This song is written by a man named Cornelis Vreeswijk. His family moved to Sweden from The Netherlands when he was a young kid. He is held very dear in Sweden and his songs lives on even after his death because of his lovely songs and very good lyrics.
The judges actually really liked Chris and he was actually their favorite. They gave him contructive critisism to make him better, they didn’t want him out
They were saying he needed to articulate better but ended by saying he sounded fantastic anyway. The song he was singing is by a very beloved Swedish folk singer. If you wanna hear the original, search for Cornelis Vreeswijk - somliga går med trasiga skor. The lyrics are very deep so i would recommend you look them up. Love from Sweden ♥️
He only sings a short snippet of the original song, written by Cornelis Vreeswijk. "Some people walks, in worn out / teared / broken shoes" - an allegory for poor people imo. The song has a kind of laconic devil may care attitude about living in the now, consequences be damned, but there is an underlying connotation of existential angst. Imo.
Stop stop stop! :) Please, don't jump to conclusions on what the judges are saying! :) They are saying nice things but they critizise the way he is mumbling when singing in Swedish - and that is TRUE! I hardly hear anything of the lyrics in this song. But Chris is my no 1 - I love his voice and the way he performs his songs!!!!!!!! :)
Considering it's a Cornelis Vreeswijk song, I do believe the mumbling in this is more of a nod to the Happy Duchman mixing with Chris' way of singing. Personally; I don't care if he mumbles, I love the sound this man makes.
His personality comes through a lot more when you see him live. He has a humorous presentation in between songs (in swedish though). I saw and listend to him live 2018-07-07 in Sweden and it was one of the best nights of my life. You feel his presence a lot more. It's almost like you know him as he performs for his friends (the fans and listeners). Really cozy but still joyful and make you wanna party (where it fits the song of course). He is probably the best one we have ever had. In the beginning of the Idol season 2017 there were what we thought was a soundtrack, and I thought "Wow, who is this, I've never heard it before, I need to buy this song", and then the camera switched into the Idol audition room where he was the one singing. I just gaped in shock, because he sounds like he's already on a CD or something - in other words a finished product. Then I said: "He's going to win!". And I was right. Then it was off to The Kitchen Sessions and I fell in love with his voice. Another Idol that is amazing is Jay Smith: Here's a link to one of his better versions of songs: ruclips.net/video/VRv8UNl2EC8/видео.html and one of his own: ruclips.net/video/QOCKUnwX9jc/видео.html
The song is about how unfair it is that some people are stuck in poverty, thus the broken or torn shoes. It even questions if maybe that's the way God wants it to be.
They wanted him to articulate the words more while singing cause he kinda mumbled, but that's hard for you to hear since you don't understand Swedish hahah. They also said good things about him in the beginning.
It is like you say, its RAW talent. The judges are super-professionals, trying to even further improve his talent. Its their day-job! I totally agree, its awesome, BUT IF he would have articulated the beautiful lyrics it would have been even better. Whats good can always become better, thats how progress is achieved.
I found a translation but dont know if its good but the song is so beautiful 😍😊👍 Some (as in people) walk with broken shoes, tell (me) why is it so God father witch in heaven lives Maybe wants it that way God father witch in heaven lives, closes his eyes and sleeps good. Who cares about a pare of broken shoes, when you're old and tired Who cares about how the days passes, they continue freely. (lit. wander as they want) Citizens within hundred years, you'll no longer exist Then someone else has taken you're chair, of that you know nothing You feel neither rain or sun, down in your dark grave Who cares about how the nights passes, i don't give damn. As long as I have my appearance left, hidden in my darlings hair. I am an doubtful character Who's not good for nothing. Behind a corner the devils lurking. He grabs me when he wants Some walk with broken shoes, until they have stopped walking. The Devil that lives in Hell, gets a good laugh then.
It's not really true that the judges didn't want Chris on the show. They all loved him, but of course they may have been to hard sometimes. I do remember that the two men in the jury (Anders Bagge & Alexander Kronolund) where BIG fans of him. Anders, the bold guy, he called Chris his twin. 🤷🏻♀️
The judges loved him, and he did win Swedish Idol. They just pointed out that he mumbles sometimes when he sings, which he does, and that he should try to articulate more.
After watching that entire season, I'd say only one of the judges was continually critical of Chris, and that is the dark haired woman (whose name I forgot). The judges have stated that the reason for them being so critical of Chris was that they saw his potential, wanting to push him even further, encouraging him to keep improving and not stay satisfied with where he is. Personally, I thought Chris was great in nearly all of his performances, and while I often disagreed with the judges' opinions, I must disagree that the judges were as harsh on him as it sounds in this video. While he did get criticized more than he deserved, he also received great praise from them as being one of the best, if not the best, they've ever had on the show. It was never as harsh and ill-intended as it sounds like. Also, Chris said that he always listens tentatively to the judges criticism, which explains his reaction.
I just want to explain a bit why the judges were hard on Chris. They did love him and they wanted him in the competition but they saw the real artist that he was, or is, so they felt he was in a different league and thatś why they pushed him a bit more then the other participants. Yes they did complain on him a bit as well but overall they loved him.

