You were on the right track with using that steel scrubber thing to stop the mice but that’s won’t be enough. When I was growing up, our house backed up to a corn field. Every fall when the farmer harvested the corn with his combine, thousands of mice would scurry from the fields across our backyard and into the neighborhood. During the first few years, some of them would get into our house. Even though it was a new house that was, we thought, totally sealed, a few always made it inside. Mice can squeeze through holes or cracks that are as small as 1/4 inch, or the width of a pencil. They can also fit through holes the size of a dime or nickel. An air conditioner repairman told my dad to stuff steel wool into every gap around every pipe or cable into the house and then seal everything with caulk. Nice new "farm". If you never had animals before, it does take awhile to settle into the routine of them and you. The daily watering, feeding and letting out is mundane, but very important. Chickens 6 - 12 (Rhode Island Reds) will produce 1,200 to 2,000 eggs annually (200 per bird). Eating 2 to 4 eggs per day per person, gives you almost 100% of your protein. In your environment, you will need a coop, a hen house and a covered area protected from predators (hawks, coyotes, and what not). After 3 years, Rhode Islands are okay meat birds as well. Note: adult chickens are hella expensive, and you are never sure of when they started laying their first eggs, so best to purchase chicks in late winter early spring and raise them up. It takes approximately 6 months before your first egg. But it is a good growing experience and they are fun to watch!

Smart move young Ethan. Land, property always a good investment. I like seeing Austin about,it makes me feel that someone has an eye on you,to keep you safe.❤
Desert land in the middle of nowhere... good investment? If you need some place to park money then I suppose but there will be little if any return on investment. Now as a place to live, if you like the desert then go for it.
It's not always a good investment.. 😕 it depends on what can be done with it. In the long run it's a stable place to put yourself, but the money into development won't come out of it.
@@apokalypthoapokalypsys9573 I laughed when, in one of his videos, Ethan was sleeping in the back of his truck/van/camper, but his clothes were in the cab. I have a farm in Australia, NSW. Always start with planting the fruit & nut trees you would like to have because they’ll take up to five years to start producing. Before you buy any trees check that they’ll survive the weather/climate you are in. Grow organic for strong trees - use rock dust to dig into your soil because your soil looks deficient. Add organic matter- get a composting toilet so you can enrich the soil around trees - don’t use on vegi patch, obviously. Looking forward to your progress 🤠👍🏼
There's a product called "tangle foot". Smear it on the polls to the camper. It will deter all insects and maybe the mice. For the mice, drill 1" holes around the bottom of the sides of a 5 gal pail with lid. Put blocks of rodent bait in the pail. The mice will get in but your dog wont. Set a few pails around the property. No more mice.
Ethan... solarize it!! And when you get your second container, park it parallel and about 10 feet away from the first . Then connect the two containers with a nice angle roof and Voila you have a great house.. Just suggesting...😊
Ethan, I am so super excited for you to have your own place now! I'm so proud you have accomplished so much at such a young age. I wish you all the best and will always be looking forward to seeing you in your next video! ❤❤❤

Congrats on your farm. I recommend a brush grubbing chain. They cinch the load like the strap with teeth that bite into what you are pulling. There are modification kits for container conversions. I have never used them, but they seem cool. Maybe you can do a joint video with Atlas. Saving you some money while building your subscriber base. Good luck.
See, I think I bright pink shipping container would actually look kinda cool... perhaps you could paint jungle foliage on the sides, or something...Oh, and solar panels on the top will keep it cool inside, and give you power for the camper.

They made them into habitable spaces to live , work, etc. I am sure by the time you finish your project of a liveable home it will be beautiful. Love ya Ethan. Your loyal fan Gene❤
I live in a shipping container. I purchased a non operational refrigerated container for storage at my property when I sold my house. But ended up living in it when I decided my travel trailer wasn’t suitable for the winter here in North Central Washington state. This is temporary until I get my permanent shipping container home finished.
@@ethantravels- Think plural, and take a hint, feed them very little unless you make one a house cat. You WANT them hungry so they are motivated to hunt mice!

