I'm here in 2021. Theraputic. Lovely. I've moved on to digital M but yearning now, to pick up my M6 from the dry cabinet back home. Thanks Paul. Much appreciated

Wonderful content. Love the moods and feeling this video gave me. Beatiful
Thanks so much Craig, that means a lot! Take care
Outstanding video man! I enjoyed every moment of it. I agree that Leica’s have a type of magic to them, I love my M4, I really like your editing style and the fact you included every step of the way. Great choice of music and amazing photography. A pleasure to watch, thank you! Ps I subscribed 👌
Michael thanks for your lovely comment appreciate your support and thanks for the sub, hopefully more interesting content to come.
Very inspiring video Paul, photo 3 was my favourite, heading to the beach tomorrow to finish off a roll or 2 in my Olympus O-M1 and my Rolleicord 🏴📷👍
This was really a great watch thank you so much for taking the time to upload and share
Thankyou Jared your welcome

Thanks Mali!
Nice trip, photos turned out great!
Lovely work .. This video just makes me miss NZ so much .... I need to get back for a tour. I loved wandering around with my camera, and never seeing another soul for hours.
Yep its a special thing we have here in enz, hope you return! Thanks for the comment!!
superb work, it's refreshing to see a channel with this level of work
Thankyou
Thanks for that interesting video, Paul. Well explained, good music and best of all showing the result of your shooting/development.
It was a pleasure Khun, thanks for making the time to comment, really appreciate your support.
Wonderful series of photos!
Some great shots...with tha roll ...Paul you keep ...outdoing yourself...
Thanks ED
Really great stuff! There's something very "zen" about your videos, and it's very enjoyable and inspiring to see how you work. A rangefinder, a single prime, a landscape and black & white film. It doesn't get much better than this.
Thankyou Dharuma, that means a lot! Yes I think the less intrusion in our photography the better, keeping our options to a minimum and losing yourself in your surroundings is magic. Thanks for watching and your comment, that makes me want to make more.
Love this, i always feel the same with film. I’m always worried that ill be missing moments if they turn out bad, and I’ll be kicking myself for not going with digital! Your end products were amazing! And like you said with film you feel great doing it. Awesome work and thank you for bringing us along with you :)
Thankyou, and your welcome
Wow love it - great photos as well
Thankyou
Another stellar video
Thanks Seth
really nice pictues! loved watching this video! and the m6 is such a legendary camera, you are lucky to own one
Thanks A_S yea sweet camera for sure.
Awesome content, youtube needs more of this. keep it up!
Thankyou fed, really appreciate your support.
Thank you for putting the time and effort into it! subscribed, looking forward to what's next
Hey Paul. Thanks for sharing your photography journey - it' very inspirational.
Bastian thank you so much for the comment, its a pleasure to share and even more so to inspire, the best compliment one can receive. Thank you again!
Your whole progress to photography is just right down my alley - slowing down, understanding light, visualising without controlling the outcome too much - the intuitive and creative feeling with film photography - well done.
Good job. Really enjoyed that. I thought I was over analogue but you've just blown that for me-cheers Paul!
Thanks Derek, I thought I was over it as well until a few months back but it's taken a hold again! Ah well back to that funny chemical smell in the laundry. Thanks for watching.
Man this is way underappreciated! The very first photography video I've ever watched 2 times in one sitting! Just an grateful I found this. I dont have a camera anymore I had to sell my sony A7ii last year for Bill's but I still love the art and watching others create amazing content! And I'm just dizzy with amazement with how pure this was and the slowness and appreciation for what you're doing! You have what others are reaching for and some. Please keep sharing and keep this style! Things will work out in the end... Cheers mate, all the way from St. Louis, Missouri USA!
Grazie
Inspiring. I just ordered my first Leica, an M6. Can hardly wait...
Awesome!
Leica seems polarising partly due to the high prices associated with it and that air of elitism swirling around their gear. The digital Leica’s face a future of digital obsolescence however most of the film bodies seem to live beyond their age. It’s a wonderful feeling making photos with a beloved camera. Thank you Paul.
