    I just finally watched the Blackfish documentary, seeing how small that tank is and there appears to be 2 orcas in it I can’t believe they didn’t tear each other apart.

    I found this years ago and showed it off to a class in middle school. Crazy how people can identify themselves and others here and I'm surprised the video is still here. Crazy how sea world has changed over the years. Just randomly thought about this since I've been in a lost media rabbit hole.

    Wow! Kilroy sure is small, compared to Shamu. I don’t support this, but this was truly incredible to watch, seeing the original Shamu. She is not forgotten

    "Captured by Ted Griffin in Puget Sound in 1965, Shamu was intended to be a companion for the orca Namu in Griffin's Seattle aquarium. Shamu was however quickly leased and eventually sold to SeaWorld San Diego. He performed in several SeaWorld shows and eventually died on August 23, 1971. The name Shamu has since been used for many different orcas in SeaWorld shows."

    This tank is WAY TOO SMALL! These poor orcas should have never been taken out of the ocean to begin with.

      This was back in the late 1960- very early 1970's the orca in the footage ( orignal shamu) died in 1971. Their tanks are much much larger now

    The original Shamu was a female member of the Southern Resident Killer Whales where Namu was a male Northern Resident, two distinct populations with their own languages and traditions thus they did not get along.

      @samanthaspsychiccabin8354 5 лет назад +4

      NewMJ B.S. I went to see wild orcas last year and I saw 6 whole pods who were even completely different (resident and transient) and they had a social gathering and got along just fine

    • @snizzlefrazzy
      @snizzlefrazzy 5 лет назад +3

      KatinaLove It’s easy for them to get along in the wild. If there’s tension they can easy swim far from each other. In captivity, with such close quarters there’s no way to escape so they get aggressive with each other.

    • @samanthaspsychiccabin8354
      @samanthaspsychiccabin8354 5 лет назад +3

      Lauren Janell Um, orcas are fast, they could easily rake each other. I honestly see more rake marks on orcas in the wild than orcas in captivity most of the time.

    • @peppermintpatty3800
      @peppermintpatty3800 5 лет назад +6

      Actually its because she was aggressive and the horrible man Ted Griffin whale capturer didn't like that he control like he did Namu so that's why he sold her. It wasn't because the whales didn't get along.

      @@samanthaspsychiccabin8354 Southern Residents and Transients have never been observed interacting in the wild. That has never happened. They go out of their way to avoid one another. Residents are fish eaters, Transients are mammal-eaters. They have nothing in common, they don't even speak the same language. You're also lying about the raking part. You've obviously never seen a wild orca in your life.

    Truly pathetic to keep such a majestic mammal in such a small space. Sea World is over, just a matter of time--too many people CARE.

      The only things SeaWorld in this video bears in common with SeaWorld of today is the name.

    Very interesting and strange to come across an old family movie lost though an estate sale with yourself in it. I'm the high school kid in the green shirt caught yawning at the orca show. Yeah the paired music is what we'd refer to as "trippy." Kind of like it.

    I believe this tank is what later became the walrus enclosure. Then through the 70s and much of the 80's the orcas were in what is now the dolphin show. The late 80s brought the current enclosure. They have always strived to improve the enclosures for the animals. SeaWorld has done more for marine research and rescue than any other organization. out there.

    Now that was truly a disgustingly tiny pool, an "orca bowl". Thankfully SeaWorld has improved LIGHTYEARS in the last 4-5 decades and is nothing like this today. They now have huge facilities, know much more about the care of these animals, are much more educational and spend huge amounts of money on improving the habitats of their animals, as well as conservation, helping wild animals that don't give them anything back.
    It seems though as there is a huge amount of people who believe that this = SeaWorld of today.
