Elvis Presley was the most beautiful, most talented, most noble, most charismatic, most empathetic man this planet has ever known! Elvis brought love, beauty and harmony to this world... Elvis loved people and never avoided them. Those who attended Elvis’s concerts, those who talked to him near his house, know about this. He was very attentive and gave his love, his warmth. Whoever saw this will never forget it. You can even look at the concert recordings to see how Elvis interacted with people and how much warmth he gave to people. He would be generous in everything. You probably don't fully understand how Elvis made people feel and why he couldn't move around freely. No one has ever had such an impact on people in modern history as Elvis. This is a magical man... Muhammad Ali is simply a good athlete, but boxing is not something that brings harmony to the life of humanity, unlike music. The world can and must, one day, live without a destructive phenomenon like boxing, without destruction, without wars, in order to survive, develop and live, but without Music the world will be doomed to rapid destruction. It doesn’t matter who walked around Memphis and how, what matters is WHAT these two different people brought into this world. I choose Elvis. Forever. ❤

He was too famous Dave!! The biggest superstar in the world. There was a reason why he had to hire the theatre in Memphis just to watch a movie and eat popcorn in peace! My goodness, even in 1977 he was still singing to capacity audiences. He was Elvis!⚡
Elvis was other-wordly. It's that simple. When he was in a room, he commanded it. His mannerisms, his looks, there was nothing about him that was "normal". He was extraordinary.

Tom Jones told a similar story that he told Elvis if he acted normal, people would treat him as so. Tom has always been known to just sit in a pub like it's his day off work and knows how to say 'no not today'. I think Elvis would find saying no more difficult. He was a giver, had an air of vulnerability and approachability which meant he would be troubled more on a personal level. Kind people are magnets. He was the most genuine of stars and gave much personal time to his fans but often felt obliged to them. With a personality like his, he needed a self-induced barrier. The reasons you give are sound. Elvis was a sex symbol and more likely to be attacked by other men. The mystique did him no harm but I do not think it was deliberate because, we know, he was very down to earth and a man of the people.
So, I think the fans are most responsible for his seclusion. It may have been necessity, and it was also hard for the fans to understand what was going on. Since Elvis was so secluded, if he ever came out, it was a mob story. If he came out regular after fans. Saw him a few times. It would probably just stop and watch like we see in this video.
@@ElvisistheMan_ It's funny, the way some Elvis fans are reacting to the Ali footage showing him walking around in Memphis. Saying that Elvis was "Too famous" and he'd be mobbed. LOL! As if Ali wasn't famous? The difference with Ali was WHY he was famous. As a champion boxer who could well take care of himself, if "Threatened" in public. May not be popular to say this, but think that the mindset of many Elvis fans, putting him up on a pedestal, saying basically he could do no wrong, and blaming others but himself for his personal problems, led indirectly to his early premature death. A few years back, the Spa Guy did a story of two sisters who were obsessive Elvis fans. At some point in (I think) the mid 1960s, they cornered Priscilla on the outskirts of Graceland, and got into a fight with her, telling Priscilla to leave Elvis alone, he's ours! Elvis had to come out and break up the fight. He told them to never bother Priscilla again. Did that keep the sisters from obsessing over Elvis? No. During the taping of his 1968 Special, both can be seen in the audience, watching Elvis perform during his leather jacket segments, with Scottie, D.J. and Charlie.
Elvis acted more normal than Tom Jones ever did. Marty Lacker once said before his death that Jones overexaggerated his friendship with Elvis and what he knew about Elvis. When he was still living, Elvis would go down to the Graceland gates and talk to his fans. He also did that in Beverly Hills. Elvis was safe behind his gates but he could chat with his fans and it made his fans' day that he would take time out of his life to talk to them.

