42s are better in low light situations such as sunrise and sunset birding and hubting. 32s are better in most other situations, such as general viewing, birding in good light, backyard birding. hiking, travel, sports, and car glove compartment. 32s are lighter and usually slightly less expensive. I think 32s are the best choice for most people.

I was struggling to chose between the Bushnell prime 8x32 and 8x42 for a trip to Japan. I had ordered the 8x42, but then I realized it was more than 200 grams heavier and a bit larger too (for obvious reasons). Your comment made it easier to cancel that order and go for the 8x32! Thanks :)

I wonder why 8x32s in general have larger FOV than 8x42s. Because they are shorter and the objective lens shorter focal length, the focal length of the ocular needs to have shorter focal length to keep the same magnification. Which results in shorter eye relief.
While large FOV is nice I wish the manufacturers would not sacrifice eye relief in order to get wider FOV.
One exception from this is Swarovski EL and NL Pure. The 8x42s have wider FOV than the 8x32s.

I got generic 8x22 binocular and it got large 7.8 f.o.v.. THE GAME IS OF THE NUMBER OF BRIGHTNESS LEVEL..
8X42 provide 26 brightness which is enough for night time also....
While my 8x22 is not much bright ( something around 18 brightness) but still gives me crisp and sharp views...
      Btw 8x32 is best option...

@1:33 He raises the 8x42 binoculars but says "8x32" when he's clearly discussing the larger size (ie 20% bigger) ... @6:32 she mispoke and meant to say 8x32 (ie smaller for hikers)

If you have the choice between 8x and 8.5x power where the objective is 42 mm on the 8x and 50 mm for the 8.5x which would you choose? The thought is 10x might be too shaky to handhold

50mm would be heavier, so if hand holding comfort is a factor, go for 42mm

Hi, I'm lookinh to buy Wortex Diamondback and I woild like to ask is the better option to pay extra 55 euros and to buy 8x42 or to pay less and get 8x32?
    Thanks

The 8x42 has a larger objective lens compared to the 8x32. This can be advantageous if you plan on using the binoculars in early morning or late evening, or in dense foliage. On the other hand, the 8x32 will likely be more compact and lightweight, making it easier to carry around. If portability is a significant factor for you, or if you plan on using the binoculars for activities like hiking or birdwatching this is a more convenient option. Ultimately, it depends on your personal preferences and the specific conditions in which you plan to use the binoculars. Why does a larger objective lens produce a smaller field of view?

Thank you. Newbie here. The same confusion is also at 01:36. I had to watch and pause at both several times and still didn't realize they were mistakes and why I was so confused. Otherwise good video.
