This is the approach I would take, too. Given the aggressive breed and the video proof of the previous event that illustrates the breed's behavior, you should have no issues with legal action to resolve the situation.
The cops told me unless the dog is actively at large, I have to call animal control. Animal control says all they can do is issue citations. It seems crazy that they can't do more.

Thank you for this video, but please do not under any circumstances, LET YOUR GAURD DOWN. My best friends wife last winter got mauled by a pit bull attempting to pick up her grand daughter from a friend's house. In tow, she had her brand new puppy, named Ollie. Her grand daughters loved that dog dearly. The mother of the "friend" had opened the door not knowing where her dog was. The pitbull ran through the door, and immediately grabbed the young pup, and started vigorously shaking it. As soon as the pitbull let go, (startled by the screams of horror), My buddies wife had attempted to conceal the dog using her own body as protection. The dog hesitated for a few seconds until it bit onto her calf muscle and continued to shake it. The entire time she was screaming for this woman to call off her dog! It has been about 7 months. She has had several surgeries, skin graphs, infections, and bouts of immense pain. Pitbulls are dogs that can be extremely dangerous with the wrong people. If your senses are reminding you to be aware, take heed, for a situation can and will happen when you least expect it. My friends wife is ok now, but with a disfigured leg, and nightmares for the foreseeable future.
That is a horrifying story and I can appreciate how fast things can go from totally fine, to a near attack in a split second. You point out another terrifying component in this scenario which is these owner who feel their dogs are super sweet tend to freeze up in shock and don't know how, or are completely incapable of pulling their dog off and the people who are on the receiving end are left with no help at all. So sorry to hear that story however happy to know she's "okay" albeit probably mentally scarred for life beyond the physical.
It's hard to say from the video whether the dog actually wants to attack or just play. Sometimes even in person you don't know whether it's play or fight until it happens. The problem in my eyes isn't the dogs at all. It's an irresponsible owner. I've lived in my neighborhood for over 13 years and I have 4 big dogs. I don't let my dogs run around like this and if I'm bringing them to or from the car they are all on a leash with the exception of my service dog which, leash or not, does not leave my side. I can understand a dog getting out accidentally every once in a while (mine never have). It comes down to training the dogs what is acceptable and what isn't. The owner just can't let his dogs run around knowing damn well they don't do what they are supposed to. If you have to shoot a dog it won't be the dogs fault. It will 100% be the owners.
@@keithbyers2439 totally agree with you. I tried really hard to get him to understand this whole concept but it didn’t seem to sink in nor did animal control citations seem to help either.
It would be a pain in the @ss, but it is possible you could get an injunction or a restraining order from a judge to prohibit him from having his dog off lease within a certain distance. If he were to violate that, I suspect a court could seize the dog.
if you are worried about killing the dog buy a byrna and pepperball the lil bastard or put up a 5 inch high electric fence around your yard one or two pops from that fence i doubt you will see that dog in your yard again and i'm in Surprise and have a electric fence built for handling pmu horses and cattle hit me up i'll let you borrow it for a few days! hopefully y'all are safe and good job protecting your baby girl!
You're not the a-hole. Our neighborhood is awash in unleashed dogs. My wife got bit, I've been bit while cycling, and there have been multiple other incidents of off-leash dogs biting kids, attacking other dogs, etc. Universally, these are prefaced with "Don't worry, he's friendly!" I can't figure out why people are willing to take the risk of animal control potentially putting the dog down due the owner's stupidity. My only conclusion is that their heads are somewhere deep, dark and warm...
That was one of the points I made to my neighbor was “I don’t want to shoot your dogs, and if you love your dogs, you wouldn’t want that either. Just put them on a leash”. It seems so simple, I truly can’t grasp why people don’t get it. It’s also frustrating because MY dog who’s leashed doesn’t like being approached by other dogs. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to shout “UNFRIENDLY, UNFRIENDLY”. If your unleashed dog is incredibly well trained, fine, but these people who just grab a dog from the pound, bring it home, and let it roam are insane to me.
Totally agree and any sensible dog owner would of been honest with himself and realised the risks and unpredictable nature of his dogs along time ago and put a lead on the dogs when outside like come on how hard is it , you can clearly see your trying to be respectful in that conversation but I agree a man's gotta protect his family
It's shocking to me that he wasn't embarrassed, apologetic, and immediately changed his behavior. I would feel so terrible if my dog went after anyone even if it were just to "play" which this obviously wasn't.
I am between giving up reporting, or just reporting every single day until it stops all while still being prepared to handle the situation if my family or anyone else in the neighborhood is at risk of injury.
