Yeah, it's common in Icelandic that people have a side job on top of their actual job. A swim instructor is a professional song man A teacher has been in Eurovision for Iceland The list is endless.
Many countries should do it and it should be compulsory: if you're a high ranking civil servant, get down there and do some real work for a change. It would keep them from talking about things they know nothing about.
The same for all small nations, the thing is that small population does not allow you to live just from income from singing/playing sports/art etc., even if you're rather good. Of course there will be exceptions of people who get bigger internationally, but for more of a 2nd rate stars there is no chance in a small country to survive from income of so-called creative work or sports, so you have to do side jobs. Same in bigger countries, but there are much more people who CAN live from that income. Maybe as 1969Kismet says it is good, as in Iceland I suppose it is nearly impossible to feed yourself by spreading BS and being an ''expert'' in a suit without a day's experience in real world doing anything. In bigger countries those still can find audience big enough for Patreon sponsorship or even all kinds of TV gigs etc., in Iceland just the population is too small for that.
This was funny, how the audience got that wrong the first time is just so hilarious. I think there was another time where they got it wrong as well and Dara said "STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP! You're just clapping, that's not the same thing."
I thought Thunderclap was a Dungeons and Dragons spell that deals 2D8 thunder damage and make the owlbear rip your head off because it just awoken from its hibernation.
Don't judge me (or if you prefer to do so, please do it in a civilised manner) - but "thunderclap" does sound like a VD which is such a fucking badass disease that I'm glad they didn't teach us about in nurse school. :-)
2:18 "It (HU!) literally means nothing." That may be true in a literal sense - on the other hand, could that have a similar meaning in Icelandic as the Dutch "hup" as in "Hup, Holland! Hup!" (which translates to: "Go, Holland! Go!" in English)?
"It literally means nothing"? oh...ReaLLY? WELL....HUNDREDS YEARS BACK.....if you hear that sounds....it literally means Death is coming and you are the 'little piggies'. Never make a joke with that chant, mate. (Much love and respect from India)

The question is, though, is the Icelandic soccer coach’s main job that or his job as a dentist?
@@ilovemuslimfood666
It's coach, apparently, since he coaches the Qatar team, now.
which singer is that?
In the audiences defense nobody told them they were going to join in.

Or you mistakenly cast it in a Silence zone and just look like a gesturing twat.

Make the stomping and the “HU” part of the verbal and somatic components.
@Lt. Bran Wulfram the stomping might be hard to do standing up but I'll take the clapping part as my somatic component. HU! 👏
I thought it was an ACDC song😂
Ari is the best
The idea was pinched from the Iceland soccer team, which pinched it from a Scottish soccer side.

No, “hú” literally means nothing haha, speaking from an icelander.

That's fine with me, too. :-)
I'm pretty sure it's just a sound
that's like asking the santa claus the meaning of his ho-ho sound
in the pc games i have played over the years a thunderclap is probably an AOE skill where shockwaves stun opponents for a short time?
But what happened when the French adopted it?
greetings from Mexico !!

LOL. Except the clap was stolen from Scottish football fans. And isn't some ancient viking thing at all.

Why does ari sounds a bit from uk
🤣🤣🤣
Chant copied from Motherwell fc in Scotland
Oh James, and your tiresome anti-British sentiment. They basically stole the clap from a Queen song.
Nei.
Aflífun fyrir þig
ok
No they didnt! It is inspired from polish football chants.
Oh Phil, you are amazing at just make things up
Oh Phil, imagine believing the British invented clapping…..
