You are so right. I have always dreamed about my channel blowing up but over the past year I have come to the sad realization that it’s just not going to happen BUT I’m still moving forward and just putting out the best content I can. Love this hobby. Great topic for discussion sir!
Same folks who can't handle their feelings being hurt or a difference in opinion without having a life crisis are the ones with the attention span of a match stick. This short form stimulation content is self perpetuating and addictive. Look at these kids who have multiple tablets and media going at once, they can't handle anything less than instant over gratification nowadays. RUclips wants money not quality, they push whatever they can abuse into profit and distort into the slop consumed by mindless zombies they want as consumers.
Tik Tok-ification - I might have to borrow that. I enjoy the heck out of long form content. As long as it keeps flowing. And it's how I edit my own videos. I really don't care for short-form stuff, unless it's got a specific purpose.
You make a lot of good points! Even at my size, if someone is creating good videos, I shout them out. Not in every video, and not more than a few per video, and it has to pertain to the content OF the video I'm recording, but it's a way to share the up-and-comers, as I like to think of them. I think it helps.
Thanks Dan for your thoughts about social media and your audience on you tube. No doubt there is a wide variance of wants,tastes, and needs of RUclips viewers. Your channel appeals to who it appeals to. “Is what it is”, as an overused descriptor. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is out there for sure, ask any educator. Ask yourself am I in it for the $ money? Or am I trying to create quality content that appeals to a segment of viewers that like it for their own reasons. It might lead to something more meaningful and profitable in the future. Part of the creative mind is not to get bogged down in trendy ideas, but to anticipate what the next “thing” might be. Most important is to produce what you would enjoy watching. You will be fine!
I certainly appreciate your videos and watch almost everything you post. What I like is your honesty and integrity when presenting your content. You present the good and bad along with your opinions as to why you like or dislike something. I also have noticed that for myself I generally stay away from videos more than 20 minutes long because I limit myself to about an hour of content while I’m having breakfast (I’m retired so I don’t have to rush). I don’t any social media because I believe they suck to much time from life! Instead of spending so much time watching videos of people living their lives I’d rather spend the time living mine! I’m not opposed to social media as a whole because there’s plenty of good content that is worth watching, unfortunately the algorithms don’t always present that to viewers. I’ve noticed my own RUclips feed has changed a lot, presenting me content I have no interest in and forcing me to go find my subscriptions to channel I like myself. It’s getting ridiculous!
TikTok appears to feed the mentally ill with short videos for those with short attention spans…
I'm not a creator and only come to you tube to learn. I found you when I bought my 2022 Ford 150 but I agree. I've been subsribed to your channel for a couple of years and your stuff just doesn't pop up. I have to search it out. I really don't like the shorts, but they come up more and more every day. Very sad!
I appreciate that, I am somewhat annoyed at new(ish) recommendation driven algorithm over channels we specifically subscribe to. It’s a bummer to hear that kind of feedback because I experience the same thing as content consumer as well.
TikTok and shorts have fostered short attention spans, in my opinion.
