I am glad that even though Mexico is right next to the USA,their people have not being influenced by the Americans, they have been able to maintain their traditions alive for centuries making Mexico a very authentic and mystical country. I am planing my retirement in Mexico!
Yes, it is influenced, in the north of Mexico this is not celebrated as such, they are very discriminatory and prefer to copy everything from the USA. You can tell them about this day and they will hardly remember, but you say "halloween" and it's something else, in the north they always try to live and pretend they are like the USA.
The good thing is that only that happens in border states and cities.
Remember. The further south, the more culture. WE LOVE ALL PEOPLE WELCOME!!
@@MapacheD To understand the difference you have to take in consideration that on the south MOST people native Mexicans therefore, one can expect a big traditional celebration, while on the north you'll find people from all over the world who don't celebrate then you have the Mexican/Americans who reside in TJ but celebrate halloween because thats their tradition...so is not about Mexicans from the noth being racist or trying to be Americans, is more about embracing both countries, after all most of them do belong to both sides of the fance.

Pero aun así es parte de, no solo recordar a nuestros seres fallecidos, también le rendimos culto a la muerte con varios momentos, con las calaveras literarias, nos mofamos de ella, la retratamos en comida y así, si crees en la vida crees también en la muerte
Pero nuestros ancestros si le rendían culto a la muerte, es por eso que se le hacían ofrendas, no era solo para honrar a los que ya no están, si no por que de alguna manera le temían a la muerte así como a otros dioses (o los respetaban).

El cuerpo en su teologia estaba dividido en 3 y una de esas partes se va al mictlan, otra se queda aqui y la que se queda aqui es a la que se honra. Busca sobre las veintenas la celebracion en raiz tenia el mismo proposito, pero lo celebraban diferente.el culto de mictlantecuhtli era en dias diferentes y solo poca gente lo practicaba. Mictlantecuhtli era temido y respetado junto con los 9 dioses de cada region del mictlan.

Que lindo! É tão diferente do Brasil, onde o dia de Finados (Mortos) é muito melancólico para quem realmente lembra dos familiares. O resta da população faz coisas aleatória porque é um feriado nacional. Uma parte nem se importa mais com a data. Parabéns ao povo mexicano, por encarar a morte de um outro prisma.
Es que ekl día de muertos es un rito se festeja diferente en cada estado incluso pero es prehispánica ustedes oelñ resto celebra el día de todos los santos que fue creada para México ya que klos españoles querían eliminar nuestras tradiciones, pero no pudieron pero todos klos demás países si la agarraron

Literally just went to Mexico for a week to document the same stuff, but in different areas. You guys are too fast with it haha. Mexico is a truly awesome place, especially off the tourist road :) Amazing work, as always!

The name of this date in Mexico does not include the auxiliary article "LOS", as in "Día de Los Muertos"; but like this: "Día de Muertos".
The auxiliary article "LOS" was added because in English it has to be included, as it would sound very strange "Day of Death", so, in English is "Day of THE Death", whereas in Spanish is "Día de Muertos". Why? Because is not a celebration of Death (like in Halloween) or THE DEATH - people in tombs... but of LIFE... the life of those who proceeded us into the Beyond (or Mictlán, in the ancient Nahuatl language)... or for us Christians, Heaven and Purgatory (but not Hell). Mexicans on the "Día de Muertos" don't celebrate Hell at all... because we all have the Hope of having an encounter with our ancestors when our time on this Earth ends.

Correction, we say day of the dead. Death is either the grim reaper or the act of dying in general. When we say the dead walk amongst us we either mean ghosts or zombie like things. When we say death walks amongst us, we normally mean the grim reaper or that we are in a place where many are dying like a plague something.

This is another holiday that people in the US are starting to make mainstream, pay attention and sort of stealing it. Each passing year, I can see it being celebrated even more in the US. It is bittersweet, because there's a lot of negativity towards Mexico but happy to take the best of us and make it sort of their own. If things weren't as negative, I would appreciate it even more that it's getting the attention it's getting lately.
Here is happening the same, at north cities of México like Nuevo Leon, in every house you can see a ghost, a frankestein, celebrating Halloween and you will never see an "altar del dia de muertos"

speaking for my own community, we're officially cataloged as part of La Huasteca but we don't celebrate anything and there's no huastecs living in our area anymore...
Condorito I’m sure the only reason why it feels like it’s sort of popular in the U.S. is probably because of the high population of Mexican-Americans here. Other than that, I don’t think it is being celebrated by Non-Hispanic Americans.

Very Nice! I'm second generation American! But we always put up an alter on day of the dead. My kids will do that for their families, I'm passing it on to them so they can do the same and keep this Mexican Tradition going in the US!

¡Mi abuelito también era panadero! Aprendió desde niño en Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, y ejerció su oficio hasta ya viejito. Sabía hacer todo: pasteles, donas, condes, conchas, pan de muerto, rosca de reyes... y hacía unos cisnes rellenos de crema que nunca he visto en otro lado. Todo lo hacía de forma artesanal, inclusive el merengue de la clara de huevo, la mermelada de piña y fresa, y los novios que se ponen en el pastel los hacía de pasta y los pintaba a mano, hasta las pestañas!
1. Día de los muertos no es darle culto a la muerte. Si no para recordar a la gente que ha muerto.
2. Lo de pintarse la cara empezo por la catrina. En el extranjero pensaban que todos se pintaban y ahora es lo que se ve
3. Día de los muertos no tiene absolutamente nada que ver con la santa muerte.
4. Me da gusto que esta tradición sea reconocida en el mundo, pero me da tristeza que esté cambiando solo para atraer a extranjeros. Como la introducción del desfile donde todos se pintan la cara y es puro show. Esa no es la esencia de esta tradición
Peliculas como James Bond Spectre y Coco le dieron publicidad al dia de muertos en todo el mundo.
ya se ahora cada ciudad de mexico se esta adueñando, por ejemplo en este video Oaxaca diciendo que es mas importante en esta ciudad y solo lo hacen para atraer turistas. estan inventado cosas nuevas nomas para hacerla mas etravagante

Y también se pierden por la basta de sectas religiosas q se va creando en México, ya hasta en los pueblos indígenas de Veracruz se les prohíbe utilizar las nahuas y bordados inclusive aretes y collares a las mujeres q según así lo dice la Biblia.
@@Jessi.313 Está tradición no tiene nada que ver con Satanás ni la santa muerte ni nada de eso, es solo recordar y honrar con cariño y respeto a tus ancestros, a tu familia y el ciclo de la vida,acaso Jesús no nos dice que lo más importante es la familia y que más allá de la muerte hay vida?