(Anders) Madonna, Janet Jackson, Santana, J Lo, Jessica Simpson, Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias and Nick Lachey.
He sings it almost in a way the original writer Cornelis Vreeswijk sings sometimes. Kind of just morphs words into sounds at certain points. I like that style personally, for me, it gives it more emotions and feel to it.
This is where a little controversy started. Some people thought that the some judges made up critique just because Chris was so dominant. The network would rather have had runner up Hanna Ferm as winner because she is pop and easy to sell. You should react to her (imo) best performance with the song ’Forever Young’ to see if you think she had a chance on beating Chris.
I searched for the English translation of the song and this is what i came up with :) SOME WALK IN TATTERED SHOES Some walk in tattered shoes Tell why is that so God father who in heaven lives might want it that way. God father who in heaven lives, closes his eyes and sleeps sweetly. Who cares about a pair of tattered shoes, when you're old and tired Who cares about how the days pass they wander as they please. Fellow citizen in one hundred years, you will no longer be. Then someone else has taken your chair you won't know of it you feel neither rain nor sun down in your dark grave Who cares about how the nights fly by I don't care one bit As long as I can keep my face Hidden in my darling's hair. I am a doubtful figure. Not good for much. Behind a corner death stands lurking. He takes me when he wants. Some walk with tattered shoes, until they finish walking. Alexander Kronlund: Chris it’s really good, it’s good. Towards the end i think this ”bröliga”(dont know what that is) Kläfford appears. I dont think this Takida style suits you. Everything I want is to put my head on your shoulder and listen to you sing so beautiful. Nikki Amini: I think the same as you Alex, it’s clear to see that you are stuck in this ”brölighet” (dont know what that is) and you dont have to do that, because you and the guitar is everything needed and we have heard that earlier. Sometimes is sounds like you mumble when you sing. I dont know why that happens but it is a populary presentation and it would be even better If you didnt mumble as much. Kishti Tomita: You have a point in what you say. This thing with the mumble, but the reason for that is becuase you often sing in southamerican accent and espacially who cares about a pair of broken shoes. I would like to see you more distinct in the part of the song that is about death. But overall it was fantastic. ”I am not the best at english but I think you will understand most of it” :)
To "bröla" is to make a kind of guttural sound, like a roar, like the sound of a moose or something. And "Sydstatsamerikanska" as Kishti said doesn´t mean southamerican accent, but an accent from the American South in the US, usually just called "a Southern accent" in the US.
This is a reaccuring thing on Swedish Idol. The judges seem to support younger talents who they can mold into pop artists and later write and produce songs for. Melodifestivalen material. They don’t really like true artists with integrity who goes their own way.
This is not my opinion of the judges. They were criticizing him because they saw how much potential he had. He was always their favorite actually. They just wanted him to be a certain way, I guess. They definitely saw his talent from the start. The imagine song was very early in the competition for instance and it was praised by the judges.
There you have it: " They wanted him to be in a certain way", they wanted to change him and yes they loved Imagine but why did a judge say later on that people we're crazy that voted on him? And why was this showed to the wiewers? I don't know how many times they critized him exampel for his growling but Chris kept doing it , stood his ground - thank god! Eventually they liked it-rigth? But Chris had to figth for it! Eventually one judge also said that they have to stop critizing Chris so much and stop moving him around like some furniture. The judges are probably nice people but they where far to critical towards him, no matter how good their intentions was.
Somebody walk with broken shoes until they are no longer walking. (Somliga går med trasiga skor) Original with Cornelis Vreeswijk: ruclips.net/video/wERq-o0_0e8/видео.html
he sings a great beloved Swedish artist song that everyone has grown up with and sings it in a completely wrong way he tried to pop up the song which becomes wrong when everyone has the original in their head which is fantastically well done from the beginning
What the Judges are saying is very valid though. It is a very beloved song in sweden and 90% of the adoration lies in the lyrics and poetry there in. Clear and understandable pronunciation is needed to properly convey the message of the song. Some words were missing the last part of them and a couple of times sentence building words were missing entirely and that impacts the poetic cadence and clarity of the message.
It's funny you think this song wasn't so popular because it ONLY has 200,000 views. We're only 10 million people in Sweden. That's like 2% of the Swedish population. If 2% of the U.S. population had vatched the video there would be 6,560,000 views.
I think the judges wanted him to sound more like the original singer of the song Cornelius Vreeswijk, probably one of the most influential and successful troubadours in Swedish history, since their most common complaint was that he wasn't pronouncing his word clear enough at certain times throughout the song. You should listen to the original song and maybe you'll be able to see what they where talking about. ruclips.net/video/8ibOFoIl0ao/видео.html There are lyrics in the discription of the song, sadly though they're only in Swedish so you'll have to put them through Google translate or something. There's also a great deal of info about Cornelius in there that I would recommend that you read, he was truly a national treasure.
Cornelis Vreeswijk ....some people walk in broken shoes....why is that..god father who lives in heaven ...maybe want this...god father is sleeping in heaven...who cares about this broken shoes...when you are orld and tired...

