Something That The Lord Made, Mos Def played Dr. Vivien Thomas. He helped solve the "blue baby" syndrome. Dr. Blalock wouldn't do a surgery without Vivien. 😊That movie is definitely in my top 5.
It's definitely a great movie the surgery is hypoplastic heart syndrome which is known as "blue baby syndrome". This is the surgery my oldest son had to have and the surgery recommended my wife and I to watch this movie
I would put Andre 3000 on that list because he's been very impressive in all of his roles. He was so funny in "Be Cool" as Daboo! And y'all mentioned 4 Brothers, and he embodied Jimmi Hendrix!
That’s right! And in _Battle In Seattle_ where he played an environmental protester. He just recently played a sculptor in a college with Michelle Williams (the actress, not the singer)called _Showing Up_

TONYYYYYYYY Thank you for talking about Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) ans hia versatility. I argue this so much like Mos Def was an actor before a rapper. He started on TV as a kid. He is excellent!!! Some of his cameos you kinda want him to become a permanent character. ❤❤❤❤❤ Love him
I would of done Idris Elba for Kenneth Dawkins' role (who was played by Dennis Haysbert) in Waiting To Exhale; he could pull off the smooth/slimeball cheater character XD
I believe 2 Guns is probably as close to comedy as I've seen for Denzel. He would probably be the straight shooter as you described - he'd play a character who isn't deliberately being funny, but the situation may have humor involved.
One of the things I always loved about Waiting to Exhale is the beautiful brown skinned/darker skinned black women. Also, we have to believe that these women are lifelong friends. Savanah =Brandy, Gloria =Nicole Byer, Bernadette =(the lady that played Nola Darling in the Netflix remake of She's Gotta Have It), and Leila ReShawn's character =Zoe Kravitz.
Also don't forget Luda was also in Law and Order SVU playing a foil to Ice Ts character, and it was a two part episode and each one Luda brought the emotion. I think just based on that he should be on the list 😊
Here is an interesting note Mos Def was acting before he even started wrapping he was on like a sitcom and 80s or early early 90s actually I’m sorry and I think he was in a movie a couple movies back. Yeah he was acting before he even started rapping.
Ludacris for me! He Nailed it in Crash! I haven’t seen the Fast and the Furious movies, but when I saw him in Crash, he was So believable. I forgot who he was.

I can't believe they didnt name DMX in this convo. 😮
Are you saying DMX had range as a actor?
At least just an honorable mention since hes done so many movies
The question was phrased "If someone told you they were a rapper, you would be shocked". DMX will always be remembered as a rapper first. Always.
Same! I guess he would be an honorable mention for me.
Lol there's absolutely no reason they should

I loved his character in ATL. He was terrifying to me.
Yea he stole the movie for me. They should do a top 10 with a character that stole the movie
Tony said, "I was moving like Gumby" 🤣
One of my FAVORITE movie quotes is from Andre 3000, in "Be Cool"
"Don't give ME no gun, then"
My husband and i use it all the time!😂

Yasiin Bey is my favorite rapper turned actor. 16 Blocks is probably my favorite film he was in.

Tupac and Heavy D were rappers turned actors that were on A Different World.
Heavy D Living Single
@ABum-nc7sb Life, BAPS... a ton of other TV shows, including Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Tupac Was Apart Of The Rap Group ‘Digital Underground’ When He Appeared On ‘A Different World’ And Heavy D Already Had “The Boys” ‘Heavy D & The Boys’. #FYI

2Pac definitely had an acting career but Heavy D only made special guest appearances. He wasn't an actor on a show/movie.
I want this Waiting to Exhale reboot JUST to see Sterling K. Brown say the line!😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, it immediately reminded me of his character in American Fiction. “I’m not flying the fcking plane, Monk.”

Yasiin Bey also starred in Top Dog Underdog with Jeffrey Wright on Broadway back in the day. He was great on stage.
Not Kev trying to put Taylor in The Body Guard.😒 We don’t have to pick Bey but that was out of order!😂