I don't know, Elvis rode his motorcycle all over Memphis. The fans in Memphis respected Elvis and loved him as well. Elvis got around when he wanted to.
There are quite a few photos of Elvis riding his motorcycle around Memphis, with and without a girl on the back. If people in cars pulled up beside him they would call out and he would smile at them. Documented in several books.
This would be a good question for his cousin Billy & Jo Smith....They would have an answer for sure 😊
We do know one thing he used to ride around Memphis all the time he was always giving homeless people money a lot of people don't know this stuff but yeah he's to ride around Memphis all the time on his motorcycle his cars it didn't matter he's right around Memphis
Yes he did. He spent his free time doing good as usual. Speaking to someone walking the sidewalk, giving them money. Billy Stanley (think that's his name?) Said.. Elvis said: "Billy, grab my wallet, we're going for a drive." Elvis stopped next to a man, asked him a few questions, and handed that man all the money in his wallet (lots of it). This made Elvis happy, and I know God smiled down on his special son Elvis.

His seculsion began very early in his career. He did it so much, it became a habit for him. I think he should have forced himself to go out more, and mingle with the people, expecially in his home town of Memphis. In time people would have gotten used to seeing him, and would have given him his space. I think he may have been happier if he had, but I also feel he found it daunting to do so.

Elvis could’ve gotten away with it if he were more discreet and not so obvious by dressing like he always did. Linda Thompson once said, “you know, you could experience a lot more normalcy if he would just tone it down. You could dress down and wear ‘John Doe’ clothes.” She said his response was, “it doesn’t matter what i wear. When I go out, people are gonna know who i am, and I don’t want to disappoint them.”

That’s true. Elvis always had to be “Elvis“ but I also think that’s how he was. He wanted to be flashy and look his best.
@@ElvisistheMan_ in the 60s he could’ve gotten away with it because he was not dressing as flashy as he was by ‘69 or ‘70 with the high collars and puff sleeves. Supposedly, when he was at NBC for rehearsal in June 1968, he walked out on Sunset and barely got noticed. Also, when he was filming “Live A Little, Love A Little” in LA, he & Rudy Vallee were apparently outside, & Elvis was practically knocked to the pavement by several old women rushing to meet & get Rudy Vallee’s autograph.
It never happened. Rudy Valee was 70 years old. There is no way they could have ignored Elvis.
@@aloisiofilgueirasjr8850 not everyone was an Elvis fan. These women were Rudy Vallee’s age as well & were fans back in the 1920s & 30s when he was in his heyday. It was also a much older audience that didn’t respond well to Elvis when he performed at the Frontier Hotel in 1956, resulting in the contract with the hotel being terminated.

Elvis was the first mega super star. The public didn't know how to treat someone at that level. Today it would be very different.
Definitely food for thought. Jackie Gleason realized after watching Elvis on his summer replacement shows with the Dorsey Brothers, that Elvus was going to be a big star. His advice to the young Elvis was, don't hide, walk the streets be a part of everything or you'll be an unhappy man or words to that effect. Well for whatever reason it didn't happen that way and Gleason was right. Sad
That’s right! I should’ve mentioned that in this video, but Elvis didn’t take his advice. The question is what you been able to do it or was it not even possible for a star like Elvis?
@@ElvisistheMan_ not really sure, he walked around in Paris. Maybe if he did it regularly with protection, fans might have gotten used to it. I think living by night and sleeping during the day became a habit and way of life for Elvis, especially in the Vegas years. It might be a good question for Jerry Schilling or Billy Smith. You pose an interesting question though.

I am a hardcore Elvis-Fan, but that just isn`t true. Muhammad Ali was a very handsome man and women adored him. He had the Elvis-Vibe by nature and was very charming and a superb communicator. Sure he wasn`t defined as a Sexsymbol like Elvis, but the Dude was magnificient looking and very loveable inside out.

