    Written by Daniel Joseph Moore, who also wrote "My Maria," hits for B.W. Stevenson and Brooks & Dunn, the title refers to the mythical kingdom that lies hidden in The Himalayas, where universal peace and contentment reign. Moore wrote songs recorded by everyone from Joe Cocker to Bonnie Raitt to Toby Keith to Maria Muldaur to The Band and many others. Cory Wells sings lead on this track. Thanks Bennett and Harri.

      The KINKS 1969 album ARTHUR AND THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE has a song called SHANG RI LA which is basically about what you just described the mythical kingdom in the Himalayas called Shang ri la.
      Confused now!

    • @John_Chu
      @John_Chu Год назад +1

      @@johnkayak5488 While Shambala is a mythological place referred to in Tibetan Buddhist texts, Shangri-La is a fictional locale in Asia's Kunlun Mountains described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton. Lost Horizon was turned into a film twice, in 1937 and in 1973. The novel and films were so popular that Shangri-La became a standard reference when talking about a utopian place or concept.

      @@John_Chu Wow! Another highly informative comment from you, my sincerest gratitude for that.
      This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve come across one of your comments and found it to be very informative and insightful.. I believe it was a Steely Dan song, and I believe it was on a completely different reaction channel if I’m not mistaken.
      It seems like it would be a pretty high probability that you’re college educated, and I get the impression that you may be either one or a combination of a Literature or History major, and perhaps music theory and composition might fit in there somewhere?
      I would be absolutely stunned if you were self taught without a degree, as your diction reminds me of a friend who was a Joycean scholar and Classical Composition major.

    Shambala: A mythical, mystic sacred realm in Tibetan Buddhism. Also known as Shangri-La, it is a mythical city featured in Among Thieves. It has a nearly tropical climate despite its hidden location within the Himalayas, and contains the largely dilapidated ruins of a past civilization.

      The verse "How does the light shine.. in the halls of Shambala?" Refers to the central sun located in the heart the earth, which, according to legend lights the inner earth. See "Hollow Earth Theory"...

      @jeffdickerson9482 Год назад

      By the way.. again, according to ancient legend.. Somewhere within the region of the Himalayas lies the entry into the the mystical land of Shambala, deep within the earth. But also there are said to be several entry points into the Hollow Earth at different locations, continents, etc.
      Central America, for example..

You've done quite a few of their songs already. Lots more to choose from such as "One" (written by Harry Nilsson), "An Old Fashioned Love Song", "Joy To The World", "Liar", "Never Been To Spain", "Easy To Be Hard", "The Show Must Go On" etc.

    I've always been amazed that Floyd Sneed isn't given his due as a fantastic drummer. If you pay attention to what he's doing you'll often find him playing a verse slightly different than he did the first time it came along. Hardly noticeable, but unforgettable once you start listening for these little fillips. And he was highly thought of by his bandmates, who were amazed by his ability to add things to the song without resorting to overdubs - what you hear from Floyd is always live. Amazing drummer, and I'm tickled that you noticed the cowbell, which is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

    Shambhala, according to Buddhist tradition, is a mythical kingdom that is said to exist somewhere between the Himalaya Mountains and the Gobi Desert. In Shambhala, all of the citizens have achieved enlightenment, so it is the embodiment of Tibetan Buddhist perfection. This legend inspired the 1933 novel “Lost Horizon,” by English writer James Hilton, who modified the name of the place to "Shangri-La." The novel later became the basis for the 1937 feature film of the same name, directed by Frank Capra.

    The early to the mid 1970's were a time when open spirituality or even religious beliefs were still prevalent in rock and pop music. Remember "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" were super popular with the masses. George Harrison, Norman Greenbaum, Kris Kristofferson and others wrote songs with overtly spiritual messages. Today, of course, religious and spiritual messages are much less common in mainstream music.
