idc what anybody says if you are a true dead head guaranteed u got respect for these guys I never even listen to them I can close my eyes n feel the dead for sure that's what about the music if u are confused listen to the music play 🎶🍄
Lets see went to my first show in 78-79. After that went to so many shows more than likely before you were born and was back stage three times, have played their music and studied it, From the days of the jug band to 95. I like DSO. I think they are great. abut again, THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE A GRATEFUL DEAD SHOW.
+Augest West - I said it was better than a lot of renditions...because this song has literally been played over 100 times by the dead...that doesnt mean all, it doesnt mean most, it does not mean a majority or even a small minority - it means a lot - which i admit is a very slippery word...we should say many. It could mean five. I saw my first dead show in 77 when i was five - at great american music hall. I dont just listen to the dead or play their music...i listen to all types of music and this rendition of help/slipknot/ft is better than many dead versions i have heard...that means like maybe 5...and i am talking about a song not a show...there is nothing like a dead show...and DSO is nothing like a dead show...its minor leagues...but i was impressed by the tightness of the band which is what happens when you tour for a long time and dont use drugs every day.
Gives me tingles .Whoever is posting these DSO vids......THANK YOU !!!!!!!! I'm tellin ya brothers & sisters.....watching this video,I looked down at dudesright hand to make sure there wasn't a finger misising !!
Dark Star Orchestra performing "Help On The Way / Slipknot! / Franklin's Tower" from the Grateful Dead's 9/6/83 show at Red Rocks. ----- - Live @ The Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO. Recorded 6-28-12
If you think dark thief orchestra compares to the worst dead show ever you couldn’t here a note if someone shoved it up your ass which is obviously where your musical “taste “is
Not everyone was fortunate enough to have seen the Grateful Dead when Jerry, Pig, Keith or Brent (or whoever made the band great for them) was alive. DSO has the energy and keeps the music alive. Haters can just merrily fuck off. I have seen these guys a number of times, as well as Rat Dog, Furthur, Dead and Co., Mickey Hart Band, Trichromes, Phil and Friends, Robert Hunter and various local cover bands. I go for the tribe, vibe and the music.
I was born in 1990. All my uncles were heads and I jumped on the bus when I started playing guitar at 12. Saw the dead in 04’ first show then first ratdog in 05’ same year first DSO show. I can’t agree with your comment any more. I completely agree. I personally play in a new dead cover band and we all cherish the music sooo very much and people do hate on cover bands but that’s ok bc at the end of the day if I can even in the smallest way help someone experience that amazing moment where the music grabbed hold of me and awoken me to the taste of such beautifully orchestrated pieces of music that completely changed my life and outlook on music that makes it alll worth it just by continuing the love of the music. I wasn’t fortunate enough to experience jerry but if it wasn’t for rat dog dso further etc I would have never had the opportunity to get a glimpse of the Magic the band has brought to sooo many of us and for that I am forever grateful 🫶🏻 🎶 💀 🌹 NFA
I don't know what i enjoy more, the music, or the fact that everyone is dancing and no none tries to film with his phone. Sadly I'm part of a generation of phone addicts.
I saw this band for the first time ever a couple of years ago. It was a really great show and it was twenty bucks. No frills really. Tomorrow night, they're back, and this time they are 35 bucks. But now that I see the stage and hear them killing this Help->Slip, i'm thinking they must have jumped up an entire, 15 dollar level. I remember when phish did that.... anyway, Should be a hot show!
I don't mean to sound like a heretic - lol - but I truly enjoyed this version as much as versions I have heard from Jerry, Bob, Phil, Micky, Bill, Brent/Bruce/Vince A True joy to hear. SHINE ON DSO!!!!
great audio and video. thanks man ! next best thing to being there. a 13 minute FT ! Thank the Lord we have both Furthur and DSO to help us as we travel the many roads to ease our souls.
@Bernie Miller: tribute bands doing some fine work since these guys . Almost Dead, D&Co, Grateful Shred, Grateful Affect. Billy Strings w/Weir, again w/Kreutzman and Tom Hamilton (Billie and the Kids). Btw,, listening to this singer doing Help on the Way and Franklin' Tower doesn't c seem to know all the notes. Made me wonder if they didn't have anyone better in the band.
Saw these guys in Montclair,NJ a few years back and I thought they did a good job with the Dead’s music. If I’m not mistaken members of the Dead have worked with them on stage.

Hell Yeah as close as it gets all the others fade away at a DSO show!
I saw Help/Slip/Frank performed countless times in the 70's & 80's, this is an outstanding rendition!
I've seen Help/Slip/Frank performed many many times since it's inception, this is an outstanding performance...
Dude you came back three years later to make the same comment. That’s some “deadication.

I was at the '83 Red Rocks show, best Slipknot I heard live, but DSO is now, maybe thats why you like this better, and DSO is really, really good.

I've always wondered how Slip > Tower smoothly, just keep those high hats up. Killer performance.
most excellent
Your stuff of this show (only cause I don't know if I've watched other stuff of yours) is great, the video is done well, and the audio is great.
Killer stuff! 💯🙊🙉🙈
I was in Boone NC and saw these guys at a small club in 2002? or maybe 2001? Its foggy..was anyone there?
wish someone remixed this so jerry is louder and bob is way back in the mix like it should be.
China Rider you’re on some good drugs I see.
Saw these guys in Montclair,NJ a few years back and I thought they did a good job with the Dead’s music. If I’m not mistaken members of the Dead have worked with them on stage.

kyle ciarrocchi " I met her at the Living Earth show " - Ween
This is interesting. I don't like the Grateful Dead at all, but I really like DSO. Explain that.
You don't really know the Dead. You have been told things about them that aren't true, most likely. Sounds just like a lot of shows I've been to.
at 10:57, #THISNESS
Nostalgia is a helluva drug..... LOL I bet some of the kids in this crowd are thinkin they just saw the Grateful Dead here spring of 1977.
No Lisa the twirling dodo bird ?
Makes sense. I will never be Bob Weir either. No will you.
agreed. no phake donna necessary ever.
What needs explaining is how you cannot like the GD at all.
You will never be Bob Weir.
eaton is better than bob today
killier
Audio sounds great coming from my laptop.
Sleeping
Hi I’m going to call you today
Great band, vocals the weak link.
+Yeti Van Marshall ..........just like the Dead :)
Cover/tribute bands can never get the vocals right. Jerry/bob have that touch
