Love the background on this review! Excellent review and keep changing up the background where you're tasting. I think going outside and reviewing bourbon is a natural! Good job Scott, cheers!
Thanks Bill, I really appreciate that, Cheers buddy and thanks for your comment and for watching.
I’m not your typical bourbon drinker in that my sinuses are pretty bad on a daily basis, and I can’t nose the things that most people do, I usually get whatever is the strongest of the several aromas that most people will get from a glencairn and ethanol if any. That and the fact that I don’t like bourbon neat. I basically just like drinking old fashions. I have recently been drinking bourbon with a 2” ice cube, I will drink that way and enjoy it but when it's in an old-fashioned IM like” Dam that’s tasty” hopefully I will get to have that reaction with only ice at some point down the road. now back to the Michter's Small Batch....This stuff is downright delicious in an old fashioned! and I will replace it every time the bottle goes empty. 🥃Cheers!
Their Small Batch is good, but I really think their best product is Michter's American. I know it's technically not a bourbon, but it's a great daily sipper.
Hey Michael, I agree the American whiskey is a really nice pour, one I like to sip on as well. Cheers and thanks for watching.
I like what you said about the strong vanilla, oak and caramels. I think the boldness you’re describing to me is what makes it a nice contrast to something like woodford in that price range!
Hey Jeremy, I couldn't agree with you more, great ballance and love the complexity. Cheers and thanks for watching.
I got a Winter Fresh chewing gum note on the nose on my first glass. Mixed with every thing you noted which i love!
Interesting with the spearmint note, I agree this for me is just a nice solid everyday kind of pour. Thanks for checking out the review and your comment. Cheers!
Nice review! The Michters core lineup are high quality, high flavor, and very viscus for lower proof pours. I like the Rye the best followed by the American Whiskey! Cheers!
They do a really nice job 👏
Great review, Scott! I've always wanted to try this one and it sounds like a great daily sipper with classic bourbon notes, nothing fancy but solid. Cheers brother!
Hey Richie I agree, this would an incredible bourbon for someone just getting into bourbon, all those classic bourbon notes. Cheers buddy and thanks for watching.
MY BOURBON JOURNEY It's probably one I need to buy at least once, Michters never puts out a bad bottle. Cheers buddy
I agree. This is indeed a great buy. I picked it up for $45 a month ago. I’d say it’s a steal at $35. I’d definitely pick up another bottle at that price. Thanks for the review. Cheers 🥃
Love it at $35
I just snagged a Michters small batch for 17.99 they had it marked wrong and was the same price as old grandad 100 proof so I snagged it up hadn’t had it before it’s fairly sweet compared to my four roses small batch 104 Iam used to but definitely a good daily supper for sure is it better than my four roses ehhgggh it’s close but I’ll say no but I’ll definitely keep it stocked in my home bar
Picked up a bottle this morning for $47. Might need to go back tomorrow and see if they still have one on the shelf.
It's a great everyday kind of bourbon for sure! Thanks for watching! Cheers 🥃
Who the hell dislikes this? Someone only drinking Miller Lite? Great channel - Subscribed 👍🏻
Thank you very much, appreciate you watching, commenting and Subscribing to the channel. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
@Uberschall JP probably the guy who enjoys drinking Fire Ball w/TaB diet soda from a pink can
Lol,
Lol
Surprised my self with Michter’s small batch…very good daily…right there with KC9, WR (DO] and OF1910.
I just got a bottle of this and had to find your video to see what flavors I could get from it 👍
Hope you're enjoying! It's such a great easy sipper and very approachable! It's an easy goto for sure. Appreciate you checking out the video! Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney you are correct on every point 👍
Thanks again!
One of my favorite daily sippers. Can't beat it for the price. Great review
Agree 100% thanks for watching cheers 🥃
Amazing location to film your video very cool!!