I met M A in Memphis, a very nice person and a friend to Elvis. No crowd actually formed. Elvis was totally different, he was a super star, bigger that anyone could imagine. Nobody would have wanted to hurt him but it would get out of hand fast. He drew a huge crowd fast. He did sneak out of Graceland a few times and thankfully they found him quickly.
Probably because of his popularity just in that one city and for his safety! ❤
Personally I thinķ Èlvis was just so beautiful and a very great entertainer that people were so involved in his music. He was just so goòd looking during his time and legacy. I also think it is touring and scheduling with the drugs plus fans obsession with him contributèd to his ability to not be able to bè sèen walking out in public . At one point before they did the 68 special- they went down on the street and people walked by and no one noticed him - he even spoke loudly but nothing happened- they went back to the upstairs office to talk about the special

I lived in Memphis while Elvis was alive and he got around in Memphis, it he couldn’t stay still very long or there would be a mass of people gathered. Amazing how news got out before cell phones or the internet
Elvis tried to go to the fair with the woman from Sun records and they tried to be normal but when he won her a stuffed animal, a fan would snatch it. Then the crowd got so big they were being crushed and Marion got so scared she asked Elvis to leave. They had to sneak through the back. Marion told Elvis she was sorry but she never could do it together. In some instances possibly. Other times he was too famous and easily recognizable and it must have been exhausting to keep up that pace always battling with the fans but also loving them and would always felt he had to give them autographs, pictures etc. 😊😮😮❤❤🎸🕺🏻🎸🕺🏻🎤🎤

I don't think so, because Linda tells when they tried to go shopping and when they got out of their car, they were recognized and they had to run back to the car. That was in Memphis.

The whole Mystic about the Life of Elvis Presley is that it was both: Insanely successful and fullfilling and all his Dreams became true. HE was the living example that it was possible for someone from a poor Background to become EVERYTHING you want to be, if you work hard and stay humble.
He was the American Dream in Persona.
He was happy most of the time. A positive Dude with endless energy. And on the other hand his Life is just a heartbreaking Tragedy because i think NO ONE even thought that he was able to die...Some still don`t believe he did. He was prayed on and loved so much...maybe too much. As a Musician i can say that his level of success was just insane. It is not possible to understand, even if you watch all the Elvis-Videos on RUclips that are available - or read all the books about him.
He was problably the most blessed Star of this World and the most tragic ending in Music-History, besides all the other Greats from the Age 27 Group, like Amy, Jim Morrison, Janis and Jimmie Hendirix and others.@@ElvisistheMan_

Exactly! Well said, Richard. When I saw him in concert, the effect of his singing on the audience was unbelievable. He could make them cry with his soulful voice singing sad songs, then with a rock song they would be bouncing and clapping.

The Way Elvis was treated was a true sign of where he was. If he’d walked down any street (NOT Times Square) in Manhattan, the locals would NEVER have bothered him, only tourists, as we knew to give celebrities their privacy - same in restaurants, etc., as Manhattan is/was filled with celebs who live there, walk the streets every day. No wonder EP escaped!!!
I remember in’74 when I went to see him in concert, we parked and started walking around the coliseum looking for where he would come in and the door where his car would drive in, there were tons of cops! And, of course, we were told: Elvis isn’t coming through this door so y’all need to move on. I told my mother let’s walk around a few minutes and just see! Sure enough a few minutes before we should have already been in our seats, here comes a car with black windows and the cops wouldn’t let Anyone close to it, but you know, that wasn’t Elvis…that’s what they kept saying! Yeah, right!! But it was and we couldn’t even get Anywhere Near!!!

Ali was a famous boxer. So I don’t think fans would mob him like some did Elvis to the point of ripping his shirt rate off his back literally and he had to run. It scared him to death and rightly so.

I think that Elvis himself proofed that he could go out, like he did when he was (with Jerry I think) leaving Graceland after that discussion with Priscilla and his Dad, taking a Commercial flight, heading for D.C. And before, as you mentioned, Steve Binder took him to the streets just to proofe to him that he could go out. So there was 2 situations when he did it. Once he was leaving because of a short immediate reaction, the other time to see if it works. But after that, anyone around him told him that he could not do that, so I think he start to believe that. I also think that he prefered to be around his entourage. But at the same time he was very well aware that this lifestyle was not good for him - on the contrary. I strongly believe that he should do that and also that he could do go outside like a normal person. He was listening to his Manager, hus Dad, the security's etc. But for sure, if he really tryed it he could live another life... He should listen to Ali's advice and just do it, again and again...
There are plenty of photos of Elvis riding his motorcycle, driving his car and getting in and out of said vehicles. After the movie years it's possible people didn't expect to see him standing on the street but once it became known it was Elvis out there the crowd would grow. He was recognizable even if he had worn jeans and a tshirt. Besides what's so wonderful about walking the streets?

