As an engineer. Im.a tell you EQ and compression are gonna make your voice sound way better too. Make sure you gat a conpressor where you can compress the AIR aka the highs. You can get that joyner lucas style compression that makes his voice sound so good. And dont forget LAYERS!!

What I’m loving about this is it’s less about technique and more about mindset and limiting beliefs. Especially on that point about identity-which is a DEEPER conversation. I know every lyric to dozens of my own tracks 10+ years old, on top of hundreds of my favorite artists' tracks. but I tend to listen to the same song on repeat for hours and just rap it over and over tbh. Shit I still know lyrics to songs I haven't listened to in years so idk, I agree its noticeable if the artist knows and feels their own shit.

I'm a hobby opera singer trying to get into rapping (a little nuts, I know...) and I wondered why my voice was sounding weak when trying to rap while it was able to fill a room without a mic when I sing classically. I wouldn't have thought it's the same system. Being present and confident, deliver with urgency and command. It comes naturally with the volume and technique in classical singing, while I really needed to hear it and get into it mentally for rapping. Thank you so much for telling me.

This is pretty spot on. There's some things that aren't as important not mentioned here, but you can find yourself/ already have found yourself and contribute to a false sense of hip hop. Its rap though. Like the message isnt mentioned in here and what you know youngsters are listening to, but for good cause because they say rap, not hip hop. To me, this is if you want to make it, money, but there's also underground and the fact that it's a pick and choose if u want to hear the words or just move to the music. Some people make it, but I categorize it as something different in music..... hip hop doesn't want to be set back for peeps trying to portray some image. Some people arent built like that and and have factors keeping them at bay. KRS One is trying to preserve it and there's so many that want to be something that's not from within because of the wrong understandings in life. It's still music at the end of the day, amd creativity is amazing, but for hip hop... that's sold out, almost anyway

My voice shined and it had authenticity. I no longer sounded like where I came from, it was a new spin that sets me apart, every artist needs that to get notice by potential new fans and the music industry. I still use it in my arsenal. Wow, very interesting. I had ZERO clue others felt these ways about their voice as well lol. I'm not someone who wants to pursue a career as an artist per se, but I do enjoy writing and rapping as a hobby; you know, making music that's only really for my own ears. Even when I would have that 'silly' thought of trying to pursue the path of an artist I immediately would shut it down since I feel like my voice sucks, my only hope in my mind was autotune since I'd never tried it yet haha. I almost equated my voice being a barrier to becoming an artist as I view someone's height being a barrier to ever become an NBA player, if that makes sense. If anything, this video (which I randomly stumbled upon) at least lets me know that I'm not alone so thank you. 👊

Putting your diaphragm into it and giving yourself a good vocal base is helpful af. I treat it like I'm spitting AT the mic

Hmm...you have to go based on the movement of the track. You shouldn't be using the same exact voice unless you just want to stay in the same instrumental pocket. That's why some MC's aren't versatile. They flow the same way no matter the track. That could work but its too narrow for this day and age.

It is good though if you can find your voice that way and then experiment after youve laid the groundwork

Great video bro. I would love to send you a sample of where I’m at and have you break down what I’m still doing wrong hahaha. Some songs are perfect first take, some 10 takes in I just don’t like.