My comments you lifted is all true and even though the judges was nicer to him later on they shouldn't have done this in the first place! That's my point! "If you need to give someone criticism do it in a good way and always think about how you, yourself would feel getting it!" 👍❤
They weren´t always critical. I´d say he was more supported than anything. They just critized his mumbling. That Lena Larsson was talking pure bullshit. They never wanted him out. They just critizied some parts of his singing. But a lot of Swedes can´t handle critisism. Often I find, If I critize then I look like an angry shithead.
Ha, ha 😅😅 yes you really sound angry! You can criticise me as much as you want, that's ok. This is just my opinion that I wrote in a comment field. I don't think they treated him rigth, they were far to critical towards him. And why did one judge say that people was crazy that voted on him? And why was that showed to the wiewers? What did Chris feel when he saw that? Couldn't be fun to see. And if you want to be critical to this also it's perfectly alright! 😉
When you have a chance, would you please react to her cover of Janis Joplin's "Piece of my Heart"? She did this at a concert by rock group, The Struts, in Newcastle, UK during which they called her up to perform a couple of songs with them. It's cool, because many have compared Courtney to Janis, plus this is a live concert crowd, so interesting to see how they react to her - ruclips.net/video/Dq6XN2jS1sE/видео.html THANK YOU!!!
Proper Translation: "Some people walk in ragged shoes, pray tell why is that? God our Father who lives in Heaven might want it that way, God our Father who lives in Heaven rests peacefully asleep, Who cares about a pair of ragged shoes when one is old and tired? Who cares how the days go? They wander as they please, Citizen, in a hundred years you'll be no more, By then someone else has taken your place, but of that you won't be aware, You feel neither rain nor sun down in your murky grave, Who cares how the nights go? I don't care at all, As long as I can keep my face hidden within my lover's hair, I am a questionable character, not good for much, 'Round a corner Death stalks, he'll take me when he pleases, Some people walk in ragged shoes, until they stop walking, The Devil who lives in Hell has himself a good laugh then." Also, this isn't one of the best 30 renditions I've heard and you should look up the original and Eldkvarns rendition to see what it SHOULD sound like.

