I've been coaching in my pat life and seen and spoke to many known and unknown coaches. I can say with certainly that you're the only one I saw that knew what he's talking about. Mad respect 🙏
Been watching all of the slo-mo fed videos and trying to work out a pattern to copy his footwork. And you guy come up with this video!! You guys are just the best 👏
This TRULY is top tennis training and the name of the channel is really on point I really have no words to describe how useful were the videos about tennis serving and especially the one with slice serve I had the worst serve of all and opponents used to take advantage of that doing winner returns I never took into account how significant serve is But after I watched the video "serena's 88 aces in australian open" I was mesmarized by the power of the tennis serve and decided to make it better Now my serve has become challenging and I keep up the hard work to perfect it I don't care about the scorching hot weather in the middle of August I spend hours serving daily I just want to master tennis serving and I WILL
Federer's footwork is so light that is the reason why he could possible still play at top level till 45 years.. I hope. Simon, what you think of Kei Nishikori's footwork? He moves like a ninja!
I played a match against an opponent who I always struggle against two days ago. And I won the first set easily, 6-3. The key to winning was down to the footwork, mainly putting the weight on the balls of the feet. This not only gave me a natural tendency to put the weight forward, but also move very fast without losing too much energy. The second thing I did was use my feet for power on everything, including the serve. This helped me generate effortless power, I already have control as I can hit every shot in the game and I'm also a single hander on the backhand but also hit two handed if I want to. I lost the 2nd set due to my stamina diminishing, that is something I need to work on. Before the match, I taught a beginner how to hit forehands in 15 minutes, and he was comfortably rallying with me.
Happy to help David Have you watched the full part two video? The link is here - www.top-tennis-training.com/pros-revolution-access/ We cover the Federer backhand, slice and his footwork
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks for the link. Yes I did. There is a lot of good instruction online, but your explanations really are the best, Simon. You're the Fed of tennis videos 😉. Keep up the awesome work. 👏
Medvedev is tall but very thin, only weighs 83kg which is less than Federer and Nadal. Medvedev works on his speed and footwork daily, I've watched him training in London, Indian Wells and Monaco and on all occasions he's doing some sort of footwork/speed drills to start off the session and end them. He's also a great reader of the game, he seems to predict the opponents next shot. All the best Simon
Enjoyed your advice on footwork very much 👍. Keep it up💪 Would appreciate if you made any suggestions on how to develop a full forehand swing. I have been playing for a long time and developed many bad habits. One of them is my forehand "stop-swing". When I hit the forehand my racket stops in front of me causing much tension on my full arm and lack of smooth finish of the movement. Cannot get rid of it.
Yes I've always preached how good his footwork is and how many don't talk about it enough. To get a breakdown of it is really helpful and can see myself trying to implement it in my game or lessons.
Not always, he also uses the cross behind step when recovering from the deeper forehand or backhand when his outside leg is behind the inner leg, which makes the cross behind the ideal step to start the recovery
My backhand isnt that good. It is a double handed backhand. My coach is asking me to use my right hand (am a lefty) to drive through the backhand. But I am finding it hard. Not because my right hand is weak but i am not able to drive it through with my right hand. So if there is a step by step method on how to drive using your other hand , i will find it helpful. Maybe you may have uploaded a video on improving backhand. If I could get a link to that it would be fine. Anyways thanks a ton. Your videos have helped me become a better player.
Simon and Alex, you guys are the best. I recently switched to a 1-handed bh because I hurt my non-dominant wrist. When facing big topspin I find the ball always seems to be over my shoulder and my contact point is way behind where it should be, yet watching Fed and Thiem, they always seem to be able to step into their 1-handed topspin bh's at waist level while facing much bigger spin and power than I'm seeing. What do I need to do differently?
Make sure you are getting behind the ball properly using good footwork. Federer and Thiem always get behind the ball and this allows them to step in even on higher balls
Simon, very good and useful video. Thank you. Btw, if you take away Federer’s footwork, his forehand, his backhand, and his looks, you must be looking at my video.
Hey, big fan of your videos I have a question How much should I be bench pressing as a tennis player Some people have been telling me not to because if you develop too much of your pecs then it hinders your in your follow through Thanks in advance Rohit patel India
Bench pressing isn't a requirement to be a good player if that's what you're asking. Sure it's a good way to develop upper body strength and many players will do it. The issue is doing heavy weights and then not doing speed work to use the muscles in an explosive way or not stretching so you end up with shortened muscles that are stiff and tight. Federer, Djokovic and a few other players are very lean but strong too, that should be the look you're after All the best Simon
I agree with the concept, however, many players don't know which patterns to focus on or use. If I tell someone who doesn't know much about footwork patterns "bounce, bounce, bounce" they might stay lighter but still use the wrong footwork. But an advanced player who knows how to move, that concept would help them

Great analysis. Just one thing, Fed normally uses that cross behind step when he wants to retreat, he's using it to move sideways and also backwards.

I'm wondering if movement on clay is slightly different, or is it you just have to be more careful of not slipping?
What about vertical movement? (Up to short balls, volleys, and overheads)

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks a lot
Great video, but for me it seems that he is crossing behind, when he is moving back to get a better defence position way behind the baseline.
It all depends on how he finishes a stroke, which leg is in front
How does federer train his footwork?
Footwork drills 👍
Think bounce bounce bounce, keep moving until the point is done.
