Thank you for having the Purgatory podcasts all through the year, not just in November. It is very grounding to hear why these poor souls suffer, and they truly can be helped. Humility is key to everything, and we really are dirt, and none of us can stay out of sin for any amount of time without the grace of God.
I am 68, a cradle catholic. I have learned so much about purgatory from you, and for several months now, have been saying a rosary decade every night for the souls in purgatory. I am, however, a sinner, even though I try to fight the temptations of sin. On particularly sinful days, a voice in me tells me my sinful acts nullify the effectiveness of these prayers. I believe those thoughts are the voice of the evil one, so as pathetic I may feel as a sinner praying for other sinners, I fight thru those thoughts and continue to say the nightly rosary for the souls in purgatory. I wish you would address the subject of the effectiveness of our prayers for the poor souls, even though we may not be in the state of grace. Thank you for your channel!
Maybe go to weekly confession and if you get these thoughts, let the priest know?? Sometimes a good priest will council you through scruples or temptation like this. Take advantage of this great Sacrament. You probably already do, just trying to help.

I once heard from a priest, that we should always asking Mary to purify these prayers through her immaculate heart, therefore making them worthy and meritorious. I also ask her to help me grow in virtue and to destroy vice in my life.
I try to go to confession twice a month….I would like to do it more often but it’s not easy when you work over 40 hours/week. I have been saying the chaplet of the 7 sorrows of Mary before confession or while I prepare for confession; it helps me remember sins from the past that I have never confessed. When I pray the Chaplet, I have to have pen & paper, because suddenly memories of my past come back and I have to write down my new list of old sins to confess. This prayer helps to purify our souls and brings us closer to Mary when we remember each one of her sorrows. And when we get closer to Mary, guess what happens: we change, because Mary is full of Grace, and she wants us to wear her virtues, to practice her virtues, to BE her virtues. Our life is transformed when Mary is in our life. She brought Jesus to the world and now she brings us to Jesus. To the Father through Jesus. To Jesus through Mary. Always with the help of THE HOLY SPIRIT.