Thank you
Fantastic video, really well shot. I agree on the leica magic, there’s something in the way I compose with a rangefinder that I can always recognize in the final images. Thanks for making this!
Tnankyou, yes its a special experience,. Glad you enjoyed take care
Will certainly follow you Paul...and ty for sharing
Thanks Edwin
Great and inspiring video, I like every step of it, I am inspired to do the same with my Leica M4. Thanks for sharing,
Thankyou
Wow, really enjoyed this video (just discovered your channel), and your photographs were beautiful. I could see the your passion for photography, it was clearly evident in your video and your wonderful photos. Bravo 👍.
Definitely worth a sub.
Thanks Jas, glad my love and passion came through. Thanks for subscribing.
Lovely video and stunning, visceral photographs. I had a huge smile when that first one popped up on the screen at the end.
There really is nothing quite like the feeling of making pictures on a Leica film camera. It has become an emotional experience for me shooting film. I use an M7 but in the last few days have been treating it more like an M6/MP and using manual shutter only on the streets and training myself to stop relying on aperture priority.
I feel inclined to get out into the country with some of my favourite Tri-X now. Keep up the lovely work, Paul.
Thanks so much Nick, take care
Nice one Paul. I really like your analogy that learning film is like an apprenticeship. I think I might have to borrow a quote from you on that one. RIP Acros.
Yea mate definitely. I felt a little bit sad about the Acros thing this week, that's why I made the video, of all the films to discontinue it had to be one of the best B&W.
Great video, I still use a Nikon FA and Olympus OM2n for film shoots, lots of fun. A wonderful selection of beautiful images. Well done and thank you.
I have the Om2n also lovely camera. Thanks for the comment
Amazing work 😍 really getting the most out of the medium 💪💪💪
Thankyou ti
Hi Paul, awesome video sir...I've never really explored landscape in my own photography before but you've definitely inspired me with your videos. Love the stark, minimilist feeling...Says something to me. Keep up the good work! Steve
Thanks Steve, that comment is like gold to me , thanks so much. More to come stay tuned!
I was looking forward to seeing the photos of the seagulls lol!
Lovely images, great video
Thanks for the nice comments Alan, take care.
Just discovered you on RUclips. Thanks for the content and I will definitely keep tuned for more and catch up on your previous content.
Thanks Alan, your welcome! Stay tuned
Beautiful work Paul, really inspires me to take more seriously my comeback into film photography, thanks!! Greetings from Mexico!!
edmendoza photography thanks so much for the comment fantastic to hear this has inspired you
Lovely work.
Thank you Marcus
Good results from an informative outing. Well done!
Thanks Paul
Very nice Shots, who needs digital cameras. Love the mood of film.
Awesome!!
Great camera and film combination to go with a wonderful land scape.
Lovely work Paul and I know it is hard work too and if someone in your boots only understand how enthusiastic and the drive you need to be at this level to get the maximum from photography. It is nothing to do with LEICA BUT YOUR SHOICE OF CHOOSING THIS CAMERA IS ONLY COMPLIMENTING TO GET WHAT YOU WANT. And thanks for the share of your photography.
My pleasure
Awesome video Paul. Your video is one of the main reasons why I've bought a M6 :-)
Don't blame me please... lol. Thankyou!
Beautiful shots with the Leica and a great video with great music. As you said, there is something magical about shooting with a Leica. I sent my M3 to the shop for some CLA about 3 weeks ago - I should have it back tomorrow. I have about 9 other cameras, but I truly miss not having the Leica, which is my go-to camera. I'll be so happy to have it in my possession again. Keep the videos coming; you have a new subscriber.
Hope your camera returns better than ever from its TLC holiday. Thanks for the comment and support. Keep watching
Subscribed! I have those rangefinder film cameras too. Film will never die.