It's a cool little area for sure! Thanks for watching, Cheers 🥃
Scott, tried this bourbon and their American whiskey and preferred the American whiskey = more balanced to me. The bourbon was nice but others I prefer at that $45 price range. CHEERS!!
Hey DJ yeah i have heard that from others. I think i'll have to get a review done of the American Whiskey, Haven't had it in a bit so i'll be revisiting it. Cheers buddy and Thanks for watching and more importantly your support.
Great review (and amazing backdrop!) I think Michter's is a solid, if somewhat unspectacular bourbon. I really like the American Whiskey a bit more as it trends a little sweeter and richer for some reason. But the US*1 bourbon is a good pour to never turn your nose up to.
Thanks Bill, I too enjoy the American Whiskey. This is a nice solid every day kind of pour. Cheers and Thanks for watching.
I recently bought a square bottle of Woodenville port cask. Price $45 Washington bourbon. Heard it won bourbon of the year. I'm a Tennessee bourbon drinker so this was out of my wheel house.
I highly suggest you grab a bottle before they are gone. It's a rare run. And at that price it stand up to Belle meed cheery cask. No joking.
I know exactly what you're saying, I did a review of the port cask and it's a fantastic bourbon and I enjoy it as much as you do. Cheers buddy 🥃
Michters lineup is among the best for the price. I love their rye.
Hey Dude, couldn't agree with you more, Cheers and thanks for watching.
Where I live in Canada this one is $85. That's $20 more than Weller's Antique 107 and WT Rare Breed and the same price as Stagg Jr. (though that is very tough to find). I'd like to try it, but not sure the value is there - at least on the cold side of the border.
I'd pass on this at that price too, those others for me are a much better value in terms of what it is you're getting. I'm in your camp! Thanks Archery Talk for watching and commenting, Cheers!
@@mybourbonjourney Appreciate the content. Really wish we had more bourbon selection up here. There's so much I want to try. Hoping a few make there way up by the end of the year.
@@ArcheryTalkVideo thanks again, i hope a few show up for you too. Cheers!
It's very mild and smooth. Just bought my first bottle. The nose is very nice.
Hey Dan, agree it's an easy sipper that's for sure. Cheers buddy and thanks for watching and your comment.
Another awesome review!!! It must be really good cuz my Liqour store always out hahaha!!! Thanks again!!!
Hey Archie, Thank you very much I really appreciate that. It's a really nice every day kind of bourbon that offers a nice profile
I had not planned on buying this, but was at Total Wine and a guy there said it was his favorite under$50 and it was $43 so I thought I'd try it. it's a good pour, but not sure if I will buy it again. I need to blind taste it against some others
Blinds are always the best way to know if you truly appreciate and enjoy it. That will tell you if you're a buyer again or not. Cheers Joseph! 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney and even then, a bourbon that wins one day loses the next week. My tastes seem to vary from day to day. The ones that consistently lose I don't buy again, and the expensive ones that are 50/50 or less I don't buy again. (expensive to me is above $40 - I don't buy $50 bourbon. I am pretty cheap, and it took me a while before I'd spend $30!)
Exactly! At the end of the day you enjoy what you enjoy! Cheers 🥃
Great review.
It's 85 dollars in Ontario.
I am tempted to try it but I'm wondering is it much better than 4 reoses sb at 53 ? Or even Wtrb for 65 and kcsb is 60. That's a tough playing field. I have a feeling it's over priced here.
Hey Gary, thank you very very much. I'd say no. If you can get tbe other's for those prices I'd go in that direction, not sure I'd be willing to pay that kind of premium either. Thanks for watching and your comment! Cheers!
Just got a bottle....tonight! Cheers
Enjoy Frank! I'll be interested to hear your thoughts! Cheers 🥃
Thanks Scott! I bought a bottle based on you recommendationsl.
