This series was legitimately art. It's one of the things I love about the internet, how often things that start as jokes end up turning into so much more. The whole "Mickey in Vietnam" thing kind of reminds me of Red Vs. Blue, where it establishes a bunch of nonsense when it's a joke and then somehow actually makes everything make sense without really retconning anything when they start taking it seriously.

Face Off; just hits so deep. Especially with people who have been in a position of really not wanting to deal with a situation that is infront of them. I think many of us have been in this situation, and damn does that song describe it so well.
Alright. Time to cry. So my uncle was a Vietnam vet who died recently. I've never heard him talk about it when he was alive. However, we still have something from him that remains from the war. His dog tags. One of the any military artifacts my family owns. I don't know a lot about vietnam, but I do know what a hell it was to fight there. He lived. And I saw his urn placed away in my family graveyard. I'm just now realizing I missed my chance to talk with him. Like I did with my grandpa, who fought in WWII. I miss them all. I hope he is in a better place now. I miss you. Thank you for reading. God bless you. Goodbye. Forever.
@@Clanker-boi A better way to honor his memory would be to try and prevent another senseless disaster like America's invasion of Vietnam from happening again. There were heroes fighting on both sides of this war, but the politicians who started and prolonged it against the will of the American people were monsters.
god i love this whole sound track 0:20 desolation is gorgeous, it has a kinda mournful duty kinda sound. it just feels like regret put into song. 2:58 simpler times has a depressed and mournful nostalgia, wanting for earlier times while regretting your mistakes. 5:15 face off is my favorite track on this entire soundtrack. it feels like the common face off music, but regretful, filled with sorrow and confusion. you can feel mickeys regret from the moment he pulls the trigger in both the scene and the song. when the guitar really rips up in the background you can feel the madness and pain just eating away at mickey. 8:49 im fading down is beautiful. the lyrics paint a picture that is mickeys mind, the PTSD, the regret, the depression, the mania, all of it just controlling him completely. all of this is while the instrumental in the background is slow, and almost sad. thank you ethereal, you honest to god created one of my favorite videos on youtube and one of my favorite cinematic soundtracks of all time. i still cannot believe you turned a mickey mouse shit post into one of the best representations of PTSD, Schizophrenia, and depression i have ever witnessed in media. thank you, sincerely, some prick on the internet.
All memes aside.. this music is genuinely captivating.. wow.. great work to everyone involved, thank you for birthing this creation for us all to enjoy and derive our own inspiration from.

I struggled for a long time with how the world, and subsequently the people as well, had changed in such a short time during my absence from it, while serving as a conscript in my countrys Armed forces. The world i left behind wasnt the same i came back to, and this series really resonated onto me in terms of the theme and the metaphors contained within it. In some aspects, i saw a lot of similarities in Mickeys condition, both during active duty and post-war, which made the experience feel even more personal. The soundtracks are just as amazing. I hope you're doing well Ethereal, you've produced a Masterpiece out of something that started as a mere sketch.
@@based4560 I did my service during peace time, so i never actually saw live combat. So suffice to say, i was luckily spared from PTSD myself. But everything about my service really stuck with me, mainly the carefree lifestyle inside the Garrison, the daily routines and the Unity of the company, despite all of the other people there being complete strangers at first. If i had to describe my experience, i would say its very similar to being institutionalized, if not exactly just that. In contrast to the freedom you get to experience in the normal world, you only have a relative amount in the service. But in exchange, you are fed three times a day, theres plenty of good exercise and skill courses, and best of all, you get to spend all that time with mostly like-minded people. So at the end of my service, it was a real hard blow to come to the realisation i would be returning to my relatively mundane life once they issued us our Military passports and certificated proof of our service, and all of us would go our separate ways. And for a time, i had a hard time adjusting back to the regular living, granted i no longer had any of the activities or routines the Military provided. It also didnt help that i immediately ran out of work on my line of profession after being released, since the Pandemic had just started when i returned. The world had gone silent in my absence.
@@pohjantuulet247 funny you should say that, I actually got institutionalized during my service lol good times. Sometimes I miss the mental hospital sometimes the army, never on the same day though.

