The J always has an interesting sound when it passes by. The J has the oldest tracks in the system.
actually the 1,6 and 3 have the oldest
@@itzarex9996 the J/M elevated was built by the Brooklyn railroad company in the 1800's. These lines existed before the Williamsburg Bridge and required a ferry transfer to Manhattan. The 1 (oldest of the Bronx Els, the #4 being the newest), 3 and 6 were built by IRT/City as extension of it underground sections. This was the early 1900s.
I love the J M and Z lines. Flushing ave my station 🔥🔥🔥
@@bornjamerican52 great for you. My love affair is with the A 8th Express. Harlem USA.
I like the A is because when you get on the train, it moves fast. It doesn't always come when you need it though.
Meanwhile, the J particularly has improve over the years. But it is has a lot of slow points, because the infrastructure it runs on is very, very old. It is more dependable though running at average headway outside rush hours.
And Back in 1985, the J was notorious for using the R16s. The worse order of subway cars in nycta history. These trains would loose their acceleration at midpoint and becomes lemons at this point.
The M has always had an identity crisis. First the Brighton local, than the 4th avenue local and later the express and back local again.
After the crash it was cutback to chambers Street. Than eventually replaced the V as the new 6th Avenue local.
The service is generally OK. Nothing to really write home about.
They haven't been replaced?
I was the motorman in the clip from gregorygrice. It was my last run before I retired.
Really that's amazing. The Staten Island Railway seems like a fun branch to service, thank you for your service as well!!!
@@serenityrail I saw this comment on another video of a 5 Express train
ruclips.net/video/qUzQDTT7oew/видео.html it's on this video
Wow, how long have you been riding the rails?😀
The transit workers are The Best People Around who roll the big wheels abound. Coming to you from a railroad buff.
Love the horn salutes from some of the operators! Great video!👍👍
They seem to be traveling very fast, but the top speeds imposed by the signals system means a realistic top speed in the area of ~45 mph. (+/-) 5 mph.
MN, LIRR, NJT can approach speeds in excess of 70 mph (+/- 10 mph).
the realistic top speed is 55 mph. signals are updated on some lines such as the 7 / EFMR to allow those speeds
LIRR/MNRR top speed is 80mph.
Some NJTransit equipment are allowed 100mph on NEC only.
Nyc subway dosent go fast
I tell you those trains are scary at them speeds shaking side to side and it’s a thrill, the el train in philly we were on came into the 34 th to 30 th and bumped the station so hard we got off the train and waited for the next train
lol just came across this vid nd saw my clip at 3:02, i was 12 when i shot that i usually dont speak in my vids anymore if i ever get around to posting any. thx for featuring me cuh 🤞
Nah thank you my guy, I wouldn't have been able to put together this video without having this clip!!! Appreciate you🤝🙌🏾
If you take the A train from 59 st to 42 st, it always zooms down the track right before it enters the station, so you can get some pretty cool footage from across the platform
These trains are smokin!!!!!!!!!
Almost like watching "The taking of Pelham 1-2-3
😂😂I know right!!!
The first (1974) version of "The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 the was most exciting movie.
the 2009 movie sucked.
I loved the first runby with the R-32's roaring by! I'll miss riding those veterans of the fast track! Each rush hour train had its own style as it danced along the rail joints. The night scenes were cool with the third rail flashovers! My favorite tunnel spots are along the 8th Avenue line between 72 Street and 116 Street-Cathedral Parkway, the Fulton Avenue part of the A route between Hoyt Schmerhorn and Euclid Avenue, and the portion of the E and F trains that race through Queens. This video reminds me of that phrase the Road Warriors would scream before they entered the ring: "OOOOOHH WHAT A RUSH!!" Thanks for the compilation!!
Truly rapid transit. Awesome video.
You can't beat the B/Q Brighton line when it comes to speed and time to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
this was my line to get to John Dewey in the early 90s. the elevated tracks were amazing
2:10 Someone said " That's stupid "
Caught me off guard lol
It is nice that those subway trains are running fast again. The speeds were so high, I could barely read those numbers on the cars. The New York City subway is improving.