Ethan- Look into farm subsidies! My uncle had a government guy stop by and asked him if he farmed and sold produce, he said yes because he did sell something once. The government paid him for decades to “not farm” a portion of his 60 acres as part of their farmer support program or whatever they call it. He said ‘the government paid for his “farm” several times over!’ LOL! Just a thought!
@@RB2013-jj7kq - This was years ago and I believe (?) that they were afraid of farmers going out of business if a bunch of small family farms flooded the market with any single product. I think corn was the issue and they called them subsidies, sorry it’s been years. But essentially it was a type of price control that changed every few years.
If you’re doing some sort of farming or animals, you can get an agricultural property tax rate. Are you in Colorado? My brother has 40 acres. Hannah‘s wife got goats so they could have agriculture status. The first year they got a check for $3.20 for shearing the goats fur. They left the goat business when somebody came and put a flyer on their mailbox wanting to buy Pondosa pine trees. The first year with the trees, they made $7700. It works perfect, they thin the trees out and fill the holes in. Then they put seedlings in the holes.

My bad. I hadn't subscribed. Now I have. I watch your videos because at your age, you're an inspiration for others, who might think they can't do such a thing like you're doing. Keep it up, we'll keep watching.
Congrats on the transition from van life to homesteading. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you make the most of your land. Be patient as land reclamation is not easy.
You need expanding foam if you want to seal gaps and keep mice and spiders out of your van. Those gaps fillers you used will not stop mice they can squeeze through a tap almost! Something else to consider is standing your van legs in metal bowls and keep them topped up with something nasty to keep ants and spiders out - diesel maybe!
I thought that you were going to announce that you and Austin are going to get married. That’s cool that you bought a farm. Congratulations and best of luck.
That they could live stream, haveca gift registry, and charge at least $1000 a person per person attending. Looks like they are settling down. I'd love to see a picture of them imitating the American Gothic painting.
I'd be inclined to call your place a mini-ranch. No crops here....just brushland. But it's yours and that's all that matters. Good luck and good fortune.
First thing you need is a well and electric power to run it. If you are too far from the grid to get power, you need some solar and a solar power-able submersible pump. At some point you will need a septic tank and drain field where you build a house of some kind. Forget about using a shipping container as a house; nothing but trouble and expenses and building code problems. (See Tyler and Todd's videos for example) Either get a mobile, or find a kit house that you and Austin can help finish, and resell some day at a profit if you need to move on. Maybe a "tiny house" if this is just an escape/vacation location. Looks too dry there to actually "farm", but you would need a reliable well for even a home vegetable garden, which you might have time for once you have a stabile residence to live in. Good luck to you and Austin.
Great videos. I admire your tenacity. Keep in mind that mice can get through a hole the size of a dime and rats can get through a hole the size of a quarter. So you may need to add more scrubber pads around the metal plate.
The mouse problem , something which works is dabs of liquid peppermint on those cosmetic cotton balls just place them in the corners or wherever will keep the mice from coming in, honestly it really does work... I know it sounds lame but they cannot stand the scent of peppermint. Also in your list of animals include at least one cat.....
Congratulations, Ethan on your new endeavor. Try peppermint oil for the mice problem. I was waiting for a bunch of mice and spiders to come pouring out of the shipping container when you opened it. Can’t wait to be here when you million.

