Omg, less then five minutes in and I relate so hard. I have very big red curly hair, and people tend to only compliment my hair. It hurts a lot. But I try to ignore my own negativity

I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but i think you were pretty with your big hair. However, now i think you are beautiful (without sounding cliche since we tend to throw that word so loosely nowadays). I can't explain it but there's something radiant about you now, like we can really see you. To be honest, I didn't watch your videos before you cut your hair (i did follow insta which is how i know you),but now i look forward to your videos postcut. Keep up the good work and inspiring content.

Love this! Recently I had to cut off my hair because of damage and I felt so upset. It wasn't until after the cut when I realized I put so much value and self-worth in my hair. If I had a bad hair day I'd have a bad day. When I first cut it I felt depressed and lost, it has only been until recently where I've grown to love it and seeing you cut your hair has inspired me too since it was around the same time. Now I value health over length. I'm so proud of you and your journey and send you good vibes! Thank you for your honest and openess! You truly are a light!

I love this video. I always had long hair. Was known for my long hair since a child. When I first went natural I transitioned. After transitioning I grew my hair back to waist almost bottom length. Recently I began to get frustrated and the thought of cutting my hair just kept coming to me in meditation. And I just brushed the idea aside. I discussed it w hubby who has always supported me along my journey. He honestly would always say even when I was transitioning “I bet if you cut it you would feel so free.” I mean having long hair does take a lot of time and energy. I did also hold a lot of my beauty standard in my hair. Idk if it has been what has happened in the world this 2020 or what but this idea of feeling more free just kept coming to me. So I cut a few inches off but I was still frustrated and couldn’t concentrate. The next day...I finally big chopped. It’s one of the most beautiful experiences for me. To finally see myself. 🙏🏽 peace to you sis.

Let me tell you something sis. Your beauty shines from the inside out. Your light is so bright and you are so inspiring. Your honesty is what these young woman need. My daughter looks up to you and so do I. This world puts women in boxes but you broke the stereotypes placed on you by society and showed them what real beauty is. Thank you Nia for being courageous enough to be yourself. Not only are you beautiful on the outside but you posses beauty far beyond that. A understanding of self esteem and self love at such a young age. You are simply awesome. And yes your hair is beautiful but it does not define you love you define you. Much love to you shine bright forever❤️❤️

I cut my hair in January of this year too for similar reasons. I kept it off social media for two months. It truly is life changing. It felt like a burden was lifted off my shoulders. I experienced SOOO much loss in my life, most times out of my control, so I cut my hair to *reclaim* my time in a sense. I wanted to experience it grow (because I’ve always had big hair from childhood), and watch the journey & really get to enjoy the beauty of the different stages. I‘m learning to love myself and my big forehead that I can’t hide anymore under my big hair! 😂 love your story Nia - we’re the same age & you speak like you’ve lived 5 lifetimes! Love you so much girl 💗 thanks for sharing! 💖

I always hated my hair... felt it made me ugly... so I used to flat iron it, and then everyone said I was beautiful... now i did the big chop and am embracing my curls... so far I don't get that many compliments, but that's ok, I love them and that's all that matters. I want to start a RUclips channel, but here in the US there is definitly a dislike in the natural hair community for those of us that are white.... so I'm a little intimidated, as although I am white my hair grows out of my head into an afro... I'm afraid I will be attacked... any advice?

I love this so much. I use to have long curly hair and people use to comment how beautiful it was and only talk to me about my hair. My hair became a burden with me trying to make it look good everyday and feeling like poop when it didn’t. I hated every bit of it. So I shaved it all off. It’s been 3months now. I no longer look for validation on my appearance from other people. It comes from myself. Girl watching this made me so happy. I loved every part and can’t wait to see you smash all your goals and over some any obstacles you may face ❤️❤️❤️ God bless you xx

It was so nice of you to make this video. I was pretty excited to see you had cut your hair cause right before I saw your new short do videos I had cut mine too. I had damaged mine from bleaching it blonde and it was so dry and I had to use so much product just to keep it semi- hydrated. When I saw you cut yours I was like, omg! I wasn't the only one who was tired of my hair! Now you can use just a dollop of product instead of a gallon! You go girl!

Firstly, thanks so much for opening up in this way. I used to come across your IG posts, videos, etc. but never really felt connected to you because I felt there was a bit of a facade about everything I saw coming from you (no judgement!) this was just the way I received the messages you were sending. Today, for the first time I see you, I hear you, I understand you. I want to wish you all the best on your journey. As a gemini myself, finding balance is one of my biggest struggles, I can only imagine how enlarged any struggle is when you are a person in the public eye. Remember though, you are a GEM, you ARE the light, and you are NOT your hair. You are an individual, with feelings, with emotions, with creative energy, and a full spirit. Good luck to you, and blessed love on your journey ;)

🤩 BEAUTIFUL story, Nia 💫 you are beautiful to me with & without your hair! A major key I loved that you said was “cutting your hair won’t make you not be depressed” ✨🔑✨ That is SO TRUE with anything in this life, drastic changes don’t necessarily make all of our problems go away, we still have to deal with the insides, but I’m so happy for you that it was & has been a beautiful fresh start & a positive new journey! Happiness is a journey more so than a final destination. Enjoy the ride! & thank you sooo much for sharing! This video blessed me 🤗✨

Beautiful...so proud and happy that you went on this journey at this age. I believe there are lessons that each us experience throughout our lives and this was one for you. There will be many more, but I can feel you are ready for those lessons, they will only help you grow into the person you are meant to be and help you find out your purpose in this thing called life. You are shining bright, keep that light going. And opening up about your depression will only help another going through it. So many ppl especially in the black community won't talk about it due to a stigma placed on it. But your opening up ppl will say ok, she is talking about it, maybe I need to put a face on mine.

Thank you for this. Young people NEED to hear from people of their own age about the dark side of social media, and how toxic and destructive it can be. I would tell you that you're still beautiful without your big blonde afro, because you are, but I think it would be more useful to you to know that ultimately, your value as a person doesn't depend of your appearance. It's good to remind ourselves of that every so often.

So many people get sucked into this social media lifestyle and trends, etc .. that they lose themselves and their authenticity. What will really help you is God and accepting him into your life. He only can help you understand your true purpose in this world. I mean your fave's not going to help you out of depression.
Nia's story is one of the reasons why people should separate the two worlds (other people's lifestyle and your reality) and not intertwine them.

Wow. So interesting that this video popped up on my feed when I had just scheduled a blog post for my blog featuring @NiatheLight. The universe works in mysterious ways. I've always wanted to work with Nia, and now, watching this video, I understand why that hasn't happened yet because we had some communication back and forth from October last year and then things went quiet and I always wondered what had happened. So all of this had been going on even then!? I get it now.

I can see your face more clearly, this is a very savvy descision for someone quite young to step away from a career of creating instagram artifice

You’re beautiful regardless of what your hair looks like 😍. I experience something similar with my hair, I feel Iike only get compliments when my hair is out and curly. Never when it’s in a high bun. Thinking about big chop at your current hair length, it’s a great health length.
