I recognize the KB&S Railroad, from an article in Railfan and Railroad Magazine way back sometime in the late late 1980's. One of the comments the founder of the KB&S told one that (something like)"I would like to see you try and run a railroad!"

Shortlines are the best. They always hold on to locomotives, horns, and rolling stock that has been phased out of larger railroads.

As a huge shortline fan, this was very entertaining. Well done!

Here is what I think: There should be Lots more Short lines in the US.
Why? So that there can be a balance between the Larger Class 1’s and the smaller Class 2’s & Class 3’s.
Lots of railroad lines were ripped up by the Big 6 (UP, BNSF, CSX, NS, CN, and CPKC) all because of PSR.
Well, those railroad lines that the Class 1’s see as “Unnecessary Cost’s” could have been given to smaller Emerging Class 2 & Class 3 Railroad companies for them to pay for and operate while the Big Class 1’s could focus on their Mainline tracks.
My Idea is to take one of the Ideas of PSR, and that is cutting out unnecessary costs, and changing it up. The idea is that Class 1’s should distribute the costs they don’t want amongst lots more smaller groups and distributing the cost evenly. Their by making a system where any unwanted Railroad Personnel, Equipment, and Track that the Big Class 1 companies don’t want to utilize and pay for could be distributed to Class 2’s and Class 3’s and thereby help the Class 2’s and Class 3’s grow and develop, creating new jobs for people and giving the Class 2’s & 3’s the Personnel, Rails, and Equipment to make more profits and to make the railroads a more viable alternative than trucks.
In short, it’s taking the railroad lines, workers, and equipment the Class 1’s don’t want, and giving them to the Class 2’s and Class 3’s so they can utilize them to make profits.