Yes, a very thought-provoking video. I have never seen the film of Mohammed Ali. I think all of the points made before mine are valid. I agree that Tom Parker had a lot to do with Elvis' paranoia. I also believe that Elvis was really shy (off stage) and may have been intimidated by people he didn't know and believed what he was being told by Parker and others that people were out to do him harm if he was by himself. I cannot even fathom acting in the way the fans (girls) did when he first became famous all the way until his passing.. You know, he had a real charisma that film and photos cannot hide, but that charisma was not a license to mob the man! Memphis is a beautiful city with really lovely people and I would hope that if he had decided to take Ali's advice, he would have found the people there would have given him the respect and love to live a more "normal" life. I think if he would have given Memphis a chance and not believed all he was being fed, they would have honored him greatly.
Paranoia is also a symptom of drug abuse, the longer you abuse drugs the worse it gets.

Elvis’ life was certainly abnormal. He slept during the day and was awake all night. If Elvis had walked the streets of Memphis he would have been surrounded by mobs of people. Not wanting to hurt him rather hoping for a handshake and autograph. I feel Elvis needed the normality in his life like the rest of us have. Because Elvis was such a big superstar the biggest that made it hard for him. Now there are photos of him riding his motorcycle around Memphis and shopping. Staying at Graceland was his sanctuary.

I’m a huge fan of both Ali and Elvis. Ali was probably the most recognizable person in the whole world. The more times Elvis would’ve went out during the day and with the people, the less there would’ve been any problems. It could’ve been so much better for him. I would’ve loved to have met Elvis and Ali.
Ali the most recognisable person in the world? I don't think so. Elvis was in the public eye for over 20 years, photographed and filmed almost every day of that time, even while in the army. Did people chase Ali down the street just to touch him? Right up to the end of his career, Elvis had to be rushed off stage surrounded by security, because hundreds of fans would try to get to him, chasing them and the car until it got away. Elvis was a human magnet, especially to women. You can see it in countless videos, they reach out for him across footlights and the stage. He would never have been safe walking around any street for more than a few minutes on his own.
@@Patracat I understand what you are saying about Elvis, but Ali was also in the public eye since 1960 when he won the gold medal at the Olympics. Ali fought in the US, Europe, Philippines and Africa. Besides boxing, he was known for civil rights and not going into the Army when he was drafted. Elvis only performed in the US. He wanted to perform outside the US, but unfortunately Colonel Tom prevented that. I wish Elvis could’ve walked around like that, maybe he would’ve been happier and lived a lot longer.

@@Patracat yes, I understand that, but if he was happier he might have taken better care of himself and taken less pills. Elvis and Ali are two of my favorite celebrities off all time. I still listen to Elvis everyday. I grew up hearing Elvis from my parents who were teenagers in the 1950’s.

I was born in 1948, and my father didn't allow any kind of pop music in our house in the 50s, so I didn't discover Elvis until 1960 when I was 12 and started mixing with other kids who knew about him from their parents and older siblings🙂
Sometimes it's hard to separate the man from the legend and the legend from the man and maybe Elvis had a hard time doing that as well. The Mafia probably did more harm than good, made him too dependent on other people. Eventually, he probably didn't feel like he could just stand and face the world "man to man" and be secure all by himself. Hard to say how it could have been different though.

You make a very good point - they enjoyed the drama and acting the big men. Their heavy handiness with people was one of the reasons he let them go.

