Yeah the free range chicken parody they put him in was legit good all around, and he was great in it. Also: I can't believe I'm writing this, but watching the full episode in the pinned comment - his performances were actually pretty good. A lot better than what he's generally known for. Having written that: Segal bombed pretty badly in the Farley sketch, but held his own in terms if laughs elsewhere, like the one where he plays Andrew Dice Clay (and does a decent enough impression).
Both Segal and Bolton feel like easy targets as cliches of their era, who were both ironically on top of the whole fame game then, in a way. Can't believe I'm coming to Stephen Segal's defense, but I feel like people are just ragging on him as host and really over-exaggerating how bad the episode was, vs. the reality, just to kind of ride that wave.

Great one clangers!!!!! These just get better and better.
In terms of horrendous SNL hosts, I think Martin Lawrence might still be king:
"Martin Lawrence was banned from the show after his opening monologue on the February 19, 1994 episode included comments about female genitalia.
Note: The monologue has been edited out in both the network repeats and syndicated version, with just a graphic describing in general what Lawrence had said. The graphic also told viewers that it was a lively monologue and it almost cost many SNL employees their jobs.
While not a reason for the ban, another factor that harmed Lawrence was a Stuart Smalley sketch where he told the title character "Shut up you ass pirate". That line had not been in the script; it was ad-libbed, which Lorne is famously not a fan of.
Unlike most other banned performers, one of the conditions of Lawrence's ban was that no one on the show-guest host or cast member-was even allowed to mention him by name, although it is unknown how well this is enforced, as he has been mentioned at least once since."

I met Steven Segal, he was at an Earth Day event at the Capitol, why? Lol idk why, im not sure what he has to do with recycling or....anything. I had to use the bathroom and I saw him standing around looking awkward. He was really tall and he was wearing all black. He wasn't talking to anyone and so I walked up to him and told him that I loved Under Seige. He looked at me like I was crazy, I was a freckle faced 9 year old girl, so maybe that's why lol but eventually he just said "uh thanks," lol

IMAGINE if he was so self aware of how he was perceived that he kept introducing useless talents, like the kung fu fighting guitar solo read monologue, and just kept doing that shit, like a magic trick that he just gets mad at...or every skit he just gets mad at them, and breaks character and starts talking to the actors directly in skits...like making it so Meta with steve Seagal might be the most amazing thing ever.
