However, based on past experiences, during bull runs, defensive stocks tend not to perform so great and typically show good growth during challenging times. Considering the current situation, I believe we are entering a bull run, and growth stocks are likely to outperform defensive stocks. ITC is more of a defensive stock.

Why is ITC not behaving as per the fundamentals? ITC is giving out all the profits from cigrette as dividends. Imagine how can a company give out all its profits when it gets demerged. Moreover hotel business is the one that was sucking capital and tge rest will shine. The market negativity is due to the demerger of the Hotel business, this will bring down the price by 12-20 as per the SOTP valuation. Considering purely capital allocation basis this is awesome to say. One way we can attribute this fall to the boom in the hospitality sector is that the situation is right for a demerger. It is a catch 22 situation, since it is a good situation, it can run on its own also if it is doing well why don't we keep it? Why 40% will stay, this is to maintain the synergy between the ITC chef (FMCG) and hotel business. Also the money that went into hotels will now be entering FMCG or advertising or in many other ways to profit the existing business. Since the ROCE is nearing 40% with the hotel business, without the hotel business the ROCE will stay upwards to 40%. Retaining the profiting factor, maintaining the synergy, also having the cash to improve the existing business, improving ROCE. WHat more than this we can ask for. 420-430 can be a buying range with a conservative approach. Hope the market understands this and rewards the recent buyers.