”I am not the best at english but I think you will understand most of it” :)
Good translation. Only one thing: They refer to his southern US singing style, not South American.
I feel Bjorn again with all the Swedish stuff!
Somebody walk with broken shoes until they are no longer walking. (Somliga går med trasiga skor)

You should really check out Molly Hammar, a former idol contestant that performed the song "Shortcuts" on idol this year.

Chris has actually released an album. Check it out.
He wasn't pronouncing the words properly and I agree with them. It was almost like he wasn't sure of the lyrics and tried to cover it up
That't just bullshit.
Jocke Berg i Kent! Artikulera ord hahahaha 😂
he sings a great beloved Swedish artist song that everyone has grown up with and sings it in a completely wrong way he tried to pop up the song which becomes wrong when everyone has the original in their head which is fantastically well done from the beginning
If 2% of the U.S. population had vatched the video there would be 6,560,000 views.
im swedish and i couldnt understand what he was singing
The judges of Sweidish idol are pretty critical, but it is mostly constructive critisism, so no hard feelings

There are lyrics in the discription of the song, sadly though they're only in Swedish so you'll have to put them through Google translate or something. There's also a great deal of info about Cornelius in there that I would recommend that you read, he was truly a national treasure.
Have you react to "In The silence" kitchen session. My favourite

"some people walk in worn out shoes.."
My comments you lifted is all true and even though the judges was nicer to him later on they shouldn't have done this in the first place! That's my point! "If you need to give someone criticism do it in a good way and always think about how you, yourself would feel getting it!" 👍❤

Some walk in broken shoes
By Cornelis Vreeswijk
Lyric
Some walk in broken shoes.
So what does that mean?
God the Father who lives in heaven,
maybe want it that way?
God the Father who lives in heaven,
close your eyes and sleep sweetly.
Who cares about a pair of broken shoes,
when you are old and tired?
Who cares how the days go?
They walk as they please.
Citizens, in one hundred years
there are no longer any.
Then someone has taken your chair
- you don't know.
you feel neither rain nor sun
down in your dark grave.
Who cares about how the nights go?
- I don't care a trace.
Only I have my face left,
hidden in my…

I actually think the Original is way better, that is a song you should look up, it's by one of our bigest troubadours cornelis vreeswijk

Please react to Ernie Zakri - Ku Bersuara AJL34 LIVE (from Malaysia)

Proper Translation:
"Some people walk in ragged shoes, pray tell why is that?
God our Father who lives in Heaven might want it that way,
God our Father who lives in Heaven rests peacefully asleep,
Who cares about a pair of ragged shoes when one is old and tired?
Who cares how the days go? They wander as they please,
Citizen, in a hundred years you'll be no more,
By then someone else has taken your place, but of that you won't be aware,
You feel neither rain nor sun down in your murky grave,
Who cares how the nights go? I don't care at all,
As long as I can keep my face hidden within my lover's hair,
I am a questionable character, not good for much,
'Round a corner Death stalks, he'll take me when he pleases,
Some people walk in ragged shoes, until they stop walking,
The Devil who lives in Hell has himself a good laugh then."
Also, this isn't one of the best 30 renditions I've heard and you should look up the original and Eldkvarns rendition to see what it SHOULD sound like.
Some walk with broken shoes
Versions: #1#2
Some (as in people) walk with broken shoes,
tell (me) why is it so
God father witch in heaven lives
Maybe wants it that way
God father witch in heaven lives,
closes his eyes and sleeps good.
Who cares about a pare of broken shoes,
when you're old and tired
Who cares about how the days passes,
they continue freely. (lit. wander as they want)
Citizens within hundred years,
you'll no longer exist
Then someone else has taken you're chair,
of that you know nothing
You feel neither rain or sun,
down in your dark grave
Who cares about how the nights passes,
i don't give damn.
As long as I have my appearance left,
hidden in my darlings hair.
I am an doubtful character
Who's not good for nothing.
Behind a corner the devils lurking.
He grabs me when he wants
Some walk with broken shoes,
until they have stopped walking.
The Devil that lives in Hell,
gets a good laugh then.