Note: adult chickens are hella expensive, and you are never sure of when they started laying their first eggs, so best to purchase chicks in late winter early spring and raise them up. It takes approximately 6 months before your first egg. But it is a good growing experience and they are fun to watch!
But you cant be gone for long. Cant imagine that they wouldn't want to keep traveling.
Hi guys, I would've loved doing what you are 40yrs ago. Congrats guys.... paint your water containers black, I was told it stops algae in the water, my nephew worked in the dessert he talked about the water containers.... good luck guys looking forward to watching your outcomes....
You’ve so much potential on your new property. Sky is the limit! Be careful to snakes 🐍 though.
I’m new to your vlogs. I like your vlogs so far.
Thanks
Alan & Danny
Ottawa, Canada.
Congratulations !! Thrilled that you purchased a farm ( and land ) !! All the very best :)
Now as a place to live, if you like the desert then go for it.
land isn't always a good investment, especially if you overpaid
It's not always a good investment.. 😕 it depends on what can be done with it. In the long run it's a stable place to put yourself, but the money into development won't come out of it.
Damn so much respect for your courage at such a young age being independent. Just love your videos.
Well he does have a handy older bf. That helps.
A new start and years of content as well. Great work and i look forward to seeing your next adventures
To be honest I wouldn’t care if you stopped the traveling videos. I watch your videos because you are such an amazing person.
Yeah, am really more interested in Ethan's/Austin's property rather than videos on rivers, mountains, etc.
I watch them cause he's pretty lol
No, you don't. You watch it because of the fanservice. Everyone does. Without shirtless scenes this channel would have double digit subscribers.
That’s the sweetest
@@apokalypthoapokalypsys9573 I laughed when, in one of his videos, Ethan was sleeping in the back of his truck/van/camper, but his clothes were in the cab. He was so shy about going outside in a "busy" parking lot without a shirt on, but was nevertheless perfectly fine broadcasting his cute bod to 100K+ subs. LOL. He *is* attractive, that's for sure.
Wow...now THIS was a left turn! You bought a farm!! Sheesh! What's next??? Wait...never mind! This is so cool and wonderful, and opens up a whole new world of content! So much fun watching you do battle with the mice. I hope they lose! Much love to you, Austin and Peaches! 💖💖💖💖💖
I know, huh...meh
I think this is Austin doing.
I'm a brand new viewer but love everything about this! Good luck king
Ethan, looks so Fun. Explore, Explore, Explore while your Young and Can Enjoy what life has to offer. I think I’m going to enjoy watching you.
Looking forward to your progress 🤠👍🏼
plant mint to keep spiders' away.
This is getting wilder, a farm , especially excellent
There's a product called "tangle foot". Smear it on the polls to the camper. It will deter all insects and maybe the mice. For the mice, drill 1" holes around the bottom of the sides of a 5 gal pail with lid. Put blocks of rodent bait in the pail. The mice will get in but your dog wont. Set a few pails around the property. No more mice.
Ethan... solarize it!! And when you get your second container, park it parallel and about 10 feet away from the first . Then connect the two containers with a nice angle roof and Voila you have a great house.. Just suggesting...😊
Don't be afraid of making more videos about your new farm. I for one would love to see what you do with the land and how you make it your own.
Ethan, I am so super excited for you to have your own place now! I'm so proud you have accomplished so much at such a young age. I wish you all the best and will always be looking forward to seeing you in your next video! ❤❤❤
I never know what adventurous things you are going to do next Ethan. At 22, you take on the biggest challenges, and now a farm. Plenty of work ahead that will be non-stop. Luckily, you have the greatest boyfriend ever willing to walk this thousand miles and help you. Hats off to Austin.
❤ congrats on your beautiful property and the progress on it.🎉👍🎊
Congrats on your farm. I recommend a brush grubbing chain. They cinch the load like the strap with teeth that bite into what you are pulling. There are modification kits for container conversions. I have never used them, but they seem cool. Maybe you can do a joint video with Atlas. Saving you some money while building your subscriber base. Good luck.
I totally agree. I'm a firm believer that it's better to lead a life rather than go where life leads you. Stay blessed and continue to be great.
See, I think I bright pink shipping container would actually look kinda cool... perhaps you could paint jungle foliage on the sides, or something...Oh, and solar panels on the top will keep it cool inside, and give you power for the camper.
I wouldn't mind seeing some Ethan At The Farm content. YOU are the star of this show sweetie!
i actually prefer content within america. i can watch travel shows anytime. but i watch ethan because he is a nice gay guy and is very grounded for 22.
Good luck
with all this!! It’s A LOT!!Huge undertaking!! You’re so engaging and fun to watch, but u know that. I’ll keep watching if u keep posting.
Thx for sharing u cutie!! 😁❤️🙏
Ethan I have seen some other videos where people bought storage containers and did fantastic and beautiful things with them. They made them into habitable spaces to live , work, etc. I am sure by the time you finish your project of a liveable home it will be beautiful. Love ya Ethan.
Your loyal fan Gene❤
Try peppermint oil on cotton balls to keep the mice away. It worked for me. Or get a cat. Good luck with your property! 🎉🎉
Anyone else hearing the "Green Acres" theme right about now? 😁
More like the theme to BBCs "The Good LIfe".