Thankyou lets keep it alive
Hey Paul, wonderful video! I started in the film days 40 yrs ago but have been 100% digital now for many years. About a year ago, I dusted off my old Contax 139 and loaded it with Ilford HP5. I had a ball. Now a year later, I have a full darkroom and have added a Leica M6 to my gear. You are right, that camera is magic!
Hi Jim, film is so infectious. Prior to making this video I hadn't shot film for about 8 months, but this one roll has reminded me of the magic. Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed.
Hi Paul, great to see you enjoying the M6. Great video and photos!
Dennis are you the guy who sold me the M6??
That's right, stumbled upon this video somehow today, something seemed familiar.
Lol thats cool, love that camera, thanks for watching!
Great video and editing, just discovered and subscribed to your channel, looking forward to more vids! greetings from Spain
Thankyou glad you enjoyed grazie
great video! brings me back to my film days. although i never developed my own film. i have a chrome Leica M6 as well. Those long hours of scanning film (later on) on my Epson V500, then silverfast, dust removal, then lightroom. Such a long process before you get to Lightroom. only to get 2-6 shots in a roll worth keeping. I think the enjoyment is in the shooting and sometimes i wouldn't even care if i never saw the result. Shooting an M6 is so enjoyable. I'm spoilt with digital these days. having said that, there's nothing quite like flicking through 36 6x4 prints.
Stunning :)
Thankyou
Lovely video,
nice images dude , especially the first 3
Thanks Guy
Thanks for the video Paul, very inspiring. I'm back on the film wagon again a few years ago after flirting with digitals in particular Fuji's which I love dearly. Enjoying the back to basic, slowing down and not getting the 'lost in tech' feeling. I live in Scotland which also has a great variety of landscape and scenery, looking forward to doing more. It like turning the clock back 40 years for me in a heart beat. Anyone who takes photos with a fandangled digital should really shoot some film, you are spot on when you say it gives an understanding...something often missing from digital photography. My developing gear was delivered today, canny wait. I'm searching for an m6 which lead me to your video, I've got an awful itch that just needs scratched! Keep up the good work and happy snapping. Another new sub to boot. Cheers, oh ps, just ordered some acros before it disappears.
Awesome hope you find a nice M! Thanks for taking the time to comment and hopefully I will be able to supply more interesting content. PS if you push acros a couple of stops to 400 you will get some nice results.
I'll give it a go, thanks. I had the lab push HP5+ a stop last week, very nice too. Shot on a little Rollei 35S, fun fun fun. Cheers. The video on my channel was shot mainly with Fuji's Acros simulation on the X-pro2, make a nice job of it.
Great images Paul. I'm finding it more and more appealing shooting film as time goes on. I can see myself giving up on Digital before long LOL. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Andy
As a NZer living overseas, hearing the accent on RUclips cracks me up. Great vid and pics, subscribed!
Glad I have finally perfected the Kiwi accent, I'm a Black Country boy, exported to New Zealand at the age of 9, it's taken me 40 years to perfect that LOL. Glad I put a smile on your face.
Another nice video Paul!!! And congrats on hitting 100 subs!
Thanks Richard!
I gave you a "Like" too!! Come on guys, Paul's video should have way more likes and views!!!
And I should bring out my M6 and shoot more haha
Yea Richard love that camera.
Thank you for posting your video, very much enjoyed watching it. Yes, I love the images you should be right-proud of your results, you did quite good.
About eight years ago I returned to film, sold all my pro digital gear. My Leica is the IIIf with Elmar 50mm f/3.5, Summaron 35mm f/3.5, and a Canon 50mm f/1.4. Though Leica IIIf is my preferred camera, I do have numerous SLR with many lens; picked them up at estate sales and the like. My only digital camera is my iPhone, use its camera mainly for scanning documents and quick captures, for my regular photography it is always film. Friends and family think me shooting film is loony, as though good photo can not be captured with film only digital; what happened the 150 years prior to digital. The one thing I notice with digital shooters is they almost always say “I will fix it in post”. That mindset to me indicates they are more enamored with their computer graphic skills than their photography skills.