Yes finally, NYC Subway is starting to run faster and at full capacity. After the CBTC Is implemented on every line all will be grand!!!
@@serenityrail The installation of the Communication Based Train Control system throughout the 240+ mile rapid transit system is an "itchy" process. It will require several years before all 27 lines are equipped with the advanced signal systems. The Washington Metrorail could learn a lesson from MTA-New York City Transit. Thank you for typing or tapping to me.
IRT trains go faster than BMT/IND trains.
@@MatthewSmith-cv7op On the Eastern Parkway line, the northbound express track has lots of slow speed restrictions between Franklin Avenue-Medgar Evers College Station and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center Station, than on the 7 Avenue/Broadway; and Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue lines.
Older trackage.
They used to be faster before the Williamsburg Bridge Wreck in 1995.
Moved out of NYC in 2003, but back in the 80s and 90s, I would commute from downtown to Grand Central on the 4,5,6. My favorite "high speed" run was on the 4/5 between Grand Central and 14th Street/Union Square, viewed out the front window of the first car. Can you still do that these days? They used to really fly down that stretch. There was a derailment just north of 14th at the crossover back in the 90s I believe and because of that, they imposed a slower speed limit as you neared that crossover.
Now that all of the "Red Birds" have been all retired from all of the IRT Lines (since about 2003), you can't look out of the front window that easily anymore. The newer equipment has a full width cab that doesn't permit you to see the subway tunnel like the older trains allowed you to. Worst of all, much of the newer equipment has AC Propulsion Systems and makes this very annoying high pitched "screaming" sound.
The speed throttling happened after the Williamsburg Bridge collision in '95 iirc
As said above, you unfortunately cannot look out the front of the train anymore, but the 4 and 5 do rip up that stretch still. Northbound mostly, Southbound not too much.
Since 2004 No more front window viewing
The most amazing thing I noticed is that older "Not In Service" (R-44?) train speeding down those crooked - mangled-looking rails at 3:30 - seems a bit too dangerously close to derailing there. BTW, which station is that? It's a really beautiful and serene outdoor and green subway station!
The trucks that are used on the R-44 are designed to handle rough wreckage and the station is called Old Town. I thought the train would derail too
Also that is a Tottonville Express
@@serenityrail the trucks on all NYCT trains move like that. think of it as a suspension
Marta only bounces up and down
FYI nearly every single station on that line is surrounded by trees and is outdoors
some classic Staten Island railway action, not a subway though but nice to see it in this video.
I'm a train and I approve this video :D choo choo!
IRT trains go much faster than trains on BMT/IND trackage because of the track gauges. IRT built their lines based on speed. BMT/IND built theirs based on comfort.
Also, I find that least fast train on the B-Division lines is the R68. The R68A cars are faster the R68 cars. Long ago, the R38, R40 and R40M cars were the fastest trains in the New York City subway system. Both trains had excellent motor power. The next fast trains were the R32 and then the R42. The New York City Subway trains were made for speed.
I thought the R46 was slower. That’s why I call them the Tubbys of the subway.
@@MatthewSmith-cv7op You may be right. You are really "saying" something.
The entire subway system runs on standard gauge track.
@@8avexp Trains can’t run on each other’s tracks.
More on fast subway trains. Please. Thanks.
No problem, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!!!
Trains not fast enough. Lets do something about the signals and tracks
3 train coming from the Utica avenue train yard into the station, when your in the train jt moves crazy
They are subway trains in New York. However, they must slow down when it comes to turning into a new direction of the tracks.
Damn the r32 be zooming
3:17 that kid scream and 3:12
Why is the R179 on Brighton Line
Imagine surfers were on one of these trains 💀💀💀💀
suprised to see the r32 go zooming
Not gonna lie the J and Z on the express is fast but if u go to the 7th av lines those trains are fast (ride a 3 train from 96 to Chambers St-WTC and you'll know what subway speed is lol)
72 St to Times Square-42 St on a Red Rocket can reach 55mph.
Where is the "Old Town" station?