Elvis liked being Elvis he didn’t want to be like a regular guy! even though he would sometimes complain about not being able to walk around like a normal person! look at when he would go to Hawaii , the people there wouldn’t bother him’ but here in the States the fans were a different type! It started in the fifties especially when Elvis would jiggle his hips or give a funny look with his eyes or something he liked that ,it took the edge off for him we developed some kind of bond at that point on is when Elvis knew he couldn’t live without the

that never changed, right up to his last concert. Fans young and old reached out to him on stage all the time. I was one of them, I could feel his magnetism, it just pulled you in toward him.
He would go out for late night motorcycle rides and tease the gate girls who would jump in their cars and chase him. He would lose them and then pull over and wait for them to catch up, and then take off again laughing.
Li nda Thompson said they couldn't go out. She said they would try , but would have to go back in wherever they were.
Just walking out into the public is a lot different from screaming Fans chasing him after a show. Whole different story if he walked
Unannounced in public, I think fans would have been very different with him really. Shake hands, ask for an autograph.
Just much calmer Towards him and respectful. Plus Tom Parker leaking out everywhere he was going to be ahead of time didn't help! A very effective way of keeping Elvis isolated from the real world and under Parker's control.😢
Sorry I beg to differ. The effect Elvis had on his fans was nothing to do with Tom Parker. Many fans wanted much more than to shake Elvis' hand and get an autograph. Most of the time, especially at the gates of his homes in Memphis and California, the fans were well behaved and respected the boundaries. But you get a mob of fans all wanting to get close to him, and it would be a different ballgame altogether. They tore several of his jumpsuits in Las Vegas, trying to get to him. Jumped on the stage to kiss him before security men could stop them.
@@Patracat Okay that's confusing, you don't differ with my opinion, actually You said the same thing I did only in a different form. At a concert yes, he would be mobbed.. but out in public it's a different story. Parker Leaked Elvis's whereabouts so that he would be mobbed by fans, Because they knew ahead of time, (that he was going to be there,) they would show up en mass. I've never heard a story of Elvis being jumped on or mobbed in public randomly.

Some cities would probably be better to walk around in than others. There is a resort town in Texas where the like of Mel Gibson, Johnny Dep, Patrick Mahomes, etc go to deep sea fish. George Strait even had/has a home there for decades. The town and the area is known to respect their privacy and is why big names continue to return.
I didn’t know Elvis personally of course and I can only guess…he would have loved to but he would have been trapped/stuck and maybe even crushed by all the people wanting a peace of him…literally. It would have been to dangerous for him too. I also believe he liked his private space and places where he could retreat - somewhere he could chill out and get high - sorry. Unfortunately he was an addict. But that also isolated him further and further until…well we know the tragic outcome. R.I.P.

Elvis did go out though. There are plenty of photos of him at gas stations filling up his trike and signing autographs . He used to eat out and he used to visit his mums grave. Yes he didn’t go out like other people but he wasn’t a total recluse!
Totally different level. Elvis tried going to a burger joint indiscreetly and still mobbed. Fans watched his house. Elvis even had a problem when made an honorary officer. He tried to go to a crime scene and crowds would gather, he was asked to leave.
This is brilliant footage. Never seen it before. I just think Elvis Ali and the Beatles were the most famous men in the 60s and early 70s. Elvis's fan base as you say was just more fevered in how they/we approached him. I say we as I'm sure I would have definitely tried to get a closer glimpse of the great man if given the opportunity.

he was a police officer in Memphis and he was listening to police radio so if there was an accident you could see him managing the traffic ( there are pics about that, from the 70..) saying that I think it was more of a in the mood question, when he was young he liked to surprise people in public, e g lowering the window of his car and to greet people passing by, with in short time creating a crowd running behind his car…later I heard fans trying to get souvenirs from his body,rings and necklaces, leaving him with injuries and scratches… I think he simply lost interest in these things in the 70…
there is an interview with Lisa telling that her dad had a police sirens in his car and was chasing down speeding cars telling them ‘son why dont you slow down’ , going back to his car and laughing hysterical…so he had his fun in public, but it was his choice when and where and for what reason, just spontaneously showing up and not necessarily there was a camera in the vicinity filming him😉..
John Lennon loved the fact that he could walk around NYC, shop, eat at a random restaurant and return to his townhome having to sign only one or two autographs at some point during his outing.

