Great guide! I've been grinding salvage missions to save credits to buy the prospector and upgrades to start ship mining. This guide has all I need to know. Thanks!
So did they change the ability to upgrade rented ship components? I thought you could not make changes to a rented ship. What I wish content creaters would include is what to do and or go with a stock prospector for those true begginers into mining or the game
The servers can be finicky sometimes, the rocks resistance and instability also play a big factor in it. It's hard to say exactly what the issue might be without seeing the exact rock in question.
The goal when you do these runs is to hit between the 15-20 min mark from start to finish. Granted that makes the purpose of the runs all business and can take the enjoyment out of it for some as its a bit of a speed run. But with 48 SCU capacity you should easily make about 200k+ a run after refinement. But that's assuming your loads are majority bexalite, taranite, gold or obviously quantanium
@@epic_grayfoxits logically base on luck and server response, of my 10 runs, only 2 i manage to get 200k+ (excluding refine waiting time) under 20 min, rest average like 200k /h its possible to achieve 600k in one hour, but not on average, unless i did wrong
Cluster factor is how likely a material is to "stick" together. The higher the number the better it will clump together when fractured. You want this number to be high.
@epic_grayfox one last question 😊. Does the optimax gadget help with clustering ? ( I've read it's description and still can't quite understand what it does 😅 )
Not for me. Did you clear the shader cahce and the user profile thing the launcher recomends? I might have been lucky havent played in a while so now I have no issues perhaps its messing up for people who had jobs through the patch? Like on the refinery I mean
For beginner miners I would have to recommend sticking to the stock, Arbor mining head. Perhaps adding either a Focus 3 module for larger charge window or a Rieger C3 module for a bit more power. I've got nothing against the Hofstede. But it does take a hit on instability. And instability is arguably the single biggest enemy of a new miner. The Arbor mining head will handle most rocks up to 5K mass with little trouble. And depending on the rock contents a size 1 Arbor can break rocks to 9K mass.
That's a strong Stance to take I feel like. Considering the hofstede beats the arbor in basically every other category. Sure, hofstede increases instability but we are talking about a 10% increase which is practically nothing, but still gives a larger charge window than the arbor
@@epic_grayfox Back in 3.19 and before yes, an added 10% instability was so piddly it didn't even really count as a joke. Of course in those days Quant mining was the money making meta and the Lancet was the end all be all mining head for quant. Now? 10% plus or minus instability can mean the difference between setting up a refinery order and filing a claim to recover your Prospector. Especially for a new miner. Hofstede is a good laser. But it's not well suited for someone just starting out in mining. That 10% hit to instability means that much more likely to overcook a rock and have it blow up in your face. And that shorter optimum range means far more likely that blowout will result in the ship being unflyable. Assuming it doesn't send you back for a regen cause you died. Maybe YOU were Mr. Perfect from the start. But I don't know of nor have I heard of anyone who didn't blow out a rock or 3 when first starting out. And by far most are honest enough to admit they still blow one out now and then. Even after many hours, days, weeks, months, even years of practice. An Arbor mining head is a good laser to start out with while they get the hang of the controls. Plus, as it comes preinstalled on the Prospector. It doesn't cost anything extra at a time when they probably don't have a whole lot of aUEC to spare. Get the hang of it. Learn the controls. Build up a bit of cash. Then they can start trying out the different mining heads, modules, and even gadgets to see what is going to work best for them.
Honestly I’d need someone to play with me. Take me under their wing a bit and help teach me some stuff in game I’m trying to learn but I’m feeling sooo overwhelmed

Thanks for watching, glad I was able to help 🙏
very in depth and clear! thank you! especially the tip about the mole saddle bags, i had no idea. much appreciated!!
Awesome guide thank you!
Great video! Really clear and concise.
where would you suggest planet mining and space mining
Nice guide! ❤

I don 't get it. I have the Helix combo and I don't get the impossible rocks to heat up. What am I doing wrong?`THX

How does scanning in space differ? I scan them down and they disappear instead of changing into rock icons as I get closer.
How exactly did you make 600k an hour? Your video didn't mention it.

What is this "Cluster factor" I see against each ore type ? Eg Bexalite is 0.1 and Aluminum is 0.7 ?

@mike_d_melb_music_fan5229 yes! The optimax is the only thing you can use to increase cluster factor artificially.
Do you lose the custom componets on a rental prospector?
They should appear back in your station inventory its stored at or back at your home planet inventory. That's usually where I find them.
Unfortunate with the new patch the refineries are busted..i figured that out after i rented a prospecter for 7 days 😞

Busted how?
@epic_grayfox was busted day of and day after the launch, it is fixed now for everyone I've come across

Where’s that universal item finder link???
Idk where it went, weird. Anyway: Added to description!
pressing v isnt scanning?
This guide is a bit dated, there is a 3.23 guide out on the channel and I am working on the 3.24 guide now
@@epic_grayfox I dont think you can mine atm. I went to 3 moons/planets and i was pressing tab ( i assume thats the button) and found nothing.
Did they remove Diamond from the game? Or did you just forget it in your list?
Ship lasers are too powerful for diamonds, you can only use handmining
