Idk if the zoo's guests are actually being scammed as the zoo is quite transparent about it, and labelled the exhibit "panda dogs", which the guests paid to see. People online find it very cute. Some have argued that dying their fur could lead to skin infection for these dogs.
I've read somewhere that even though people are disappointed it's not real panda and there's some backlash from the public, the zoo will not face legal trouble because in their poster, they already told that they show "panda dogs" and not panda. It just people who disappointed not properly read or misunderstood the message.

The fake artefact industry is rife, but what’s cool or interesting about it to me outside of problematic misrepresentation is that a lot of the “fakes” are objects made by incredible artisans reproducing work in the ancient style of making, which is preservation of culture and its production in some way. Even during the Han dynasty there were reproductions being produced, there’s sinister faking, like the tofu, and then there’s a continuation of cultural production, like the coins. Dealers of ancient artifacts expect the buyer to be knowledgeable, and if they’re not, too bad. This approach isn’t honest, but a dealer once told me that an honest art dealer is an oxymoron 😂 I kind of respect the system of reproduction of ancient objects because even though they can be used to misrepresent, many of the fakes reveal incredibly skilled artists.

The fake coins are basically just for the "hey look Chinese money that's cool!" Factor.
I mean, if they are sold as souvenirs only idiots would think they are actual artifacts. There's replicas of this sorts in many countries with historical sites and they are simply souvenirs, it's not a China-exclusive thing.
It’s a bit of a no brainer that they’re faked but they’re really cool replicas of ancient coins. The fake artefact industry is rife, but what’s cool or interesting about it to me outside of problematic misrepresentation is that a lot of the “fakes” are objects made by incredible artisans reproducing work in the ancient style of making, which is preservation of culture and its production in some way. Even during the Han dynasty there were reproductions being produced, there’s sinister faking, like the tofu, and then there’s a continuation of cultural production, like the coins. Dealers of ancient artifacts expect the buyer to be knowledgeable, and if they’re not, too bad. This approach isn’t honest, but a dealer once told me that an honest art dealer is an oxymoron 😂 I kind of respect the system of reproduction of ancient objects because even though they can be used to misrepresent, many of the fakes reveal incredibly skilled artists.
The only issue is that they sell them at a price as if it were real. When they should, be cheaper bc they're not.
