      To me that’s the whole point. I ride both and although I can’t go as fast on a board than when I’m skiing, braking like this and going down the slope with my hand lightly sliding on the slope wall all the way down is what I live for.

      You don't even use the same skills though. Snowboarding and skiing require different leg muscles, different point of balance, etc

      You can not be so aerodynamic as a skier... that's the reason why snowboarder is not so fast. Second reason the surface of the board and skis, larger in snowboard so the friction forces are higher.

    Had a 64 long board and a buddy of mine had some shorty skis. We would barrel down the slope and he'd leave me like I wasn't even moving. Very humbling

      ​@@coasterthekid8867 don't know if its that easy tho? Cause with less surface you have more weight concentrated on a smaller area, making the friction worse I'd guess. But apart from that for going fast, and i mean real fast, you want to have long skis.

      @@JGStone If you want to go real real fast, yes yes you absolutely want longer skiis xD I have my Atomic sx10 supercross from like pre 2012 that are 185tall, And I am only 179. But have some Volkl racetigers, If I wanna allround and not just trying to get my record above 120 kmph, 116kmph is record sofar :D Also you want some boots with 130-140 flex atleast. I have some Technica mach 1's wih cas and 130 flex, they are amazing (for my feet)

      ​​@@freethinker3083 snowboards have much more surface contact with the snow, which increases speed loss to friction. If you try to stay on an edge to minimize this, you're not going straight and losing speed to that instead

      ​@@BryanL1982 Going faster than less experienced skiers or going faster than you probably should be through a crowded area aren't what we're talking about. Equally experienced skier and snowboarder on terrain they're both going flat out on with no people in the way, skier wins every time.

      I love carving and putting down some tasty euro carves, but bombing a run is always fucking sick. I used one of those speedometer apps at mammoth in Cal and went over 70mph off one of the double blacks.

      ​@@willek1335 snowboarding really is only slower through the moguls, icy conditions, or through poles/gates, I grew up in Aspen Colorado (was a semi pro border cross racer). I used to snowboard alongside, pro Mogul/alpine ski racers (my friends) also skied with Alex Ferreira (x games gold medalist half pipe) he was my neighbor (which a couple of my friends were faster than him). Sometimes I would get to the bottom first and other times they would get to the bottom first.

      @@projectdelta50you can still go fast as fuck on a board faster than 99% of skiers but you’ll never beat that 1%. There’s a reason most snowboarders lean towards freestyle and most skiers lean towards freeride but that doesn’t stop some skiers from going ham in the park.

    The world record for the fastest snowboard speed was set by Jamie Barrow in 2022. He reached the staggering speed of 131.11 mph (211 km/h) whilst being towed by a vehicle. The fastest downhill snowboard speed is 126.31 mph (203 km/h).
    The Olympics website said skiers regularly reach speeds of up to 95 mph. In 2013, French skier Johan Clarey reached 100.6 mph in a World Cup downhill race. While it's not an Olympic sport, Italian speed skier Ivan Origone set a world record of 158.4 mph in 2016.

    My friend almost met Maradona for going so fast on the snowboard. Snowboarding is made for fun, not for going fast. As a former skier who switched to snowboarding I tell you that the feeling of speed and danger on a snowboard is practically double that on skis, the good thing is that it is directly proportional to the fun it produces.

      I switched back to almost exclusively skiing after a few years of giving snowboarding a fair shot. I just love love love to go fast and skis are where it's at for speed. Nothing quite like blasting down a freshly prepared slope in the morning with up to ~120km/h (I know the pros hit up to 160km/h on some runs but there are still entire worlds of skill between them and me).

      @@pwcgp2199 well, that depends very much on the type of avalanche, all avalanches that you can see beeing outrun in videos are just fresh-snow avalanches, you never will be able to outrun a floe avalanche - which is the most common and most deadly type cause if it starts the whole slope breaks in milliseconds into a mass of moving snow.

      That's nonsense. As someone who raced for an Austrian team, it's not at all about keeping your skis close. Look at some videos of Olympic race skiers. Neither slalom nor racing holds them together.

    As a skier who usually hits the slope with a snowboarder who has put in more total time and who is better at a lot of tricks and stuff, the only time it's actually a competition is on moguls where I'm not comfortable going super fast. If we're on a smooth run and I'm not worried about running into people he can't even touch me. Especially if I tuck since that's much harder to do on a board.

    Nice. Btw have you noticed one of the skiers at the end? White jacket, black trousers. Absolutely invisible till the very last moment, that might be really deadly. Wear very bright clothes while skiing, folks. My instructors have told this to me already like 20 years ago. Never ever wear white black combination while skiing. Worse is only to be dressed in white. Yes, it's very cool on photos, and also very invisible.

      @M14 He looked like he was pretty off balance and not in control. He wasn't slowing down he just caught the edge a little when he was turning. I grew up in Northern Utah I know a bit, grew up around like 15 resorts.

      @@iro9486 he didn’t catch an edge. He was stopping at high speed. He didn’t lose his balance at all. I’ve been snowboarding since I was 6 man. I live in BC, I got mountains everywhere too lol. Hop on a board and try to stop at that speed because I’ve done this multiple times

      They never could keep up... Why are they trying? Physics won't allow that. The ski guy didn't even go aerodynamic...