Hope you enjoy it! It's a nice easy sipping bourbon as you'll soon find out! Cheers 🥃
Planning in trying this as my first bourbon, seems like I'll definitely give it a try, I've had scotch from time to time and want to a decent bourbon
That's awesome! If you ever have any questions happy to help lead you in the right direction or answer any questions! Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney another question I have is, in your time whats the best bourbon for under 90usd
Tough question but would I say is start with some midshelf bourbkns such as the Four Roses Small Batch Select, fantastic bourbon. I'd also try the Old Forester 1920, great bourbon. Also some Knob Creek single barrels are great. Also try a Russell's Reserve Single Barrel and or A Wild Turkey Rare Breed. That should get you going in the right direction with some great bourbons. Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney thank you for the information, it's much appreciated, I'll try and remember to get all of these
Happy to help! Enjoy! 🥃
Thank you Scott 🤗
How would you compare this to the regular Makers Mark 46?
Here in Sweden they're about the same prize.
I'd definitely go with the Makers 46 especially if they are similar in price. Probably a little nicer flavor overall on the 46. Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney
Thank you Scott! 🤗
You got it! Enjoy 🥃
Unfortunately in Ontario the LCBO treats Michter's like it was BTAC. This is $90 Cad here so I have always passed on it. I have both the Rye and Bourbon 10's, multiple bottles of Rye BP and toasted Rye BP, even the Sour Mash Toasted. I have never purchased this one because of the meh reviews based on $40 US. Imagine $90 CAD.
Hey Peter I can appreciate that. I think it's a nice every day kind of pour and like the price point at $35. Cheers buddy and thanks for watching and your support.
I absolutely love this bourbon. Do you have a couple you would say are very comparable for sipping that I should maybe try?
If you enjoy a sweet easy sipping bourbon give the Old Forester 100 proof a try, its a fantastic bourbon for a great price. Also maybe a Knob Creek 9 year, another fantastic bourbon. Both great prices and easy to sip. Let me know if you have any other questions! Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney great, thanks!
Any time! Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney so I got the Knob Creek, jury is still out on that. Not sure if I need to let it breathe a little or what but it was def a lot more on the spicy side. They didn’t have any Old Forester 100, so may have to get it online. I did however pick up a George Dickel ‘05 Bottled in Bond on a whim, and it is fantastic. It’s got the sweet notes that I like but a ton of complexity on the backend. Have you had that one?
Some of those Dickel bottles can be good, really depends on the bottle and which release it is. I've also had ones I just couldn't get past that mineral or chalk note. Cheers buddy! 🥃
Awesome Scottie! This, like all Michter’s products, is very expensive here. We get the bourbon for about $95 CAD, so it’s always been a pass for me. Loving that backdrop buddy!
Wow, those are crazy prices. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it, Cheers!
$115 here in aus :(
Ouch, that's a bit pricey for sure! Thanks for watching and your comment, Cheers!
@@mybourbonjourney no worries thanks for the reply mate
Windy City yikes! That’s brutal. I’ve heard that the prices for bourbons in AUS are pretty crazy.
Great review, always interested in this bottle. After your video I was sold and it didn’t disappoint. Keep up the great content, you got a sub here.
Hey danram, thank you so much, glad to have you as a subscriber. I'm glad to hear you picked up the Michters, as a brand they do an incredible job. Cheers and thank you for watching and commenting.
woh; just came across this Gem of a video. where was this shot at? i love the location.
Its at a,park nit far from my house, I love the area too! Makes sipping whiskey and enjoying the scenery even better! Cheers buddy 🥃
You had me at like a fresh vanilla bean "..✌️
Cheers and thanks for watching 🥃
It's a good starter bourbon for beginners. Old fashioned likes will like this.
Yes sir, I sure is! Cheers 🥃
Spot on review. It’s worth a few extra $ to drink an enjoyable bourbon.
