For a novice like me the breakdown/adaptation mini exercises are better than the end goal. So much great info presented, this really makes calisthenics fun.
This has been a part of my back workout for some time. Somedays it goes well, somedays it does not, so came here to learn more tips. But man! If you can do dead hang pull over, that means you have enough strength to do pull over in one motion. Dead hang is harder, at least for me, since there is no momentum. The fact that Simon can do this slowly shows how strong he is!
Hello Simon. Great video on a very underrated move. However, I would say you overemphasise the amount of strength required in order to start benefiting from this move. One of the things I struggle to help friends with, is getting stuck on the bar at the waist. Really great tip about straightening the legs to lift the torso up. Will see if that works. Choosing a very low bar, and rolling forward, out of the top position is also a good way to start 👍🤸
Hey Simon, last couple of years I've been playing with this move but only successful when feet are in contact with the ground. I watched your video, then next day tried to pullover from a high bar by first executing my highest pull up , tensioned my body, gave a very small swing, fwd back fwd then tried to raise legs keeping them straight as possible. Quite easily I found myself on top of the bar. So I've watched a few other videos before but as I said couldn't get the move completed. Thinking about it, I reckon the difference may have been noting how tensioned your body was and keeping that in focus. Now for the muscle up which I'm actually working on almost every session. Just celebrated my 65th birthday so not sure if this body has potential for the MU but I'll keep at it. Thanks for your high quality instruction.
I have core strength so can do ankles to bar easily but I get stuck with my waist on the bar. Maybe I don’t have a big enuf butt for gravity to pull me through or my arms are so long that the geometry is off. You make it look effortless.
Same man, sometimes I even prefer to get on top of the bar with a muscle-up, but what I learned to not squash your balls, is to imagine pulling the bar to your belly button mid exercise
I cannot do toes to bar, but I can pullover. Toes to bar requires ample hamstring flexibility. Pullover does not. I do not think toes to bar is a prerequisite.
Hi What do you think of doing the knee raise first and doing the pull up while raising the toes to the sky ? I do it this way and find it a bit easier as you get momentum from the knee raise
How important is hamstring flexibility to this movement or toes to bar? I am not very flexible so when I do toes to bar my knees remain slightly bent, wondering now if this is as a result of my lack of flexibility or maybe strength. Thanks.
Hello, one question: were you able to do it, even with not very flexible hamstrings? I don't have much hamstring flexibility too and I am wondering if I can do it too.
Most people in the world haven’t put much effort into training calisthenics. Relative to what can be achieved, it is beginner or intermediate at most. I consider this one of the more challenging beginner skills. It’s easier than intermediate skills like muscle-ups and orders of magnitude easier than the planche or handstand push-ups.
This is one of the first, maybe even the first, bar skill we learned in kids gymnastics. This was way before pull ups, we did a semi-dynamic version from a straight arm hang. I guess you have to get to the support position somehow and when you are smaller then one meter tall everything is a high bar. :)
@@SimonsterStrength I am trying to get to my first 'giant' (pull over with arms overhead, body straight), but I am having issues with pushing myself away from the bar and grip strength. Also, it is still scary and I have safety concerns. Seeing the pull over and giant are related skills, and your instructional videos are the best on the web, maybe you can help me?
It is a beginner skill. A beginner calisthenics athlete can learn this within the first couple of months. Most people in the world are just not beginner athletes
Simon with the A+ tutorials again 🙏

Nice instruction it helps me within 1 hour. I was a bit afraid, but seeing your movements I thought yes that seems ok. Thanks.

Do you have a 6 pack . That is core strength.
Your toes to bar looks so perfect. I always struggle not to move with my shoulders and back
Best bar pulover tutorial on you tube. thanks
Love your teaching.....From india.....Continue to teach bro....God help you
You are a great inspiration man. Keep it up.
So useful! Thank you!

I can do fairly clean muscle ups but couldn’t do the pullover until yesterday, and man, the first time I got I squashed my balls so hard
That is so weird. Pullover is easy for me, but I cannot do a muscleup.
@@jakemccoyme2 pullover easy musle up heart not yet and handstand hard one by one will learn

I got it right away doing the pullup before the leg raise like shown here. Doing them simultaneosly, like some other guides show, didn't work for me.
I have trouble with this move. Idk why but my hesitates and I can’t time my wrist Turning
You need to be pretty good at pull ups and leg raises to be able to do this, so not really a beginner move, is it?

intersting technique. i will try!

You just need to bend from the middle for this in order to pass the bar. No special mobility.
And there I thought, a bar pullover was something to wear when you go out for a drink 😆
How long should it take to learn each skill
Straight Handstand
Front lever
Back lever
I need to train toe to bar first

This isn't beginner calisthenics, Simon. Most people in the world can't even do one pull-up.
