Great video, I shoot this ground and the clays off the high tower are challenging, especially for an inexperienced shooter (like myself). Great advice and tips for hitting these clays. Thanks

dave excellent video has usual .the problem i got is i just loose it on the peg i go to pieces any tips i seem to be more worried what every one else is thinking about my shooting .i that fed up i thinking of packing in .on the clay ground i fine
just focus on the bird, they will be all missing as well, it doesnt bother me, i miss just the same as anyone else - but not as much
Great video! What I would really like to see is a video of a lesson in the field. A fair shot looking to improve, with good camera angles to demonstrate both when and where the client is missing and also the hits. I think many mistakes we all make are mirrored by a lot of other people and I think this would be really beneficial in a video. it is something that I have never seen before on youtube and really think it would go down well. It's fantastic seeing people smashing clays and hitting birds every time but its harder to learn from in my eyes. H
you are right of course - its something we are working on to help people in the field

mine are usually fixed or teague 3/4 and full

Good insight to the ''holy grail''.Fibre/Wool wad cartridges I take it ? Not looking to start a debate on the why's and where fore's just a requirement on many shoots theses days.Not a personal preference but when needs must and all that.

thanks for the nice word, yes it is a MK38 grade 5 but with the MK60 barrels on

on clays i try to get out at least once a week but no more than that really, game shooting will be at least once or twice a week throughout the game season, thanks for your nice comments Allan!!
How much lead do you place in front of the bird at those distances ? Thanks
its always a split second delivery at the very last moment, i think instinct kicks in and does the work, some people say i seem to have a little final flick on the gun, i think speed of gun and bird is a big thing as well, you have to be a good judge on distance as well as speed this ultimately determines lead put on, i have seen high birds that want very little lead, yet you get the same height and a bird screwing down wants loads

Thanks Dave, what chokes do you shoot in that gun, that plays a big part in that kind of distance? Also been a long time since I shot a high tower. Seems I remember the lead being close to a small school bus for a crosser. Those were some long shots. Excellent shooting!

Dave, brilliant video, and I agree with everything you say. But I must add an element into this “the brain”. A very complex computer that can do many calculations in nano seconds. Let me explain, on a clay trap you know when & where the bird will appear. In the field the bird can come from any height, angle, speed and direction. Your brain uses your eyes to interpret this information very quickly, Ie, where to place your feet, where you want to start your swing, the amount of lead, and most importantly when you pull that trigger. One last thing you need to have, what I call a natural eye. Agree we can all get better with practice, but only a few of us will ever reach the top.

We shoot park lodge 1/4 1/2 choke does about everything, they say 24 gram cartridges will take everything there?..
i've no doubt you will hit most clays round the tower with that combination, but if you know Parklodge - then if you look over the field at the stack of bales near the Hedgerow - that is where i was shooting some of them from!!

Mike - apologies some one watching me shoot the tower gave me a side by side to have a feel and look but i didn't fancy shooting long crossers with it, i could not see over the barrels

Nice video but your gun safety is not good enough. 4:55 for example. Gun should be broken!