🤣👍🏽
@@mxslick50 PERFECT! 😂
ha ha ha I said that In my comment after I saw the video. Where is Mr. Haney? Who Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana sounds like..
From the looks of that structure on the property, my guess is that he has already met Mr. Haney.
I live in a shipping container. I purchased a non operational refrigerated container for storage at my property when I sold my house. But ended up living in it when I decided my travel trailer wasn’t suitable for the winter here in North Central Washington state. This is temporary until I get my permanent shipping container home finished.
I'm proud of you Ethan. U now own property. I love you and your channel. You're very interesting and intertaining.
I just found your channel and I’m excited to see your new property and home become a reality …..thanks for sharing ♥️🙏🏻😉👍🏻🇨🇦
Congratulations, Ethan and Austin! Farm Boys - yeeha!
Maybe your first animal should be a farm cat 🐈
Oh of course!
@@ethantravels- Think plural, and take a hint, feed them very little unless you make one a house cat. You WANT them hungry so they are motivated to hunt mice!
Get a female they are the best mouser
a couple of colony cats from a rescue.
Omg - I have like 4-6 that need homes that my elderly mumsy was feeding that need homes. If your anywhere in Colorado, free delivery! Ha
Congratulations!!! All your adventures are interesting! ❤
Congratulations, Ethan. Your videos are always exciting to watch!
You did this at the age of 22! I failed that kind of life at 44...so can I say that I admire your spirit to jump to this alternative way of life and I do hope you keep up the good work! Greetings from Belgium (Europe) and you know something? I think I am gonna subscribe to your channel!
Hmm 🤔
Can I ask you why they don't want people to farm? Just curious
@@RB2013-jj7kq To protect industry -- that's often a big part of it.
Nice one, Ethan. Yeah, I definitely did not envision you as a farmer but wow, this is awesome and cool. Excited to see each other updates. ❤ and also it was nice to see Austin for a second. He definitely seems like a kind and loving person. ❤
I gotta agree with some of the other comments. Don’t worry about Ethan Travels morphing into Ethan Farms. I follow your life’s endeavors no matter where it goes. I really like the sound of this endeavor. Austin appears to be very handy and will be great help building this life together. Fantastic.
Use steel wool to seal up any crevasses where mice might be coming in. They will not try to chew through it. Cute set up , btw! Good Luck
I use it with that spray foam.
WOW!! Congratulations on the farm!!!!
More power to you for starting this new adventure. Hope this all works out.
Looks like he will needing to get power way out there, somehow.
You’re doing amazing work Ethan! The first storage container is a huge step to trying to establish a base to start in!💯❤️
I'd be inclined to call your place a mini-ranch. No crops here....just brushland. But it's yours and that's all that matters. Good luck and good fortune.
Yeah, “farm” kind of implies you’re going to grow something.
so... Ethan Travels becomes Ethan Farms :P
Omg! We saw Austin’s un blurred face! ❤
I'd watch a weekly farm video.
Congratulations, Ethan on your new endeavor. Try peppermint oil for the mice problem. I was waiting for a bunch of mice and spiders to come pouring out of the shipping container when you opened it. Can’t wait to be here when you million.
this is good to know.
Tryout to figure out where you might have your new farm. I noted red soil. Flat land with a few low hills. Scrub bushes. Are you in Oklahoma?
Congratulations on your new adventure with your farm. It's great to see you and Austin working on your own property, good luck and have fun guys.❤
Build an earth bag house. Seriously. Watch the videos and it will be indstructable and well insulated. Put on an insulated metal roof.
CONGRATS...interesting location choice....highly suggest you watch Tyler & Todd struggle with their "container home" before you commit! All the Best :)
Absolutely agree! 👍
A simple 1-2 container home is a very good idea. T & T tried something that the containers weren’t going to be good for
Did he mention where the property is? It looks like it’s somewhere in Northern Arizona?
@@jazzychazjourneys He, and most other traveling RUclipsrs, never disclose where they are in the present. This is mostly to preserve their safety, security and privacy.
Good advice.
Big congrats to you and Austin. It's going to be a great project and I bet with guys will make it look great! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Ive heard lemongrass helps keep mice away maybe a few pots of lemongrass around the camper? It has citronella oil so it also keeps away bugs. Maybe that could help!
Congratulations to you, Ethan, on your new farm/home base. May God bless you always 🙏 in your life journey. ❤

@@ethantravels Tyler and Todd are a Gay Couple that live in Canada. They lived the RV life for a couple of years. Then COVID-19 happened. They started living off grid and had an idea to build a container home. You can catch their videos on Sundays at 5:00 EDT. Their RUclips channel is: www.youtube.com/@tylerandtodd
@@ethantravelsHave a look at their channel, it may help you avoid errors they have made. My impression is that they don’t plan sufficiently carefully. That makes for great video content but slow progress.
Congrats on your new home! I look forward to watching your progress!
Happy you got the property. Looking forward to seeing it grow.
Wow... I knew running a RUclips channel with 121k subscribers was enough to live on, but enough to buy 30 acres of land at 22 years old?? During a time of record high real estate prices to boot? That's surprising to me. I know it's just undeveloped land out in the middle of nowhere, so I'm sure it was relatively cheap, but still. 30 acres of land is 30 acres of land.
