1A Auto shows you how to repair, install, fix, change or replace an outer window sweep that is falling down, coming apart, or the adhesive is failing. This video is applicable to 1973-1987 Chevy and GMC truck and SUV models. This is a pretty easy project if you know the steps beforehand. Plan on about an hour per door. This process is generally the same on all 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86 or 87 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Series Pickup trucks, K5 Blazer and Jimmy, and Suburban. The specific parts may differ for the 73-81 vehicles but the process is generally the same.

Just did this procedure on my 1990 K5 Blazer today with the exact same parts, only difference was there were only 2 screws holding in my vent window instead of 3 as said in this video, my truck is newer so small change compared to truck in video. This video helped a ton! Thank you!!

Great video, easy to follow and direct. Question: I need to replace the driver's vent window itself in my '86 Sierra Classic, is it possible to replace just the glass and not have to take it all apart like in this video? And if I do take it apart should I expect to have to replace the weatherstrip like this video. Thanks for the help--54Mechanic

most people will have a good glass, the glass needs to come out before the vent assy of course.

This video helped a lot, thanks! The one problem I'm having now is a part you skipped: How do I get the broken glass and adhesive out of the window sash-channel (the part you remove at 6:30 in this video)? This part is killing me!

frankiejr hoover.. use the hoover to get the glass out..
a long thin flat-bladed screwdriver and hammer but don't open the groove any, if you do close it back together. the stuff that holds the glass in is a tape type stuff that wedges the glass in place kinda like tarpaper on the roof, that might work in a pinch. If you don't keep this as tight as possible if it ever ices up the glass it will come loose when you try to roll the glass down.
How do I remove the glass from a door with an electric regulator? The glass is up and door is a salvage door, I just need the glass.
how do i remove the window an track if it's not broke? window wont roll past the top of the door.
+Tim Baker The cable might have broke inside the door, and could be preventing the window from gliding upwards. You may want to see if the cable is caught on something. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
old school hammer torque driver with the proper bit works the best as it seats and applies torque to get the screws loose also use never seal on the screws when they go back in to stop rusting up again, also duck billed pliers up inside the door will straighten those slots out. you are sorta relying on your expertise rather than doing the most efficient way to do this task, it is obvious you have not done one of these in the past.
