      All good things to those who wait, I had completely forgot about this after looking back a few times for a higher res (and better sound) version. Chuffed to see a fellow Welshman tearing it up and one I'll be looking to see live next time their on home turf.

      hello, Chris Buck has a really cool pedalboard that you can lift the pedal surface lid up to reveal more pedals underneath, can you tell me what pedalboard is that and where can I get one?

    My favorite TPS yet. I discovered Chris when searching for a good Leslie pedal a few years back. Saw his video on the Mini Vent and have been a fan ever since. I love it when even after 25 years playing guitar, there are people who’s playing is magical and inspiring. Loved all the joking around on this one too!

    I sadly preferred the Silver Sky sound during the pickup switchoff. I also preferred Chris’s pickups to the fenders.

    I totally borrowed those e major licks he played at the start. He has some great go-to phrases for improvising. Before this guy, major scales didn’t really appeal to me (typical minor scale guy here) but after discovering this dude I sat down with my guitar and watched him for countless HOURS trying to decipher his playing, pausing, rewinding, hitting play again, repeat. Hours! Totally payed off - this guy has a lovely style. I still have his Friday Fretwork lessons sitting in my “watch later” list too. He’s just such a nice dude and it really comes across in his playing.

    2 years later, and a year+ of following him, there is absolutely no reason why Chris Buck shouldn't be more famous. He is a player's player, undoubtedly, but his sound, style, and (maybe more importantly) choices in musicality are nothing less than crowd-pleasing genius. He hits every chord change and modulation perfectly. Nowhere in his original intros/outros are there points when a good listener can say, "There was a missed opportunity in that lick." He nails everything, much like a current monolith whose name rhymes with Fawn Sayer. His style is unique, his melodies and harmonies are effortlessly well-developed, and he has a grace with the instrument that is unparalleled.

    Chris Buck has the most amazing tone I've ever heard. I can only describe it as "perfect". I'm a Strat/Tele player myself and I have never heard any of my Fenders sound like that. I'm going to say that thing that many frustrated guitar players hate to hear (or read, in this case) but here it goes... that tone is in his hands. It's the only way.

    He is so good in such a different way takes his time makes everything ring each note sounds just as good as the other he has some of the best touch ive hesrd and the way his brain processes licks is so unique I love his style very unique and very very technical but such good feel makes it look so relaxed zi always feel like players that dont look like there forcing or squeezing to hard are the best players because there comforatable on the neck and evrrything falls into place very smoothly

    At least my third watch through of this, and I honestly can’t remember a single episode where Dan is so quiet.
    I was extremely lucky to spend a little time with Chris after one of the gigs on the tour, talked a little gear and stuff, and my goodness what a super friendly guy. Of course gig wise, the band are on fire, and Chris AND Sally Anne (the Evans of Buck&Evans) lifted the roof off the place yet again.
    This with Chris, Matt Schofield, Josh Smith, Joey, Ariel, this is the best alternative tv channel EVER.

    When he was a “Les Paul guy”, he needed a guitar and an amp. Now that he’s a “Strat guy”, he uses a wide range of pedals. Is there a correlation?

    • @adamnichols2762
      @adamnichols2762 6 лет назад +10

      Yes!!!! I am a Strat, Tele, and Les Paul player and there does seem to be a correlation there!!!! Les Pauls played through any blackface-fender have a dynamic response to die for. Teles hang right there with the Les Paul (in my experience) and only need maybe some delay or reverb to add some dimension. Strats seem to have the Most Dynamics, BUT, lack quite a bit in dimension. I always seem to go back to my Strat though. It seems that players who have grown up playing them always deal with the downside because the upside is SO GOOD!!!! Another thing, Strats (being so low in output) seem to really play well with all types of pedals and I think that this may be the best explanation.

    • @Pudge4400
      @Pudge4400 3 года назад +1

      Well... in all honesty, there ARE a lot of pedals that sound glorious with a Strat that get too woolly and thick with a LP.

    Lovely stuff gents. I’ve been a fan of Chris and his Friday Fretworks channel for a short while now and he possesses one of the sweetest vibratos in the biz. My fave part of the show however was at around 27 mins where Mick is borrowing Dan’s lead for a moment to play then without even glancing at Mick, Dan mutes his guitar channel and Mick waits for him to do it before they swap the lead back. That level of sympatico is a small thing but it’s a joy to watch.

    Holy shit!
    That was fabulous. Probably the best since Graham which was the best since Joey.
    The different od pedals set almost the same resonates with playing live venues in London and then at festivals: remarkable advice.
    It also filled a gap muchly left hollow where the cleanish sound could breathe.
    Chris' playing leaves me with a dichotomous feeling of inspiration and hopelessness that I will never be anywhere near his touch and technical skill. Much like watching the Woodstock Hendrix film where his fingers run like a fresh, clear spring water over the fretboard with nary a wasted note.
    He's also pointed me to try and make my Dyna Comp work for me - after years of failed experience!
    Great vid guys. I really liked the CE1 broken vid on TC.
    Paul

    • @ThatPedalShow
      @ThatPedalShow  6 лет назад +4

      Hey Paul, Mick here. Just wanna say that I feel the same in terms of inspiration/ hopelessness. It happens every time and I’ve been doing this, sat with guys on this level, for 20 years. Michael Landau, Robben Ford, Matt Schofield, Philip Sayce, Peter Green, Bonamassa,, Paul Gilbert.Satch, Vai, Nuno... etc etc etc.... sorry for the name drops. If I can do that thing where I’m offering you advice but actually telling myself (in a terrible selfish manner)... just be yourself. Be inspired by these guys, but do what’s in your heart and ONLY that. And then it doesn’t matter; there is no comparison. You’re you, you’re unique and if you really mean it, people will care.
      A little bit heavy. But this shit is important. :0))

Sounds just like the MBB (because it is) but is even more open sounding due to the nicer components. $150 new, about $100 used on Reverb. If you love the MBB, you will wanna marry the WBTG.

    As someone who lives in Hong Kong with no TV other than TPS, Andertons and Apple TV (!), this channel is a godsend. And having seen pretty much all TPS shows I keep coming back to this episode. It’s just...brilliant. What a wonderful guest - funny, hugely talented, self-deprecating. So British! And as always, Mick and Dan just masters of their craft. Beers all round!

    Recently got into Chris Buck, hat a player. Love the fact that there are still players coming through that have their own style. Weird to think he was a Slash devotee because I don't get this from his playing, he's something special