You can't compare them, in my opinion, really. One was an athlete and the other a singer, famous in their own rights. Both legends, of course. If only Elvis could have walked freely like this. Sleeping all day, and then playing games with his entourage.

I feel Elvis magnetism was huge for obvious reasons, but also due to the way he was managed by Parker.
The bigger picture is, that Parker's idea was if Elvis is hidden from crowds and only seen on film or stage he would be more in demand as he would be more of a mystic. We in England wanted him to perform here and all sort of excuses were given by Parker, that the pay was not enough which at the time half a million pounds was not enough, but at the time it was a huge amount. Elvis didn't like flying. Parker said if anyone wants to see Elvis should come over to see him. So that mystic was causing an immense curiosity. It was reported that
Elvis wanted to visit the UK, France and Japan and he was excited by that. in In press conferences Parker would use a top watch to time his interaction with them including the rare occasion with some fans. In the end Parker killed Elvis by non stop performance schedule.
Elvis was the only entertainer that didn't mix with other entertainers. Parker didn't even like the idea of him mixing with Tom Jones.
MAM Entertainment Agency tried to get him over to the UK. Parker was the obstacle. because Parker was an illegal immigrant and also a con artist with a false name. Parker launched his career but also distroyed Elvis life.

Elvis was surrounded by Yes men and many enablers. That's not to say it would have been always wise for him to be out walking alone.
Elvis unfortunately would have been mobbed. I was working at the LV Hilton when Ali was fighting one of his last or last fight. I was walking in the casino not paying attention and literally ran into him. He was just stopping around the casino and no one bothered him.
Elvis was certainly one of the first to spark mass hysteria. we see this in photos, some films but imagine how Elvis experienced this from one day to the next? how did his parents experience this? no one is prepared for this. remember the altercation at the gas station and the trial that followed. If this kind of thing had been repeated, Elvis' detractors would have been right: "Elvis provokes violence." Elvis could not do otherwise, this way of living became normal. look at the reaction of fans in concert, some could be brutal, without intending to harm him.

As famous and loved as Ali was, I've heard more than enough stories where Elvis really did try, but it didn't work out and it talk so long. Though Ali is using the Elvis technique, or Elvis used his technique, of shaking hands and signing autographs while continuing to walk.

I definitely agree that he could have and should have, perhaps with a bodyguard discreetly near. It would have been healthy and a positive thing for him to get out more freely and mingle with the world. If only.......
He would have drawn too much attention from the public, it would have been overwhelming. He found that out early on. If he wanted or needed something, he really just couldn't go out and get it anymore, what ever it was, it had to come to him.

Muhammad was looking up at Elvis, and Elvis at Muhammad, and after, tense, tense, tense... they burst out laughing, and the handlers breathed a sigh of relief!

Elvis could have easily walk the streets of Los Angeles because people in LA. are used to seeing celebrities and it's no big deal. Even today most natives of L.A. will not go up to a celebrity's. People who live outside of NYC and Hollywood (L.A.) are the problem because in these cities they are used to leaving celebrities alone. It would have been nice if the fans would have been more respectful.to Elvis that would have made his life better and he would have been able to be in the public. No other celebrity's fame comes close to the King "EP". Ali was handsome as well.

