In this drama, Eugene, Dongmae, and Heeseong represent independence activists, and Aeshin means their home country, Joseon. Dongmae protected Joseon with a sword, Eugene protected Joseon with a gun, and Heesung protected Joseon with writing. Aeshin of Joseon is their love and longing, and also their identity.
One more reason why Lee Byung-Hun is the greatest Korean actor to ever live. What an amazing show this was. Definitely in my top ten greatest TV shows of all time world wide. This was my first journey into Korean tv shows. I’m worried that nothing will ever be able to top how good this show was. It was a 24 episode cinematic experience.
Not just a great Korean actor. He's a great actor period. Too bad Hollywood only stereotypically typecast him as the bad guy assasin. Both G. I Joe's Ninja Assisan, though he was a perfect Storm Shadow, the movie Red 2, Assisan, Terminator Genesis a T2 assassin, Misconduct an assassin. The Magnificent 7 pretty much a hired killer. But it's great that he was able to cross over into Hollywood. He even did a parody of Rush Hour with P. Diddy.. I love him
Truly sad ending for those who tried to liberate Joseon from the Japanese. I still can't t get over Eugene's goodbye. Very sad ending indeed ! Love L B H, a very talented actor.

I am still watching all of these scenes here on youtube after watching the series, cried my eyes out and all I can say is it was one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life. The love story, the true story, the actors and actresses, the music, just all around beauty in the sense of it showing such a strong people, fighting for what they believed in, and such innocence in a love story.
i just hate knowing that i probably cant watch any other korean drama now that i've made my debut in the kdrama world with this top tier stuff. is there anything else worth watching that wont seem lame compared to this?

Jenny Joseon was lead over by Japanese in a cruel way. Japanese were very ashamed about being asian, and wanted to rule over Joseon as Joseon was being ruled over by pieces from other countries. There is a very sensitive museum on how Japanese beat up the Joseon people in reality. I’m from Korea, aka Joseon, and the history is very upsetting.
I just finished last night and all day today I can’t get that ending out of my head. So heartbreaking. I really wish they could have been together. 😭😭😭

I'm still crying to this drama. I watch that last part where he dies over and over. And I'm in tears. It was a perfect ending. It was sad but it was beautifully done. Best drama ever.
my favorite scene is the one where they depart in japan, and he holds her face as though its the single most precious thing in his life. i do like slow-burn subtle gestures, and that moment was the most intimate between the two. tho honestly i was expecting her fulfill the flame prophecy and die in a blast of glory like the symbol of inspiration that she is, and for eugene to keep that photo of theirs, and keep the resistance going in her memory to conclude his nationality as being truly joint now that he's no longer a soldier anyway, and give him a more meaningful arc than dying in an act of love, as though his only role in the series was to love her. she's the cruel one, she should have been the one to leave him in the end as he'd suspected yet he still came to her. him dying didnt change anything fundamental about her, but it would have changed him
If eugune choose to be a soldier then that only means he chose to be american. But he chose the flame thats ae shin. He knows he will die but he chose his love not joseon. He loath joseon so much but he chose his woman who are defending joseon. What a wonderful storyline.
I knew he would die once he was dishonorably discharged from the military and lost his military protection. He was just a civilian in Korea. This man lost his Military status and spent 3 years in prison for her and then returned to her as a civilian. That's love
This drama live up to its reputation as one of the top 10 most viewed kdrama for cable tv. So, you still hesitate to watch? A big lost. The best among the best!

I keep thinking why eugene does not use Japanese bodies (hostages) to protect themselves from Japanese soldiers so there is no need to get out of the train car to shoot the train car connections after the carriage was released, just throw the hostage so eugene remains safe and can meet again with ae _shin but it turns out again this is only an opinion that cannot change the story that is finished ... (I still wish if) 😥😥😥😥

I love all the characters and their acting too much it was like it happen in front of my eyes in real life that I cried so much. Their loves and their chemistry were so great. This and Empress Ki killed me watching them. All the characters died except Ae Shi

This drama does not depict even 30% of what really happend in Korean peninsula and there had been so many Go ae shin and Eugene Choi who lived that era under Japanese colonization, who won't give in until their death. Still many korean family, they have their own version of Mr Sunshine in their family history. That's why Koreans cannot forget today our tragic history even 100 yrs after while Japanese people still deny all their evil acts in the past. But it's ok. People can deny or forget, God does not.

I love all the characters and their acting too much it was like it happen in front of my eyes in real life that I cried so much. Their loves and their chemistry were so great. This and Empress Ki killed me watching them. All the characters died except Ae Shi

I am a abid fan of korean series but mr.sunshine is the best korean i ever watch nice amazing
This drama does not depict even 30% of what really happend in Korean peninsula and there had been so many Go ae shin and Eugene Choi who lived that era under Japanese colonization, who won't give in until their death. Still many korean family, they have their own version of Mr Sunshine in their family history. That's why Koreans cannot forget today our tragic history even 100 yrs after while Japanese people still deny all their evil acts in the past. But it's ok. People can deny or forget, God does not.
That why this drama is veryyyyy sad coz we know there was many men and women with this sad stories and ending
