As someone who first experienced Donkey Kong Country through this port, I'm inclined to say that it isn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be. But it really can't hold a candle to the original.
@Katz Meowski I thought they did it for visibility so enemies on a tiny blurry GBA didn't have green enemies on green backround. But your alternate universe theory is probably right.
Amazing run from one of my favorite games Despite the overwhelmingly bright gba color pallet standart and the amazingly boring bass and dancing mini games, this port is awsome ^^
So Toy Story SEGA Genesis was the closest game I could think of to graphics like this on SEGA! GBA is my favorite of the 16 bit era even over SNES & SEGA Genesis in the long run.
I hate that I have this version and not the original. I have donkey kong country competition that is the original but has a time limit so I could never beat the game in a matter of 3 mins . Where could I find the original download please
So yeah, I had no idea there was a warp in Coral Capers until I happened upon it while exploring the level in my own filthy casual playthrough... Not sure if it's accessible in the SNES version with Enguarde, but it was interesting. Also, aside from the cool music, does anyone know what the purpose behind calling Funky after a world clear is? Does it count toward progression? I never paid much attention during my filthy casual playthrough.
I really dislike how the GBA DKC's force you to play all these annoying minigames to get 101/102/103% completion. Otherwise they're decent-enough ports of the original games.
What a bizarre port. It's aaaaaaalmost but not quite like the original. The stuff that was added or changed makes no sense. It doesn't add anything to the gameplay and the stuff that was removed doesn't improve the gameplay. Just weird.
Not to mention how bad the "obligatory GBA port has voice acting clips" trend in general is.It didn't work with Super Mario Advance it certainly doesn't work here...not to mention the color palette for 32 bit looks horrible compared to the 16 bit original. (And i'm not even talking about the "washed out" contrast that plagued pre-SP GBA games)
I agree with Dragondancer and Andrevus. This looks like dog shit. I realize the GBA, despite being woefully misleadingly touted by Nintendo as 32-bit, is basically an SNES in terms of performance. Even taking that qualification into consideration, this port falls miserably short. The colors are more faded than the quality of top 40 music since the 90s ended, the clarity is nonexistent, and the audio sounds like it was run through a tin can. This feels like a halfway point between the original Gameboy and the SNES.
blakfloyd The colors are probably like that to compensate for the gba's lack of a back light. But yeah, when playing it on an emulator or an SP, it really shows how bad it looks.
I am listening to this music in the background and dear lord it tries SOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to emulate the SNES score, but fails so much. >< I like how it looks though. :)
"They" as in TASVideos? Well, the GBA ports are really bad in comparision to the SNES ones. Worse graphics, worse music, stupid sound effects, longer cutscenes, less tricks for speedrunning etc. etc. Making this both very subpar game in comparision to SNES as well as this not being a very optimised TAS either.
Tompa A I know it is very bad they made, but they should make same as SNES because one game is almost same as SNES, but graphic is kinda bad and controller as well. A Link to the Past. The damage they make is white. Not colorful like SNES does. But it is really nice they add new boss against 4 Links. But can they make hack for SNES as same what GBA have? I do not know. Only we can do is wait for someone know how to make 4 Links to fight.
In my opinion there was no need to add extra content to it because it doesn’t make the game more greatee then it already was in the first place🥲 Also the ending sequence has been taking literally serious by showing every character above,on or below the ship And then comes k rool who demands everybody to get off his ship so he could move away with his ship. But how he could move with his ship if he throwed cannon balls on his ship to hurt donkeykong? That ship must be damaged by a mile because of this. Not mention everybody rolling and jumping around the ship. Oh man there was just no reason to add and change things of this game at all🥲
i like the added mini games and music to this port. also extra collectibles were a nice touch.
I always laugh when DK falls inside a bonus stage 😂
Now we know DK is a cow in a gorilla suit.
LOL!

@@romalapin8648 do you like Super Mario World gba?
@@cayetanoestrada6205 yes
Is so bright inside the caves, you dont even need lights!
the first gba model had no backlight so that has to be the reason

Am i the only one who thinks its odd that the kremlings are purple in this version instead of green?
@Katz Meowski I thought they did it for visibility so enemies on a tiny blurry GBA didn't have green enemies on green backround. But your alternate universe theory is probably right.
the two beaver bosses have their colors swapped for some reason

I guess it counts to 101%
@@likeaboss4318 It's a warp, not a bonus per se, so I don't think it counts.
Drake Featherwing hmm right, idk
The warps on the GBA versions are all in worlds 1 and 2 (all levels) and none after that. For the SNES version, it's scattered across the world.
@@Pixiuchu Actually, the warp from Trik Track Trek is still in the GBA version

The minigames are optional only for 101% completion, they're not required to progress through the game...
