I honestly think this holiday is amazing even though I am American I did learn about this in class and even before because I loved the idea that you get to spend a day with a loved one who's been gone who maybe passed away years ago or just recently passed honestly it's sounds so amazing !
You could definitely celebrate it too. I feel like as long as other non Hispanic respect it and celebrate it for it’s pure intention then they should be able to spend time with their deceased too.
I put up my altar every year. I remember going to the cementary and decorating my sisters grave and spending the day there visiting other family members. There would be mariachis singing people eating and having a very good time. It's been years since I've done this.
I love the Day of the Dead encourages people to celebrate the positive impact people had that they have lost. Sadly this year we have lost a lot of lives do the Coronavirus. I think this year the only Silver Lining we could have so far is at least remembering the ones we lost in a positive way!
I love how inside edition teaches/explains dia de los muertos bc I have friends that thinks its just Mexican Halloween or they just think of coco when the word pops up
Reminder, anybody can wear whatever they want even if it is not their own culture because they have every right to do so. This is coming from a Hispanic. Cultural appropriation is a myth.
If you're talking about the Catrina or Calavera Garbancera costumes then it's not wrong for anyone to dress up as a Catrina or Catrin. She's not sacred and she was a critique of Mexicans who preferred European culture over Mexican. She was a Posada Skeleton and Posada's Skeletons were about conveying that it didn't matter what your race, social status, or morals were, in the end everyone would end up a Skeleton. She also didn't have anything to do with Día de Muertos until Diego Rivera made her the personification of Death in one of his paintings. After that people started including her in their altars.
Awe the day of the dead is so beautiful in my culture 🥰🥳 My sister was also born on that day it’s beautiful to see the amount of love and candles ,food ,flowered for our loved ones who have passed
I never knew a lot about day of the dead i just knew it was a way to celebrate loved ones who have passed away but that whole explaination was beautiful 💗😊
I'm Mexican American and if i never knew what day of the dead was i would've watched this. But i already know what the day of the dead is so i don't know what the heck im doing here😂
Little Story (also true story) In history class we had to do a group project on immigrants and our group got Latin-American and ironically the whole group was latino, Mexican, ect (The teacher didn't even realize he did that). The teacher came around to see how we were doing, then he came to our table and we all started talking then he asked out opinion on Day of the Dead and Halloween mixed to American's. Some people in my group said it was fine but some said it's not (including me). My reasoning was that it was to respect our passed loved ones and celebrate them not to dress up and get candy. Thank you for reading my story and please dont associate Day of the Dead with Halloween!❤🇲🇽
its sad. i never got to truly celebrate this as i came to america at age 4 and never go to experience this in my home land. we still do it but i haven't seen my family in mexico since i was 4. im 15 now and i dont think ill ever get the chance to see the rest of my family :(
This year is the saddest Day of the Dead for me because of Pandemic we cannot visit our loved ones graveyard because of Covid. I'm not from Mexico but we celebrate Day of the Dead here in Philippines. Day of the Dead and Christmas is really important to us. 😭😭😭😭😭
Día de Muertos is not Halloween however Día de Muertos did end up influencing Halloween in Mexico. At least where I'm from when we went trick or treating we would ask for our Calaverita or little skull instead of saying trick or treat and people would give us candy. It was also a way for us to preserve our traditions because before Coco and Hollywood cared for Day of the Dead, it was starting to fade away as a tradition and kids were prefering Halloween. Which is why schools started doing activities to teach kids about our tradition and why you saw Día de Muertos stuff in Halloween.
@Sebastian Uribe get you head out of your political ass. I'm only saying I wish I could travel, but because of the lockdown it's not gonna happen anytime soon
Latin x is just a thing to insult the Mexicans and Mexican Americans. They just wanna lump us together, so the USA won't know how the Latinos really vote!! It's in particular the Méxican Americans that carry the minority vote for the Dems, but they made it clear to us on election night. We r just the mules for the Dems. The USA can stick Latin x where the sun don't shine!!
Reminder: Day of the Dead is not “Mexican Halloween”. I love that that Coco shows the the amazing Culture my country has🇲🇽

We too celebrate this day. "Dan Mrtvih" in Slovene. First of November.
Wow two countries so far apart and they both have the same tradition on the same day
In el Salvador the date of the dead is celebrated on Nov 2
Día de Los muertos is a celebration of life like your past family is with you and being with your family.
I celebrated this from 2018 to 2020 and I will do it forever
Dia de los muertos isn't like a mexican halloween, we can't have another halloween 2 days after-