Elvis would've been a target. Remember, that in 1970, someone had threatened Elvis when he was playing Las Vegas. Threats had been made against Elvis before, going all the way back to the 1950s. He either blew them off or the authorities investigated the threats discreetly, but in 1970, the threat was taken seriously as the potential assassin sent a photo to Elvis, a photo of Elvis with a heart and circle drawn on it, and the threat "Guess who and where?" Elvis took the threat seriously, including the notification of the FBI and police, keeping a hand gun on his person at all times and beefed up security. All the actions Elvis took may have frightened off his would be assassin, possibly the assassin worried he might be caught by the legal authorities and sent to prison for a good long time.
In all honesty, Elvis did walk the streets of Memphis, not to mention riding around Memphis on his motorcycle. There was the one story of Elvis gassing up his cycle at a convenience store and being asked if he was Elvis. The moment allowed Elvis to humorously reply to the person asking that he got the question all the time and no, he wasn't Elvis.
But, we will never know for sure if Elvis could've walked around the streets of Memphis safely. John Lennon thought he was safe in New York City walking their streets. Mark David Chapman disproved the notion a celebrity could just be another face in the crowd. If Elvis didn't die in 1977, what are the chances Chapman might have decided to take out Elvis before he ever got to John Lennon?
Elvis feared being struck down by a smirking assassin in court telling the judge "I killed Elvis Presley!" Had Elvis lived, one could only have imagined his reaction to Chapman killing John Lennon. Because of the threats made against him, Elvis could have had Red and Sonny and other big, tough guys around him for protection. But, their protection could only go so far. They couldn't have stopped an assassin if the assassin was determined to kill Elvis.
Could one of Elvis's fans have killed him if the opportunity afforded them the chance? We like to think of our fellow Elvis fans as not being wired that way, but then I do know there were and are Elvis fans who were kind off the deep end, and who could've harmed him if he didn't live up to their image of him or beliefs about him. So it becomes a question we didn't have to worry about.
I really think that he could have lived a more normal life (and it would certainly have felt better). If he had come out more often, the fans would have gotten used to his presence and would have left him more calm, they would have recognized him, congratulated him, asked for autographs but without "attacking" him, as we saw with Alì and as can be seen in old times when Elvis was at the beginning of his career but was already being recognized on the street. Even in later times, as you pointed out , he "dared" to go alone without "risking" his life, so it was possible.
I believe, once again, that a lot of responsibility for his isolation can be attributed to Parker who had every interest in keeping him isolated and not only from the fans but also from all social life such as those
events/awards which Elvis never participated in because Parker forbade him, a social life which, I believe, would have done Elvis a lot of good: both to improve his shyness and his self-esteem and therefore perhaps help him make decisions for his career, instead of delegating everything to Parker, comparing himself with other colleagues, being able to publicly receive the awards and applause instead of receiving them in his own dressing room almost "hiddenly", obtaining at most a few publicity photos.
Surely Elvis liked to be lonely himself, but I think that part of this responsibility can also be attributed to the MM guys, who isolated him with the excuse of protecting him, in truth I think they were following Parker's orders and also did not want to "lose the privilege" of being able to be the only ones have direct contact with him.
There have been and still are many great stars like Elvis who, even if they certainly don't live a completely normal life, are still often fotographed in normal situations: walking, at a restaurant, at the supermarket, etc., etc., so why not Elvis?

There is a video on here where Vernon talks about how Elvis was mobbed in the 50s, they ripped his clothes off and he was banged up. Maybe, he developed a fear of that. I'm an old fan. 67 years. I think Elvis could have gone out incognito and he did a few times but I don't think he could ever go and come as he pleased. People would and did mob him. They weren't contented to see him. They wanted something of his or him.

I think one can say, “all the above” and both instances you pointed out about Elvis walking alone in public were because he was angry/upset. And how does it differ from no emotion? Well, like Ali, getting angry makes one more confident. We all know Ali was extremely confident. Elvis wasn’t as confident in himself or his surroundings. I bet when he stormed out of Graceland in 1970, no one could have bothered him because he wouldn’t care. And in 1977, he was upset and didn’t care about anyone saying anything. But yo your point: two very different types of men and stardom levels. No jealous men would’ve attempted a punch to Ali. And Elvis was a Mega Star. Ali was not.

I have a dream that every Tuesday and Friday be declared Elvis Presley Day in Memphis and those two days are when Elvis can go out in public without fear of causing a riot or fearing bodily harm. In his book, Jerry Schilling tells a story of him and Elvis sitting at a hotel bar just shooting the breeze. No matter how hard I try, I just can't conjure up that image in my head.

All these people want fame and for the whole world to idolize them and when they get it, it's like a very heavy albatross around their necks for the rest of their lives. Be careful what you wish for! I am positive that his isolation lead to a lot of issue for him throughout his life and I feel bad for his wife and girlfriends that were forced to endure that isolation with him.