Thanks for watching Ric, you make some very good points.
I am not sure about Leica magic, but Acros definitely has magic. If you have any left I'd highly recommend a Rodinal stand solution. Lovely video Paul
Thanks Matt
Nice episode Paul. Liked and subscribed. Will definitely be watching more. I have an M6 too so would love to see more of these type of eps. if you can make them. Great work! :)
Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment, yes the M6 will be back soon..take care
Wonderful images
Thanks
Very good, thanks, enjoyed that. I'm mostly film these days; two recently-acquired Nikon F3s, an original Pentax ME Super I've had from new and my wife's Olympus Trip. Though my preference with film is street, it was very interesting to see how a camera generally regarded as a street tool can be used very effectively for landscape.
I think my experience with film is helping me to be more focused - as I hoped it would; I like to say now I do my chimping in the viewfinder (be it film or digital) before taking the shot. I just returned from a trip to the US. I shot five rolls of film but also 352 digital shots with my LX100 Lumix. Of the 352 the vast majority are keepers. Later this year a road trip around Australia with the Nikons and the Pentax and about 60 rolls of HP5....
Thanks Mark
Beautiful video, well done. Next you'll be looking for darkroom gear and exploring the world of B&W printing, which I recommend. Making prints by hand is a whole other world than scanning film.
Lol I've often contemplated a dark room, but stopped myself short. I don't need another obsession! But it's probably inevitable. Thanks for the comment and support.
FAN tastic..!
Thankyou
makes me home sick I could have cried ,and makes me want to shoot film again haven't done that for years
Thanks Christine
Quand la photogràphie est un art, très inspirant 🙂
Merci, merci, vous avez apprécié
Paul C Smith Photographer c’est magnifique votre travail, je suis admiratif, j’en ai pris plein les yeux 😊❤️
I enjoyed this more than any other YT vid I have checked out lately. Similar to another comment, I am returning to film after many years away from photography altogether. I am a recent adopter of a Fuji x100T which I enjoy using. Less than a week ago I bought a Leica M4 and I am half way through a roll of Ilford hp5. I plan to develop my own film as well, so this video is well timed for me.
I appreciate very much your thoughts (philosophy ) on what shooting film does to slow us down, learn and think about the process. Thanks , JM.
Thanks for the positive comment James. I had the X100T but sold it a few months back to fund a new lens, super camera! I so highly recommend the film experience as it opens up a whole new dimension to your photography. I havent shot film for a few months and shooting this roll has spiked my love for it again, so more film stuff to come. Stay tuned and thanks again.
fantastic vlog take me back to high school in the 1975 make me wont get out the old Minolta and try some b+w
Hi Mathew thanks for that, make sure you dust it off! Glad you enjoyed
Can hugely recommend the Waikare River Mouth beach over near Putorino in Hawkes Bay, completely otherworldly landscape!
Thanks Tom. If I am down that way I will make an effort to check it out, thanks for the tip!!
nice!
Hey Paul just found ur Chanel via landscape photogs on FB happy to subscribe and start enjoy your vlogs mate
Thanks mate appreciate it
Paul C Smith Photographer errrr WOW by far and away the finest set of photos I've seen in a long time that beautiful grain stunning this took me way back to my ole days deving mono I've long thought about putting a roll through the ole camera your video is spurring me on also I've now added port Waikato to my to do soon list awesome vlog mate loved every second u have a new fan lad
Thanks man really appreciate it!!
Nice video! Gives folks why a Leica so nice to use. I would ditch that bag with furniture! Travel light! Why no filter? Blowing sand is dangerous for a Leica.. I use Skylight always except on a beach like this Yellow or better Red (25A). The images are nice, walk slower see more.. Glad to find you. Good shooting!
hi Paul, excellentvideo, please tell me about the result from Leica M8 comparison to M6 ,thanks Paul
Hey Paul, I scan my BW 35mm film with my Epson scanner and software, but I often struggle getting scans with good highlight, shadow and mid-tones. Would you mind showing your process in a future video, including how you go about adjusting the scan exposure settings? Thanks!!