Thank you very much, and thank you for watching! Cheers 🥃
It is so darn good. Buy, Buy, Buy. Review is Spot On and Well Done!!👍
Agree and thank you very much for the kind words! Cheers 🥃
You really are a die-hard fan of michters
I enjoy this one, definitely a solid pour of whiskey for around the $35 dollar price range. I don’t think it offers anything over the top, just a good solid pour of bourbon. Great review Scott!! Cheers buddy!!🥃
Thanks buddy I agree, it's a nice every day pour and a nice price point. Cheers!
Eager to try some Michters soon!
Hey glavadog, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do once you try it. Cheers, thank you very much for watching and commenting!
i’m new to the bourbon game, why am I getting strong cherry notes? what could that note actually be?
Hey Juan, I think as you explore other channels you find it's a pretty awesome community. As for the cherry note, if that's what you get then that's what it is. You're never wrong and Nosing and tasting are subjective. Hope you enjoy your bourbon journey! Cheers 🥃
Let me know if you ever have any questions. Cheers 🥃
Great review Scott!!!
Thank you Anthony I really appreciate that, Cheers buddy and thank you for watching.
You mention the color of this bourbon as a sign of its age. I can’t find any disclosure anywhere including Michters site regarding the use of E150a caramel color. I highly suspect they use it so we shouldn’t be fooled into thinking it’s as old as it looks.
My law, with it labeled as Bourbon you can not add color so whatever the color is that's 100% what the barrel did. Generally speaking not very much American Whiskey has any color added unlike the Scotch world. Cheers 🥃
@@mybourbonjourneythat’s good to know. I’m new to bourbon as have been a scotch guy. I’m just starting my bourbon journey.
Glad to have you part of the journey! Happy to help or answer any questions you may have. Cheers! 🥃
@@mybourbonjourney thank you. I will take you up on that😀
You got it! Anytime 🥃
Small batch is very good.
How would you compare Elijah Craig with this? (Small batch %47)
Somewhat comparable, I'd say there is actually a bit more sweetness on the Michter's and a little more spice with the Elijah Craig however its sweet also. Both drink very well it just depends on what it is you're looking for in your bourbon. Hope that helps a little. Cheers!
@@mybourbonjourney thanks! That is about as much as i could hope for in an answer, ill have to give the michters a go next time. Slainte!
@@mybourbonjourney EC small batch is $50 in Ontario and Michter's is $90
Holy cow I'd probably stick with 2 EC vs 1 michters
Good review, but OMG that is a $90 touch here in Canada
Ouch.... I've heard that about Michter's in Canada being a little on the pricey side, probably at that price I'd look elsewhere. Thanks for watching and your comment! Cheers!
Nice review, Scott! Surprisingly, I have yet to try any Michter's, but this one and their unblended American Whiskey are the ones I hear about. Love the backdrop, too! I actually got around to creating my youtube channel, so if you have time and want to check it out, I'd appreciate it. First vid is up so any constructive criticism is welcome, too. :) Cheers!
this one is next for me.
Really nice everyday bourbon if you ask me. Think it gets a little Underrated because of the lower proof but I think it punches about its proof and really offers a lot. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting!
Michters holds a lot of flavor but not enough punch
Hey Neil, it's a nice daily sipper when you don't necessarily want the big high proof bourbons. For just over 90 proof it's a nice everyday kind of bourbon with a nice standard bourbon profile. Cheers and thanks for watching.
This is a 100$ bottle in Canada lol. One of the more expensive bourbons at my stores.
Not sure I'd be willing to pay that much! A bit on the pricey side. Cheers
$35 at Sam's club, tasty
Good price and agree, very tasty! Cheers and thanks for watching and your comment! 🥃
honey butter? uh huh...
This is crazy!!!! Who doesn't like honey butter? Don't tell me you don't know what honey butter is? C'mon
Who is sipping daily? That's alot of drinking.
More of a reference than anything, not suggesting you necessarily drink everyday, as always, everything in moderation. Cheers 🥃
Sniffing scene was too much for me
Lol, sniffing scene. You made my night with that comment, Cheers Leo!