Thank you for this OST its making me think about my grandpa who recently died, he was a vietnam vet. I'll never forget the story he told me, he was recon in the war was often was out alone in the jungle. Well he came across a huge bunch of bananas and right as he went to pick one up he started taking fire, he managed to escape unharmed. I asked him "what were you thinkinh after that?" He just chuckled and said "They took my damn bananas!" R.I.P First Sergeant Joseph Bartley May your sacrifices for your country never be forgotten.
Update: I got the story slightly wrong, appatently he was recon but he was a squad leader not a solo guy. So he and his buddies were excited about the bananas. He never talked about them except for once when i was a kid that they were all dead while we were looking at a picture of them together. I truly wonder what other stories he took with him to the grave we will never know.
@@skillex8376 Thanks man, he was also MP on the DMZ during the Korean war, and also trained a lot of people in my state on the operation of the Bradley for Desert Storm.
Goofy: "It's our moral obligation." Mickey: "Don't make me choose between my country and you. You're like a brother to me!" Max: "Go ahead, finish what you started."
Although all the songs were stunning, Face Off just hit me deeper. Thought about my uncle with it. He was a Falklands war veteran on the Argentinian side, and during the battle of wireless ridge, he was a part of the 7th infantry regiment, which defended positions near Port Stanley. As the regiment took more and more casualties, most of the soldiers retreated and abandoned their positions, but he and his long time friend were left behind. Out of pure desperation and rush, they grabbed an FN mag light machine gun, and out of despair, left their trench and emptied two whole 100-round belts at the hillsides, hoping to hit a target. They then realized they were shooting at the direction their friends were fleeing at, and not where the british were coming from, coming into sense some minutes later. That final synth riff and then final guitar riff just felt like a climax and then a realization, just like in the video where mickey starts seeing his friends as humans again. Man, war can do some crazy things to people. ps: thanks for all the replies. god bless you all and have a wonderful 2022.
For those that are forced into war against their will, that's one thing. For those that willingly join it, like US soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan, there is absolutely no mercy, forgiveness nor redemption. Soldiers suffer, but never more than the innocents and the civilians they kill under a false agenda. To the latter, rest in peace.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS I knew that you had posted your music on Patreon but I'm broke and couldn't listen to it. I'm extatic that I finally can listen to the OST. Without an ounce of exaggeration, this is one of my favorite soundtracks to anything. Just in general. It's remarkable how well the music matches the tone of the story. So few music pieces do this good of a job capturing the emotion that it's paired to as well as this does.
@@jackplaysproductions131 The adapting chord that would play randomly while you're out in SP was soo good at making me feel alone in a vast expanse. Really good game, meh multiplayer
PTSD is no joke, like Mickey I understand what it is to lose yourself. A part of me died eight years ago with the trauma that started it all, and I don' think I ever came back from that mental war that whilst I can clearly see is over my mind is still fighting despite the metaphorical all-clear being given. Does it ever get better? I don't know, but I don' t think I'll ever be able to lose the fear, that spark that continues to elude my best efforts to calm it with the soothing balm of reality. A part of me died that day, and I don't know if I can come to terms with losing the person I was and the person I continue to be.
Similar situation here Years have passed and while i'm better now sometimes my mind makes me instictively go back there out of nowhere for a few moments No idea if i'll get even better, only thing i'm certain is that i'll try with everything i have everyday to reach that goal
this shit hit me hard. i remember comming home after years from bieng away. not a single thing was the same. clean neiborhoods reduced to trash alleys. friends all either dead or hooked on drugs. i followed all of my orders. i did everything i was supposed to do. the world just...moved on. and im a part of yesterday. people forgot there was a war. they dont care that we have enemies or people to defend. that this place is our home. and its still worth saving. they are still worth saving. is the lie ill tell myself. so i can get up ever day. if i trip they will fall. they are still worth saving.
be strong and you Will find your way again sure it's bad but it's about love for those you care for that Really matters at the end that's there responsiblity but we shouldn't force them to have it or force them to try just focus on what is Your life because THAT matters to
You're not alone. We go out, we do what we're told, what needs to be done. Our hands stained, our memories burnt out, coming home to a place that has forgotten us, or worse, praises us with plastic support without knowing what we went through. "Thank you for your service", a hollow sentiment, though well meaning, from those who don't know. We come back to the place we fought for to find it unrecognizable. We fought for a place that no longer exists and no longer cares. It hurts every day knowing my brothers died for this. I'm tired brother. But only together can we make it through this. Find our brothers and stay close.
life isnt fair and wont be fair buts thats okay, we all face hardships while not everything is worth saving some things are but you find those things worth saving through hardship and then we can realize the truth
The journey of this series was like watching decades pass in the blink of an eye. The art, the story and music felt like going from theatre to film to colour TV to IMAX. Beautiful.
I'm fading down maybe the best song I've heard in a while. It's somber tones make you think, and it's not overly sad to where it's another generic sad song. The word have such a deep and specific meaning behind them, and it's vague words can let you paint yourself into the picture. 100/10 you deserve an Oscar (not sure if the Oscar is still a thing, but it's the most notable award for media stuff to me so I used it) for your sound design.
I’m Fading Down gives me shivers, not only because it is beautiful music, but because it is the song that essentially ends one of the deepest RUclips series’s I have ever watched.
"Maybe that's my punishment; no burning bush. No smiting. No *anything* *Nothing* Just that i have to look into the eyes of the people i've wronged." -mickey mouse

“Do you feel like a hero yet?” One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite games Spec Ops: The Line. Both depict of mentally ill men trying to become what they aren’t, heroes
I wanted so badly to comment something that captured all of my feelings on this OST, but I just can’t. There’s too many, and not enough words to the music, the feelings, or the work that was put into this justice. Bravo. I can’t think of anymore words. Bravo.
the fact that these songs are made with 2 guitars, 1 bass, a synth and a voice really shows to me the power of music, i love this so much, it's amazing how simple this is and stills making me feel so many things

