    I'm surprised you didn't show weight comparison. Weight is important. I own the Nikon Prostaff P7 10x30 as well as the Zeiss SFL 10x30. If there is an image quality difference, I can't tell. Both are excellent. I paid $160 for the P7 and $1,350 for the SFL. I also own the Nikon Monarch M7 8x42. I highly recommend both of these Nikon binoculars.

    Good video. I actually learnt quite a bit. Years ago, in the 35mm film era, I hankered after a pair of lowish power Binoculars for star gazing and for general use. As I had a Nikon FM and lenses, I wanted Nikon Binoculars too. Looking at the prices (UK) then, I reluctantly bought an East German Pair--7 by 50mm Carl Zeiss Jena at a discount back then. They are very good and solid and come in a leather case. I still wonder what the Nikon 8 by 42mm or 8 by 50 mm ones would have been like though. Thank You.

      Thanks for watching! Nice - East German 7x50 CZJs, I imagine they were rugged and reliable.
      In general I notice binos go on sale very often - definitely makes sense to wait for a discount.

    Nikon binoculars offer great value for your money. One important factor not given in exact numbers is the light transmission. It needs expensive kinds of special glass and an equally good (and expensive) coating that prevents reflection but lets light through. These are factors that have been improved in the last decades, but are nearly impossible to improve further. Therefore your binocular can last a lifetime. Within a range of a manufacturer more expensive is really better. Buy the most expensive you can afford! Otherwise you certainly will want to buy a better one in a few years. You will see more and better with an expensive 8x42 than with a cheap 10x50.

    Would you take a used Monarch M5 over a P7 (for roughly the same price)?

    • @lensvana
      @lensvana  9 месяцев назад +1

      For general use I'd take the M5 used in good condition. For birding / tracking small objects, I'd consider the P7 for the slightly wider FOV

      It would actually be the previous generation M5. So I guess current gen P7 stands its ground against prev gen M5.
