    For the coolant tank saying its low when it's not.. paccar has a bad design on the sensor float it uses a magnet. Sometimes it may get stuck you could try taping the sensor area lightly to get it unstuck and also carry a magnet and run it from bottom of sensor to up and it will normally pull it back into place.

      I've had that issue with my mx13. Went through a construction zone and had to ride on the rumble strips. Coolant light came on and didn't go off until they pressure washed the coolant res at the truck wash

      @timsharp804 2 года назад +3

      You can also try taking unplugging the sensor and take it out and clean it off and put it back in.
      For those who are unsure no coolant will leak out of the sensor hole.

    I was driving the same Pete but set up as a quad axle dump truck. Had the same issue with the coolant; I think it was the coolant sensor faulting on the tank. We had 4 of the same trucks and all of them have constant def issues. You need a guy that can delete it or it’ll be nothing but issues. If you idle kick it into hi idle, or else just turn it off.

    @jameslovitt994 2 года назад +8

    Coolant issue is a sensor issue with the coolant tank, the magnetic level part in the tank may be goofed up, necessitating a new tank (warranty)
    Loosing coolant might be from a hose in the frame on the right side (below the turbo) it's a bitch to get to, but it'll need a second clamp. (Factory only installs one, it needs to be double clamped) or at the very minimum, tightened up, it might be loose.

    • @Vintage1976
      @Vintage1976 2 года назад

      Yup, almost every new Cummins engine has that issue. Also, that line tends to leak only when the engine is cool after shutdown. When it's hot the line swells shut on the clamp.

So get ready for those as well. 🤬

    usually find that a water bottle without a max line then use the seam on the bottle as a maximum mark. anymore can lead to overfilling the coolant bottle and not allow for too much expansion, and cause over heating issues. nearly any other fluid like screen wash you can fill nearly to the brim, but when it comes to water and oil, both need to be a certain level Bruce.

    I’m loving the 389 Bruce, and I’m sure you have your reasons for getting it, but if I was in your position I woulda spent some money on the series 60 or bought a 379 with an N14/CAT coming from a tech who sees what these emissions systems cost to service

      I agree, of I were in Bruce's shoes, I'd say I would have gone for a N14 powered peterbilt, I've heard that those engines are VERY reliable, Same for the cat

      @@MaxtronusPrime_ yeah, pretty solid engine and parts are cheaper than 3406/C15s are. Just a cat fanboy myself but if you treat them right all of the above will last a long time

    Had to delete the def from my truck because it kept randomly saying there was no def and derating me to 5mph. It would snap out of it then derate again

    I’m so glad that crap wasn’t on my trucks when I was hauling Every time I see a new truck I feel bad for the owner that’s trying to make payment and feed the family.

    Please do pre trips every time you start your truck up as well as post trips. You should get acquainted with your truck and know where to fill coolant up at. Pre trips are an important part in trucking, plus you’d catch a lot of issues before you drive and after. Had you done a pre trip you would’ve known your coolant wasn’t leaking.