13:29 - I just wanted to let you know that you have nothing to apologize for in this statement. Unless an animal is being abused by a human, I will always put a human's well-being ahead of any animal's.
Hey bud, let me reassure you that you are clearly reasonable in the way you assessed the situation. This dude should give his head a shake and control his dogs, it seems he places a high value on projecting an image or demonstrating power~ compensating perhaps?
I think overall you're correct is how you have interpreted this situation. I'm guessing you don't have an HOA? I'm with you about not wanting to be put into a situation where you would have to use your gun. Have you considered the possibility of carrying pepper spray or a taser instead? I would be really concerned about shooting in a neighborhood because in a stress situation, like trying to protection your daughter while this dog is charging, how accurate can you be? At least with a taser or pepper spray you have one less thing to worry about and that's wondering where all the bullets went that you discharged. I've been attacked three times while walking my dog. The first one happened so fast I wasn't able to react until the dog was on my dog! Just like you stated in your video, I don't think I would've had time to pull my gun if I was carrying it at the time. Since that first attack I started carrying a old wooden police baton and I've used successfully to prevent the last two attacks. I've since added pepper spray to my gear. After seeing your video, I'm getting more spray to keep in my vehicles and on my Harley's. Unfortunately in some places it's getting worse for those of us just trying to enjoy the outdoors!
All very valid points. I’ve considered a taser and pepper spray but those are both super close quarters tools and if I have the opportunity to stop a charging dog before it’s 5 feet from me, I want that option because once it gets you, your ability to grab anything is potentially gone. The gun does have significant risks as well but it seems like the only distance tool. I might consider adding a taser too but I also don’t want to wander the neighborhood looking like I’m playing police officer either.
@@GearsGadgets Hey Dan, I thought about Bear spray. It seems to shoot farther, and more of a straight line. I'm pretty sure that one spraying will cure that dog. I'm hoping for a good update video. Take care of your family. Regards, Lindsay
What cameras do you have? Good audio and recording. Move out of the city if you can. My neighbor is 1/2 mile away, but we still had a home invasion recently in the area. Stay armed no matter where you are. 🇺🇸 Do you have a GSP? Looks like it. I do too.🐶
The original shots were taken on Nest cameras which are pretty 💩 but the newer videos are from Lorex cameras which are 4K IP cameras. Pretty much all of them need a little bit of audio enhancement in post and Lorex tech is kind of hot trash but the camera are solid.
Dogs need to be leashed up in public period. Common sense and courtesy. Some people are just too dense to understand things. They are animals and can act out unpredictably. Guy needs to keep control of his dogs. Horrible and unacceptable
Yes, your dogs aren't other peoples responsibility or liabilities. Seems unacceptable to continue that behavior after someone voices opposition especially after a close call.
Hmm.... definitely not the ahole. Might be time to get the dog warden involved. If for no other reason than to create a paper trail in case this dog does attack another animal or person.
I have reported it to Animal Control on a few occasions and he has been cited for it, seems nobody in law enforcement cares unless the dogs are actively or have already killed someone. This video also serves as part of the paper trail if the behavior doesn't change. I wanted to have it clearly documented and also possibly have a neighbor that he likes tell him "Hey man, cool it with the dogs"
He many not know he is civilly liable for his dog’s actions. If the dog bites he will be sued and could lose everything if he does not have a home insurance policy. When people learn they could lose their house in a lawsuit they change their behavior quickly. You’re trying to help him not ruin his life.
Yeah I’m not sure how that doesn’t sink in. The risk isn’t worth the reward. I’m not even sure what the reward even is aside from being too lazy to grab a leash.
Instead of using a gun what if we stepped back and looked at using a taser on it. Just a thought. And like for me I have a two pup lab who loves everyone butt when she comes out of the backyard she just wants attention but some people don't know this. And yes your daughter and wife come first because what would happen if you were not there. And I would go after the animal control department.
The problem with tasers and pepper spray is that they don’t always work and can actually end up further agitating a dog which isn’t something I’m super worried about. In terms of my wife, because of her job, she carries also and is a better shot than me. The whole situation just sucks and I wish I didn’t have to talk like this about my front yard.
Dan, you are not the a** hole. You have been more than responsible/reasonable. Keep calling animal control/police but try to get video footage of every incident. Get a camera, that faces the neighbors house, and set it up so it faces towards the neighbors house that way you get a better view not just from your doorbell camera. Your city should have a nuisance pet ordinance. Look it up, have it on your phone for quick reference and bring it up to whatever officer responds. Also see if your city has a code enforcement officer. Like someone who commented here, take him to court if you have no other choice. A judge can issue an injunction/restraining order. That’s where a video camera pointed towards the neighbors house comes in, to have video evidence of violations. Good luck brother. Sorry this is so long.
