  • It might be tempting to pick up an inexpensive media cabinet from your local big-box store, but if you do, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. A good media cabinet or entertainment console should be a good blend of form and function, acting as a beautiful piece of furniture while serving up key features that will make your entertainment system look and operate its best. Here's what to look for when buying a media cabinet, featuring the BDI Corridor stand seen in Digital Trends' TV review videos.

    We were fortunate to have bought this model for 200.00 from an estate sale and the seller even was gracious enough to deliver the unit. I could never pay the retail price for this cabinet, but I must attest that this is a fine piece of furniture and it is well made, looks great and is just fabulous.

    IDK about the rest of ya, but after watching this video, I'm legit considering just saving up for this *exact* TV stand. Sure, it's pricier than I'd like, but after seeing just how handsome it is, build materials used, ease of use features, and functional slats on the facade...this just checks all the boxes. I see this thing as a life-long investment, personally. One and done.

      Ross Huey I could buy one if I wanted too, but I just don’t see any reason to spend that much on a TV stand. The touted features to me are it worth much. And you can get stands just as attractive for much less. Now if you’ve got a very nice audio system that you want hidden it would be nice. Still very overpriced though for what’s no doubt a Chinese made piece of furniture. $800-1k is where is should be priced. But there are always people that have more money than sense.

      Wayyyyyyyyy over priced for us regular consumers ! I’ve see plenty of SOLID WOOD stands at the $600 - $1,000 price point, heck with the price of this stand it would cost more than the Sony X950G I’m considering.

    Gorgeous cabinet, great design, and quality materials. With a price to match, but if you want quality, you have to pay for quality. Wish I'd seen this two weeks ago, I'd have bought it immediately! Hopefully the console I did buy will work well enough for me.
    (If you don't care about fine solid wood furniture, by all means, head straight to IKEA, and spend your money on something else. Nothing wrong with that. But also nothing wrong with wanting to buy something that will last longer than a couple years, and look truly fantastic the entire time, either.)

    Y'all complaining about the cost forget... it's a different world for rich folk. 3K for a solid piece of furniture for high end gear ain't squat.
    My only complaint with this video is he should have led with.. "looking for an ultra high end stand? I got you covered." or used it in the title.
    Is working type (and arguably the ones watching this video) would rarely be able to spend the $$$ on an item like this, especially when similar (albeit of lesser quality) ones could be had much cheaper.

    Looks great, but if you have a really expensive centre channel you certainly do not want to hide it behind wood. It almost certainly affects frequencies, if not audible then certainly measurable. In high end Home Cinemas you even use special acoustically transparent fabric, I would never put my KEF R600c behind a wood panel.

The hidden wheels are a really nice feature found on many of our cabinets, making it a lot easier to move it away from the wall and access connections through the sliding/removable rear-access panels, which also help with the flow-through ventilation that keeps gaming consoles and AV components cool. Elliott Waddick problem is most of its made in China, or some third world country, by people getting $1/hour if their lucky. And it doesn’t take some very high tech factory to produce it, or well paid engineers to design it. Unlike say a high end TV, or even a nice laptop, that requires requires research, design, high tech manufacturing, and after sale tech support. Yet a regular wood and metal piece of furniture coats just as much? Right. They have some absurdly high mark up is what’s going on.

      The "Tripp Lite 12 Outlet Bench & Cabinet Power Strip" fits perfectly, and I'm pretty sure that's what he's using in the video. Available from amazon, etc.

    Has anyone had any issues with this cabinet with any gaming consoles? PS4/Xbox? I want to make sure if I buy one that it wont ruin my electronics. Even with the ventilation system I'm afraid it would get too hot

    I built a 6 wide besta ikea tv stand wall mounted and fully vented for under a grand with glass doors. No way this is worth the price but it’s good for people not wanting to hack and customs do their tv setup. It’s easy to add ventilation to a tv stand if you know what you’re doing.

      Will last as long as you treat it well. It’s not like it just falls apart over time. I reinforced everting.

      Ross Huey keep that piece till you die. It’s not for me. I wanted a fully custom made part the way I wanted it to look. I needed 140” of space for all my stuff. Again, it will last as long as I want. I don’t prefer this look. I like black glass doors. I have fans throughout.

    The link to the product in Amazon is for a 7129 model which is not the model that they reviewed in this video. The 7129 does not come with removable back or hidden wheels. The correct model is a 8129 and is roughly 400 dollars more expensive. I did not find this out until after I had already ordered the model, and it arrived at my house three weeks later. Heads up if you’re actually thinking about buying this product and utilizing the link in the comments.

    Can you be more specific. BDI makes 3 different Corridor models: 8173, 8179, and SV 7129

    • @bdifurniture
      @bdifurniture 5 лет назад +3

      Hi Kenneth,
      Thanks for your questions! This model is the award-winning Corridor 8179, which is a more spacious unit and ideal for larger home theater systems.
      The 8173 is very similar, however, it's a lower profile for those who like their cabinets closer to the floor (more modern/Danish aesthetic, with low couches, etc.).
      The SV is a slim profile and is perfect for those who have a more streaming-based or compact set-up (aka not intended to house large AV components) for gaming consoles, AppleTV/FireTV, soundbar, etc.
      Thanks again for asking!

    It looks great, but dust settles immediately and very visibly on the glass surface, the door handles and the slats. You can wipe the glass and watch as particles settle on it immediately. I don't live in a particularly dirty/dusty environment.

    'Very useful informative video', why is it we look at these kind of videos after we've purchased the product, lol not that I'm regretting my purchase, mine is an extremely low profile AV cabinet, click on the cat twice to take a look/listen !

    WOW WHAT A BUNCH OF CHEAPSCAPES
    quality furniture costs money - you get what you pay for- It is the centerpiece of my family room so I wanted quality and got it with the BDI Sweep - which hold my 65” OLED TV, Martin Logan soundbar, cable box/dvr, Oppo 4K disc player, Auralic Altair streamer, Outlaw audio receiver, there are shelves on both sides I keep cds and dvd’s stored. Why put good components in a crappy piece of furniture or have wires running all over the floor?

      Big facts, you are telling NO lies, you get what you pay for, I love both my BDI Cavo 8168 Graphite & BDI Ola 8137 White, BDI is affordable and a step above the rest period!

    Good review. But lost me at glass top, not to mention the link does not sell them or even give you prices. (If it is that hard to find a retailer, why even bother with a review?)

    • @bdifurniture
      @bdifurniture 5 лет назад

      You can find a retailer near you, including at many Best Buy Magnolia Design Centers at www.bdiusa.com/retailers, in addition to many online retailers like Wayfair.
      The glass is an incredibly smooth and durable black satin-etched tempered top.
      Thanks!
