  • Dharamshala, the second-largest waste generator in Himachal Pradhesh, dumps all of its solid waste in a tiny village called Sudher. The village has been facing unscientific dumping of non-segregated waste from hotels, homes, offices and even hospitals of Dharamshala and its suburb, McLeodganj for over two decades.
Sudher’s Mahila Mandal - a group of about 50 women volunteers working on village issues - have been fighting against the dumping on the premise that it is against the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. india.mongabay.com/2020/04/la...
Troubled by unhygienic conditions and health issues, their demand to the officials is to get the dumping site cleared clear and also shift it.
Sudher’s experience also shows the larger waste management problems of Himachal Pradesh, as urban local bodies grapple with the increasing issue of waste generation, with no proper management.