Located in Staten Island ( :
My favorite speed ways were Prospect Park to Atlantic Avenue and 59th Street to 125th...
Looks like Staten Island doesn’t have any signaling.
They do
@@serenityrail
at this stop were there signals though?
@@42luke93 wdym? There are cpl signals in the shot. On the Staten Island Railway there are signals at every interlocking.
@@christherailfan5851
So they are hidden and no traffic light 🚦?
@@42luke93 no they are trackside, and on Staten Island there are traffic lights on the roadways
The R train going from Queens Plaza to Lexington Ave goes the fastest in that tunnel
I agree
fast and furies🤣
I miss NYC #Subscribed 💯
3:13 5 times horn, 6:00 so many times horn.
There are three lines! 2 slow and 1 fast? Must limit fast service?
for the three lines it goes express in the morning towards Manhattan and for the afternoon express towards queens that's for the J/Z line
Infra looks old and crumpling. As of now India is doing gr8 job on public transport. It's really affordable. Almost 13 to 15 cities are ready with metro. Mumbai, kolkata gave class apart suburban railway system with ridership of 8 and 5 million per day respectively. Hope US will also make public transport cost effective for other cities like NYC subway.
I've seen your trains, they're cool, but dirty and smokey, people aren't to bright either crossing in front of a oncoming train.
3:16 Foamer
WHAT THE TRAIN 410
3:30 what the heck is up with that track 😭
I thought the same thing, like how do trains not derail here lol
I know right?! I thought that train was gonna fly off the track seeing all the slight warps from afar!
Its bc of the FOV when you actually see it, it ain't that bad
That's the "Hooterville Trolley", aka the Staten Island Railway, where every car has square wheels and goes to a different part of town..... Since Staten Island is mainly Italian, these are "Spaghetti Rails"....
I felt like I was watching the movie "The taking of Pelham 1-2-3", the way those trains flew by. Thanks for uploading this. It was amazing.
I’ve always wondered, is every car powered or are some cars unpowered trailers?
all are powered
because the sirr is definitely subway totally
Play it 2x to see how fast!! Like 100-125MPH
0:31 Da U makes its first and last appearance
AND 4:56
I posted a video
Makes no sense for J to run express between Marcy and Myrtle. Too few stops and need to switch tracks making it too hard to over take M in that part.
2:00/2:41
3:11 Wow
the J train was making a beat at around 2 mins
Quick question, why don't they go as fast underground
The speed limits
They do go as fast if not faster underground. In fact, the fastest stretch of track is the 60th St Tube where trains can reach speeds in excess of 60mph. Trains on the Lexington Avenue and Broadway IRT can reach speeds of 50mph on express sections approaching 50th St southbound or entering 59th St northbound. Filming these sections is less easy as you can't see way down the track.
nice
If you really want to see fast trains, just play this at 2X speed.😂
Thank you, these guys are so dunce, this is not all that fast as they make it to be.
Go back to train train and sit down and go go all the train and all the cars Ha Hah🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
?
2:01
3:13
3:46
6:00
Sheesh Staten island railroad needs NYCT track workers to fix that guage, shit was looking real shaky and scary
That nyc politicians' toy trains can go at all is a miracle, let alone really high speeds.
I always think if I could ever move to a borough in NYC it would be Staten, but then I remember just how in need of modernizing and repair their rail system is. At least it isn't LIRR?
Idk much abiut the Iirr is it worse than the subways, it seems comfortable
2 MTAs racing each other at 2:30!!!!
4:57 AIRPLANE
Not fast enough. Lets do something about those signals.
U train???!??
U train where sir???
I will post it on my discord server
The train is pretty fast and I don’t know why the R44
We’re going fast
408
Are you never get something🥵
3:49
The z is useless
30mph to 40mph is not fast I think the septa trains here in philly go faster bud
⁰
The Z sucks
