    Hey buddy! Awesome, awesome tutorial on the modularity and accuracy gains through the multiple Ways of tunning this Awesome moderator/air stripper system! As we enter into the high power world of slugs and long distance shooting, harmonics and post muzzle air management becomes exponentially more important and is the final equation to accuracy... extremely well done PJ! 😎

    I would say the first priority of using a moderator is to reduce sound. With these new moderators you may be able to get away with leaving out a section to get better harmonics but to me that is not ideal. Where for me the harmonics come into play for accuracy is with shooting slugs at higher power. For pellets different moderator weights and types has not made as much difference unless you have a long untensioned shroud with a heavy moderator on. I tend to use the FX tuner shrouds and tuners on my airguns to get the best accuracy for slugs and they always shoot pellets well too. I do not have any tensioned barrel systems and have found in general shorter barrels can handle heavier moderators and long barrels tend to need lighter moderators when using the FX tuners to avoid excessive barrel whipping. What I would like to see come to market is a moderator with a built in tuner. Then you can have the full benefit of the moderator sound suppression. I do appreciate your videos.

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  Год назад

      I agree.
      I’ve used prototype tuning moderators and with the right airgun, they are the premier barrel tuning tool. I’m not sure you’ll see one hit the market anytime soon.
      Barrel system design definitely matters when it comes to how much a length or weight change of the system impacts precision, and there are definitely barrels that get too whippy when anything more than a Tatsu gets attached.

      @@WiscAirGunners Thanks for the reply. The FX tuners like I said really did have an dramatic effect on shrinking slug group sizes. What I did not like about them was they did not have a quality durable finish. Also the threading on them was not consistent on the ones I owned and at times making them hard to adjust.

      I agree. You have approached this in a very scientific manner providing objective data. There is always going to be a degree of subjectivity in this area of sound perception. I would personally like to see some big bore testing with the Yokozuna comparable to this testing with the Ryu. I have seen that the DonnyFL site has no moderators currently listed. What is your take of the federal government stepping in to accessory ban screw on barrel moderators? Thank you.

      @@WiscAirGunners I wholeheartedly agree with you. All it's going to take is for someone to screw on a moderator with metal internal cones, partitions, or mechanisms onto a real firearm. Many can just screw onto a real firearm. It is not a ban against pellet guns, but if that part could be illegally used on a firearm without a license. It's the few knuckleheads that will ruin it for the majority of responsible PCP owners.

    As I've send before, I really enjoy your work. You are easy to understand (audio-wise) and don't "rush things. So I have a RAW Micro in .22 and I love it with 15.89 JSB at 790 fps and 22 ft pounds. I( am a real "fan" DonnyFL and have a Ronin (for my Panthera 600mm in .22), a Yokozuna in .22 on my FX Hunter Compact in .22 and Ryu on my RAW Micro in .22. So, if I am not mistaken, you ented up with Ryu and 2 baffles in RAW Micro in .177 (.22 cal Ryu). So does that imply that the most accurate configuration on my Micro is 2 baffles inasmuch as my RAW Micro is .22 ? I have FX Panthera Hunter in .22, Brocock/Brk Atomic XR in .22 and RAW Micro in .22. Each is very accurate but my overall favorite is the RAW Micro in .22 for accuracy and build quality. I made no changes out of the box with my Micro and it was perfection in all respects as it came out of the box, no changes to anything, using the 15.89 JSB pellet. I have never had that out of the box experience with anything other than the RAW Micro. I usually have to spend 1 day and hundreds of pellets to tune my other PCPs. I am looking into putting a 24" RAW .22 cal barrel on my Micro for versatility. I am waiting for a response from RAW. Your thoughts on this? Again, thanks for your great videos.

    • @WiscAirGunners
      @WiscAirGunners  13 дней назад

      First, thank you.
      Second, I'm not convinced that my results with this airgun/moderator combo will extend to other calibers of the same airgun. I'd like to think it's a good starting point. If you have a .22 I'd use a .25 Ryu.
      Third, a new barrel, especially switching from a shrouded barrel with it's own stripper to a "plain" barrel is a different animal entirely and I have no data on how that would work out.
      Fourth, RAW puts a lot of work into each airgun before they go out. I think you are seeign the results of that care.

    I know it would be really hard to edit but would you be able to do the noise comparisons without the sound of the impact, cut the play back a frame or 2 before the pellet hitting where it's going
    Alternatively you could do the sound test in a field with no impact noise just the sound of the gun sending the lead ?

      You will see some of the anodizing flake off. It is a byproduct of the friction fit design, and it will not effect the performance of the unit. When the DonnyFL team experimented with different coatings (and uncoated) we found that there needed to be a snug fit or the unit would work loose when shooting. Every Ryu and Yokozuna is test fit before it leaves during final assembly, and the jig we use gets hundreds of installs before it is replaced. I've used those on my personal rifle and they still function properly, though they aren't as pretty as a new one. The corners wear down a bit, but the actual bearing surface (the part that matters) stays flat and true.

      This is what I would say. With a bigger caliber, or an airgun that doesn’t already have an airstriper in the shroud, more baffles will make more of a difference.
      I have tested this on numerous airguns, and there are definitely some where having all three baffles Installed is definitely quieter than just two.
      I was just shooting an AirForce Escape in .25…the difference between 2 and 3 baffles is noticeable. That’s with the Yokozuna.
      On the Micro Hunter, in .177, it’s not uncomfortable to shoot without a moderator. As I have it set up with two baffles, it’s so quiet it sounds broken from just a couple yards away.
