Happy holidays, Bob! I think this kind of videos has the most value for a general audience. I found quite a few great value wines at TJ due to your recommendations. Cheers! P.S. I just got a vintage Cava from Costco (Gelida 2018). I've never seen a vintage Cava before. Did you try this one by any chance?
Happy holidays Igor! This time of year, shopping videos make sense. I’ve not tried your Cava, but I’ve had vintage Cava before. It should be very good, likely had extended time on the lees.
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine I'm a bit torn on my impression of this Cava. It does have that yeasty nose and taste of a good Champaigne, yet it seems a bit too acidic. That's why I asked what you think of it in case you tried it.
@@bobpaulinskimasterofwine The label doesn't say what grape varieties were used. It says grapes are organic and it was aged for a minimum of 48 months. Given it's a 2018 vintage, this must be a fairly new release.
Happy holidays Bob. Some very nice “Wednesday” night Bordeaux. Thank you for sharing. I’ve some leftover ‘13 Brunello from Christmas dinner last night to finish 😊. Cheers.
I thought you'd scored a bottle of Pontet-Canet for under $30! I've never tried that St. Emelion chateau but hopefully my local TJ's has it. Good video as usual. Cheers.
Years ago, I’m talking 30* years ago, Ponet Canet was one of the least expensive classified chateaux. I recall drinking a 1967 that was bottled by a shipper and not bottled at the chateau. As for Grand Pontet, I hope you can find it. Thanks for the good word on the video. 🍷
First, let me say, I am sooooo glad I found this channel. Second, I love that very French pop when you pull the cork. Very classy. 🍟😃 TY for unwrapping the Trader Joe's French conundrum. I'll have to try that Chateau Pirouette with a Double Double Animal Style with fries. At 8 bucks, if it is not good it gets poured in Beef Burgundy.....errr make that, Beef Bordeaux. A dish in search of a recipe.
Hey Bob, I made it out to Trader Joe’s this morning and they did not have wine 4 so I bought wine 3. Will report back. They also had a handful of Paulliac wines ranging from $44-$69. Did not get any of those because I did not have time to research on the spot.
Happy Holidays! Love this style of presentation from $ to $$. I also love the fact that I shop at TJ at least once a week and enjoy looking at their wine selection. I know which bottle I will purchase to add to our NYE bar tray on Tuesday - Grand Pontet! :)
With the word ‘Pontet’ in the name and a similar style graphic on the label as Pontet Canet, do they share the same ownership despite being on opposite sides of the river?
No, the ownership is not the same. Pontet Canet is owned by the Tesseron family, Grand Pontet was sold in 2021 to the same family that owns Haut Brion ,La Mission Haut Brion and Chateau Quintas in St Emilion. It’s my understanding that the vineyards of Grand Pontet will become part of Chateau Quintas.
@ l’m in my tenth yr of wine, and to say I’m hooked would be the understatement of the ages. Just love everything about it, including the history and general facts. Then you get to drink it too!!
@@scottdunlap8668 I agree, there’s so much to it, history, politics, business, science, religion, a culinary aspect, human perseverance and ingenuity. And it’s connected to places that are well worth visiting. And you can drink it!
Hey Bob I bought that Pauillac before I knew anything about that region and before I found your channel. It was ok and then I discovered the cost of wines in that region!! Thanks for selecting that one and providing info. Can you let us know how you can tell which ones can be kept long term.
Hi Eddie, that wine is Pauillac at a regional level, not at a premium level. In terms of aging potential, I consider the wine producer, the region and vintage. With some, I know from past experience. As a general rule, the more specific the place of origin, the better the aging potential. For example, a basic/generic appellation Bordeaux will be the shortest lived, a regional appellation like Pauillac will be marginally longer lived, while a specific chateau bottling (especially Grand Crus) will be the longest lived.
I'm beginning to think that the reason why I'm underexposed to Bordeaux is just because there's little competitive stock to be found at a reasonable price where I live. With Burgundy I don't get that problem because I pay the money anyway 😂
This won't work with Bob's setup. To dramatically improve audio, he would need a $300+ shotgun microphone plus stand. I personally don't have any issues with the audio quality. It's not perfect but not terrible either. I don't think there is a strong reason to go with a much more expensive setup at this point.
If you've not yet subscribed, please consider doing so now. It's much appreciated.

The Grand Faurie ages well . TJ's had the 2014 and 2016 vintages a few years ago both drank well

Just reloaded on 2020 cap de faugeres....amazing, modern bordeaux with good weight....$15 in chicago. My weekday wine

Bordeaux is heaped with value, but it’s too bad you don’t see it. When Burgundy is on the mark, it’s worth the money.
