Not gonna lie, after rewatching these eps with you guys season 6 is better than i remembered. I might even go as far as to say that I'm kinda liking it more than season 5 so far
Patrick really didn’t listen to Sandy in the Suds episode when she told him it’s illegal to impersonate a doctor. He did a bad job trying to make Spongebob’s splinter go away, instead pushing the splinter further in… yeah, this episode was hella gross 🥴 I love how Squidward was annoyed at first with the slide whistle noises, then joins them to annoy other people with the noises 💀💀💀 forget the clarinet, he can play the slide whistle too!
The one thing I just realized is the fact that SpongeBob and Patrick supposedly can’t swim yet you see them doing exactly that when chasing Squidward in the water or goo lol
The thing is, I would say it definitely is one of the worst episodes of SpongeBob they've watched so far.....but it still wasn't _that bad._ It just wasn't particularly great either; like you said, decent at best. But considering how good the better episodes are, a "worse" episode by comparison isn't necessarily _bad...._ It didn't offend me or put me off like I expected it to.
I don’t know why keep saying modern SpongeBob episodes? In 4 years these episode will turn 20 years old. I but get it time is flying by so fast that people are forgetting season 6 premiered 15-16 years ago.

As hated as “The Splinter” is by most people, I at least liked that Mr. Krabs helped remove the splinter from SpongeBob, especially since we usually don’t see Mr. Krabs being nice like that in these Seasons which is why I genuinely liked that part of this episode.

Fun fact: we have seen in other episodes that SpongeBob has the ability to detach limbs and regenerate them at will... so why did he not do that here in the first place?! "The Splinter" might just be the most pointless episode in the entire series, and we may as well pretend it is non-canon.
Squidward always gets punished for having fun. Even when he goes overboard because of the two morons going out of their way to make his life suck, if it was spongebob and patrick doing all that whistle trolling to the entire town there would be some kind of BS coincidence that happens to pin the consequences for whatever they did on someone else.

The splinter is very uncomfortable to watch. I say something I like about this episode. The beginning started out great! 2. 0:45- the caveman in the Krusty Krab krabfreezer is so random and so funny😂 How he got there? 2- 0:32 I always like the creativity of this show, that hasn’t went away with these seasons!
Yeah, ironically a lot of so-called bad episodes start out with really good beginnings. It does take a true bad episode to be completely awful from start to finish like "Boating Buddies" or "That Sinking Feeling" for me at least.

I don’t remember this episode being super horrible when I was a younger kid but I still never wanted to rewatch this episode if it ever came on tv again. Rewatching it there’s some funny bits in it, but even as a kid this episode never felt fun or enjoyable to watch like most episodes before this one.

I was honestly amazed to see everyone hated "The Splinter", I thought it was peak gross-out. Yet Ren and Stimpy gets called "a classic" when that cartoon's nothing but gross-out beer goggles.
I don't like "The Splinter" not because of gross out image of SpongeBob's finger, but because the concept itself is quite boring, the only good part in all of this is Squidward messing up with SpongeBob about it. And again, after "Suds" episode from season 1 SpongeBob didn't learn a damn thing about not trusting Patrick to be his doctor. Overall it's not mean like Good Neighbors or destroying character like To Love a Patty but it's still one of the most forgettable episodes in the whole show outside of graphic finger images. Slide Whistle Stooges is better but still, it's just SpongeBob and Patrick straight up driving Squidward mad and causing him to get injured again. The time he grew to actually enjoy playing with reef blower in SquidVille episode is much more memorable and entertaining.

Sure, there's a scant handful of disturbing scenes, but otherwise it was okay at best.
