Good tips. Almost bought 10x42 but tried them in the store first- very shaky. Basically 10x42 are tripod binos. Ordered some 8x32- much less shake and good for hiking too!

I choose 8x here. Brighter and more stable image, as well as wider field of view.

    I already have 8x42 and 8x25
I want 1 more with more Mag.
    Should i go foe 8x30/32?
    Or 12x42?

Good basic information. I think 8 power is better for most people and most situations. I have 8X32, and they are great for suburban neighborhood viewing, football games, backyard birds, and travel. 10 power may be more appropriate for birding if you have strong hands and forearms. If possible, borrow a pair of each and try them before purchasing.

I was lucky enough to purchase a dealer used Swarovski EL 10x32 in Cape May and I also have the Leica Noctivid but I always take the EL's when I will be out field birding all day. The weight is a big issue. Also, I can hold the EL's easily with one hand. It is the perfect field bin.

Excelent comparison between this two magnification values.
Now i´m more confident to choose between 8 and 10 for my use.

It’s a personal thing but if I felt the need for more magnification I wouldn’t hesitate to buy 10x as in reality unless you are on a boat there’s very little difference in the effect of ‘shake’ between 8 & 10x. I regularly use 7x & 10x but notice no difference in ease of use as regards ‘shake’.

And how long it gets you to get experienced, buy 8x and then in a month look for 10x ?

    Thanks for the excellent video.
Personally, I find that on occasion, the 8x magnification provides best stability for detail recognition which 10x may obscure, when tracking a moving target as an example, or particularly when studying more distant birds in motion.
    Thank you again.

bird watching, hunting, and hiking were discussed. these are common uses that are all slightly different. what do you think is missing?

Plenty of hunters use binoculars and find reviews such as this very helpful. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean they need to stop mentioning hunters. 👍