No need to apologize for the length, I appreciate the insight for sure. Also appreciate the support, this has been driving me NUTS for a few years now.
Acting maturely and responsibly, even when others behave poorly, is incredibly difficult but something I take seriously, especially in this landscape of social media. I can’t share that kind of information out of respect for privacy and the potential risks involved.
My concern is having confrontations with your neighbors and that you carry a gun. The ability to walk away. You never know how people will react. Including yourself.
Totally understand that perspective, gun ownership is a serious thing and people who don’t have great self control should really consider their ability to keep cool. When you carry, you should ALWAYS have a de-escalation mindset first. With that said, being mauled by dogs and trying to fist fight my way out isn’t really an option for me either. It makes me angry that this is the scenario that has been created by a careless neighbor and I would love for it to change for the better.
If I didn't live in the desert I would be more interested in the country. To me the country in Arizona is just too much desert. The "country" to me is acres of lush green trees, not cactus and sand.

That’s an idea. I might look into that.
if you are worried about killing the dog buy a byrna and pepperball the lil bastard or put up a 5 inch high electric fence around your yard one or two pops from that fence i doubt you will see that dog in your yard again and i'm in Surprise and have a electric fence built for handling pmu horses and cattle hit me up i'll let you borrow it for a few days! hopefully y'all are safe and good job protecting your baby girl!
I think your neighbor is ignorant and self centered. I hope things change for the better.
Thanks.
You will have a easier time moving the Grand Canyon then you will getting that guy to get the point.
@@oxyfee6486 unfortunately that seems to be the case.
You have warned them of the consequences of their actions so I would just ignore them stop making calls and handle the situation if it arises.
I am between giving up reporting, or just reporting every single day until it stops all while still being prepared to handle the situation if my family or anyone else in the neighborhood is at risk of injury.
@@GearsGadgets I suggest just keep your cameras rolling and handle any threat as you deem necessary.
Of course he owns a Ram, they're the Altima of trucks.
13:29 - I just wanted to let you know that you have nothing to apologize for in this statement. Unless an animal is being abused by a human, I will always put a human's well-being ahead of any animal's.
Appreciate that
Hey bud, let me reassure you that you are clearly reasonable in the way you assessed the situation. This dude should give his head a shake and control his dogs, it seems he places a high value on projecting an image or demonstrating power~ compensating perhaps?
Pet Semetary
Not sure what that means.
@@GearsGadgetsI think he means the movie “Pet Cemetery “ let’s hope you don’t have to put the dog there.
11:01 Yeah. Zoie should be taught who her friends are
I think overall you're correct is how you have interpreted this situation.
"I've instructed myself"
I was really struggling for words at that moment trying to remain calm yet also wanting to completely unleash in anger.
@@GearsGadgets Dan,...I felt your pain at that moment. 😡
Well put together. Seems pretty simple to me
Thanks.
Collapsible tactical Batton. I am all too familiar with your situation. No discharge to worry about and will quickly disable.
Good luck, however there is little hope your neighbor will change
Thanks and unfortunately you are probably correct.
Hmm.... definitely not the ahole.
I noticed both his dogs are limping, hope he's not doing anything sketchy with them
Interesting observation, I didn't see that.
What is his name, address, and phone number
Acting maturely and responsibly, even when others behave poorly, is incredibly difficult but something I take seriously, especially in this landscape of social media. I can’t share that kind of information out of respect for privacy and the potential risks involved.
How many times are you going to fall for the old let my dog chase you back into the house? Leash it up and take it down a long dusty road
I’m not doing all that
Tipical pitbull and pitbull owneres, banpitpulls
Certainly isn’t helping the perception of pit bulls. I know diehard pit bull fans HATE people who do nothing to help change the perception.
My concern is having confrontations with your neighbors and that you carry a gun. The ability to walk away. You never know how people will react. Including yourself.
He also seems angry and obsessive
Totally understand that perspective, gun ownership is a serious thing and people who don’t have great self control should really consider their ability to keep cool. When you carry, you should ALWAYS have a de-escalation mindset first. With that said, being mauled by dogs and trying to fist fight my way out isn’t really an option for me either. It makes me angry that this is the scenario that has been created by a careless neighbor and I would love for it to change for the better.
Get out of the cities/suburbs move to the country.
If I didn't live in the desert I would be more interested in the country. To me the country in Arizona is just too much desert. The "country" to me is acres of lush green trees, not cactus and sand.
This is silly
