Feels like both yes and no for ChatGPT moment--it's been a remarkable step forward, but there's also still significant refinement and functionality left to add before it seems ready for training wheels to fully come off and allowing it to be level 3 situationally where Tesla is willing to shoulder legal liability for saying drivers no longer need to pay attention.
Also, the real ChatGPT moment in terms of the stock is when another automaker signs a deal to get FSD--like the NACS adoption was a catalyst, the real FSD catalyst seems like industry adoption.

To be fair. ChatGPT is very unrefined as well. Anyway. Tesla is aiming for real FSD. The silly autonomous levels doesn't matter as much then. Either you have FSD or you don't.
"Also, the real ChatGPT moment in terms of the stock is when another automaker signs a deal to get FSD--like the NACS adoption was a catalyst, the real FSD catalyst seems like industry adoption."

This seems like a much bigger deal that no one is talking about. 5000 beta testers over the last 5 years but now all cars sold over the last few years have access and maybe 80% will try it and 50% might do a few hundred miles. They could double their FSD data in a month. That could make the FSD so massively superior that it’s untouchable.

I've had it since 2018, before FSD, and got all upgrades. Had it save my life twice, and in 2019 it tried to kill me twice. XD One of the attempted murders was deciding that open water was drive-able road, and decided to do a u turn by heading off the bridge into the water, and onto the bridge heading back the other way. It attempted to yank me right off the bridge. Luckily they patched that one that very day. haha. The other attempted murder was trying to run into the center pillar during a lane split. Both of those were early on. Later, it saved me from scenarios that I could not have predicted or see. I had a vehicle come across freeway from oncoming traffic side, at full speed. I never saw it until too late, but my Tesla braked so early that I thought there was something wrong with autopilot. The oncoming vehicle missed my front bumper by inches. If autopilot hadn't braked, it would have hit drivers side at full speed oncoming, at an angle to take it right into my driver side door. The other time it saved my life... well, I'm embarrassed to say, after 20 years of driving and never falling asleep at the wheel, it finally happened. I worked 16 hours and drove home 1 hour away, while already exhausted. Thought I would be fine. Autopilot woke me up and I pulled over to the side of the road and got some air. I was asleep for a good minute or two so I am sure I would have went off the roadway. BTW autopilot does not make me sleepy, in fact the opposite. I find it easier to stay awake with autopilot on because driving is so much less exhausting.

I’ve had FSD since 9/2019. Tesla emailed me to upgrade my model 3 but I’m not ready even with their offer to transfer FSD. It would be good if Tesla at least would offer FSD with a discount to existing owners. It appears clear that I may never be able to upgrade with the expectation FSD will become excessively expensive. Being vision impaired and colorblind (I am legal to drive) FSD has made it possible to drive at night. I am hoping my Tesla will out last me because FSD helps me tremendously.

Tesla should make FSD available on all vehicles and bill monthly at $0.10 per FSD mile driven. This eliminates the formidable one time purchase barrier, the high dollar monthly subscription barrier, the FSD vehicle transfer issue, and the plain Autopilot on city streets safety criticism. It brings FSD into the mainstream Tesla experience, drivers choosing to use FSD little, pay little, and drivers who use it a lot, pay more. Deployment for ALL drivers is a more attractive licensing model to other automakers. The per mile rate can be tweaked to balance fleet FSD use, capability, and revenue.

This will deter many ppl. Yes, I know the freeway exiting is a different stack but it is still the version that's being pushed out rt now.
It may have taken 2 or 3 steps forward with 12.x, but it did take a clear step back.

Even the ACC and "lane-lock" will shut off on my HW4 MY due to the cameras being unable to figure out what anything is, due to the water, oil, dirt, etc. build-up on the lenses.

Good video. A lot of good information. (Might be fun to dig up some of your old videos and see what you got right and what needed some adjustment.) Your understanding of FSD is good. Sometimes the people I demonstrate FSD to, say they don't like it, don't want it, or 'it makes me feel nauseous.' Later driving these same people around in my Model Y FSD, even with interventions and making snarky comments to Tesla, they no longer have any problem at all. Windshield wipers, headlights and no horse up front were probably once the same way.
Manufacturing robots is a great point. The cost of manufacturing comes down to complexity, energy used, human labor. I'd been wondering, 'Well, how's Tesla going to catch up with Boston Dynamics?' FSD, Dojo and Tesla's incredible depth of engineering and manufacturing, CEO sleeping on the factory floor. My prediction for the biggest Musk complaint in 2032? "Sure, robots are building the base, but when is SpaceX going to put humans on Mars like they promised?'

Yes I own a Tesla, yes I am looking forward to using it. No, I seriously doubt they will have a slew of accidents. I am guessing that they will have hundreds of "fake" accidents where people lie and say FSD was turned on.

I feel like Tesla/Elon pushing FSD this hard this early is going to backfire hard. The general public is already skeptical of FSD's capabilities and they will be judging it to the standard of a hands-off/zero-intervention system, which won't bode well for FSD as it is not flawless nearly as often as it needs to be in order to withstand this level of scrutiny. Not to mention that the average consumer (as opposed to an early adopter) is basically an expert in the art of unintentionally misusing the software products that they purchase. And when FSD gets misused, FSD takes all the blame both in the eyes of the public and in the eyes of NHTSA.

    • @davidbeppler3032

@davidbeppler3032 He said that Tesla is putting FSD on all FSD-capable cars for a month and is also requiring FSD demos be mandatory for all new deliveries and service completions. I don't know what to tell you pal, it's pretty reasonable to characterize those choices as a "hard push" for FSD exposure.