Spent the better part of the last 10(ish) years of my life battling addiction and childhood ptsd as well as depression, yadda yada. This series resonated with me heavily as I was constantly battling past selves and memories. Finally realized if I didn't let the bad ones go no matter how bad they were. Spent so long looking into the abyss it started staring back and i knew i would be the first to blink, so i looked away. Got really sick with a bug, quit drinking, vaping, stopped my anti-depressants, and spent the next two weeks just being sick. I didnt nessesarily focus on the good, but i started forgetting about the bad. Stopped crying over spilt milk and just got stuff done. Cut out toxic family members, friends, started surrounding myself with less people and learning to enjoy life with rhe few friends i now have and learning to live myself, bit by bit. Maybe some day my depression will end me, but untill then, I'm going to enjoy the time I've got and all the little moments in between. If you read this far, i hope you have a good day, stay groovy and dont beat yourself up to much, alright?
'I'm fading down' is so thematically perfect for the ending. It really captures the desolation that war leaves behind and the desire to disappear out of the world that the characters feel.
Hi from Russia, author of Mickey masterpiece. War theme is painful. Though, I've not seen it 100%, i was a 17 year old wordless and helpless watcher of war spreading at home. I saw drunken father crying after he took me and mom from home, far from war, but it was exhausting. It is the biggest pain in my life, i saw him at basement via skype, cause he should take care of my grannies, so he returned home. We all are alive, and uninjured, our home is undamaged. We are much luckier, then hundreds of other families. But some part of us is left behind, somewhere 8 years ago. Why the fuck I'm writing it here? I can't forget it. Nobody deserves it. Be safe, you, your family and home.
6:03-My favorite part of the whole video is in large part thanks to this specific riff. It's as if the music itself is hanging it's head in shame, as if it knows as well as Mickey that he's truly going to become an irredeemable wretch the moment the hammer on that gun comes down.
have you ever thought about how tom from tom and jerry lived in a mouse infested house, and the owner was living in complacency, while Tom simply wanted a better live for his owner, given his unwillingness to take care of the things leeching off of him in his life. And every attempt to help the owner would only throw Tom into more trouble because you can’t help someone who won’t help themselves.
@@billyboy4283 that's my headcanon, sometimes he failed and was forced to leave the house and even got executed in the musketeers style episode It's a "either him or me" for tom but after a while his nemesis became his best friend and now he dreads the moment when finally one of them has to go, because he isn't stupid, he knows playtime will end sooner or later Now i want a tom & jerry video lol
Your series is so amazing. This music perfectly suits the story. You feel all the intended emotion just from hearing it. I hope you're making amazing content forever.
Friend sent me the first video when it came out and I didn't realize how invested I would get. This series was amazing on a level I can't explain. I applaud you.
I say this as a compliment, this OST has a very Akira Yamaoka vibe to it. Maybe the theming and happenings in those videos make me associate it to Silent Hill, but it can't be denied that this OST on just any sad/sob story would be a disservice. A huge kudos to the whole team, congrats mangs.
Love was never the issue, loving myself was, i looked back at all those i've hurt, all those who's lives i've changed. The friends ive lost to the fight for life. It's very sobering to realize. All the way i've come, the steps i've taken for my own future, the passion that burns within to make sure my family is safe. To ensure my future and theirs. I love myself, i love all that i have accomplished, i regret all that i did wrong, but have the goal to move forward. Life doesn't wait, and i sure as fuck, am not getting left behind.

5:15 **Face Off comes in slowly** "you can be the best at what you do, the fastest, the strongest.. but you still won't be fast enough, strong enough, or good enough to get away from your mistakes... sooner or later, they always come looking. no matter how far you run, where you bury it, or what you do to escape your past... you can't get away from yourself. and in those quiet moments, it will gnaw at you. scream at you. ask you why. 'why? why, why, WHY?!' over and over. again, and again, until nothing remains. just a hollow, broken person. broken, alone.. and exhausted."

Funny ain't it
Not in the way war does
I struggled for a long time with how the world, and subsequently the people as well, had changed in such a short time during my absence from it, while serving as a conscript in my countrys Armed forces.
Oh this happened to you? Was this similar to your own experiences.

Hehe, feel a bit bad about the bananas x3
But it's nice when you can still have good memories of times like that
Update: I got the story slightly wrong, appatently he was recon but he was a squad leader not a solo guy. So he and his buddies were excited about the bananas. He never talked about them except for once when i was a kid that they were all dead while we were looking at a picture of them together. I truly wonder what other stories he took with him to the grave we will never know.

For those that are forced into war against their will, that's one thing. For those that willingly join it, like US soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan, there is absolutely no mercy, forgiveness nor redemption.

It's somber tones make you think, and it's not overly sad to where it's another generic sad song. The word have such a deep and specific meaning behind them, and it's vague words can let you paint yourself into the picture.

War theme is painful. Though, I've not seen it 100%, i was a 17 year old wordless and helpless watcher of war spreading at home. I saw drunken father crying after he took me and mom from home, far from war, but it was exhausting.
