Before watching this video, I didn't know the story of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, but thanks to a recommendation from one of my mods on Twitch, I learned about some legendary women and heard an incredible song! One of History that many never will have know, if it have not been for Sabaton! . And may I say The Attack of the Dead Men. is one more of them ; ) .
That the commissar took it upon herself to find the crashsides of each of 'her girls' always gets me.

@@isaiahwelch8066 Yes, her influence on Stalin was key to form the all women pilots regiments! She had a State Funeral and was buried in the Kremlin wall.

If you want to experience Sabaton live you should give en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) Scandinavium Gothenburg ago. it is the Swedish version of the song so you should turn on the subtitles (even though they are kind of a hit and miss on some of the translations.

This is one the reasons why I find the fact that paradox interactive released sabaton music as dlc for hearts of iron 4 so funny, it's just perfect.

These women couldn't even wear rigs because they would had added too much extra weight, and were too bulky. Imagine going into war with an old, slow, rickety plane and not even having a parachute. Their only secondary defense were pistols FFS. It's absolutely crazy.
Wanted to add - one reason their commissar wanted to find & document her "lost girls" was that in the USSR, those that were shot down and captured - or listed as MIA - were considered traitors. Many (regular Soldiers - not just Night Witches) were sent to the gulags upon returning to their own armies.
Those who escaped POW camps - same thing - off the the gulag. So, by finding the resting place (the crash site) she "exonerated" her girls from the stigma.
It was what it was.

@WallyTheBandit: This story is now truly history, as the last Night Witch was laid to rest in 2017.

Edit: The woman who went around, looking for the crash sites was not a squadron commander, she was the regiment's commissar -- the equivalent of a colonel in an infantry unit. But Wally, now that you've reacted to this, I recommend reacting to Defense of Moscow -- another well-made music video.

Another great story lost to history and not found in the dusty history books many of us were taught with. Lost but not to Sabaton who bring these women's valor and courage to the forefront and remind us all the price that war costs and that there are those who are willing to pay that price when needed. These women were treated like so many vets, thanks for your service now get lost!!! I am sure these pilots could fly what ever planes were in the Victory Parade if they were given the chance, the leaders get to celebrate the glory that these women brought and they couldn't even share in it!!