Hi there yea I did a video on that a few months back, check this out..... ruclips.net/video/qBgkq1WW_HI/видео.html
Another option for black and white if you can't afford the equipment and film is to use vintage lenses. Nice work man
Thankyou
Beautiful photos. I have been thinking about using my M6 again for a while......this will help. What was the scanner you were using, that’s whats holding me back I think.....laziness and the need to see it all now.
Hi Richard, I am using the Cannon 9000F Mark2 scanner. Thanks for your comment.
Great camera. Lovely images. Curious to know the scanner and model.
Canon 9000F MK2
I will miss Acros I wish Fuji would at least keep it in 4x5 and 120.
Terry Breedlove they came back. Im from the future.😂
its like a breath of fresh air holding something so compact but yet so powerful. thats is the Leica M. the ACROS is a black and white film but from my monitor the output looked like a bit of sepia maybe brownish a little. Is this something you did in post? or was it an original ACROS character? Love your vlogs. thanks mate!
Lovely work Paul. Love the contrast and sharpness, really inspiring work. Just wondering if after the scanning process you go for a editing process in Lightroom or those are exactly the photos after the film develop. Cheers!
Yea mate a bit of LR editing in this one
Wondering if you had a recommendation for a scanner? Thanks Paul. Really enjoying your work.
Im currently on the Epson V850
Lovely landscapes - is the strong vignetting from the lens or did u enhance in post?
Hi Robert, the first image "Footsteps" had some hard vignetting in post added. Thanks for the comment.
Would you mind sharing the time and temperature with the HC110 developer? I have a good supply of Acros in 4x5 and 120 in my freezer and I have HC110 but generally use it at dilution E, B being too short developing time for most films. I have tried D76 1:1, but think I overdeveloped it. I am going to try Tmax RS 1:9 for about 11 minutes at 20C. I really like the overall look of your results, increased contrast for a flat light situation.
Hi Steve, think I pushed this roll to 400 I usually always push Acros, as it like the way it pops. Dilution B 10mins and I use my finger to test the temp I just take the cold edge off the water so it feel around 20deg I never lose sleep about the technichal stuff. Thanks for watching.
very nice photos, the scans are very dusty though!
Thanks Jack, yea they were a bit murky for sure. Thanks for watching.
What happened to you? Where did you go? I’m missing your video! Hope all is well.
I think your Video Filming was faultless & Loved the music... ive always followed your Black & Whites for over a fair crack in time .... could you do an Ep on digital b+w & color correction /or Photo Shop !
Thanks mate, yea next video I'm planning on going over photo editing. Stay tuned!
Great shots! Out of curiosity, what kind of developer did you use?
Hi Jordan thanks! Kodak HC110 dilution B
I miss seeing your dog, where is he/she?
Rest In Peace our dear friend Acros 100
Amen
Hey Paul,
what type of Epson Scanner is it, you are using? Regards and stay healthy! Markus
Its a Canon 9000f MK2. Cheers
Oh... looked like Epson. Thanks Paul!
Loved the first photo! Did you edit the photos?
Thankyou yes i did
Paul C Smith Photographer They look beautiful, what editor do you use?
great work and i liked the video but those images at the end were definitely digitally manipulated. it would have been nice if you said that they would be edited!
Thanks for watching Paul
I don't see anything that cannot be achieved in a traditional darkroom: dodging and burning.
Great video, you have a new follower (film enthusiast).
Stefano Ricciardi yes I agree. Thankyou
Shoot more film if you like it and you will learn to trust it. Don't be worried. Oh but buy a larger film change bag.
Thanks Terry I may need to.
You choose some nice terrain but it cries out for more than small format.
A film does slow you down because there are a limited number of exposures. Digital has no limits.
