Great album, Classic! I miss Chuck. We were really good friends back in the day. Chuck moved into our fan club president's house between Mantas & SBG and we used to sit around sharing riffs and partying hard. Chuck was so fucking cool and amazingly talented. I just wish he were till around. RIP Chuck. ~Jeff Becerra/Possessed~

It's so awesome reading stories from back in the day. SBG and Seven Churches were the first metal albums I got my hands on from my cousin, when I was like 10 years old :P I always thought there is a connection in the sound of Possessed and Death. Cheers!

The first time I seen them live "Scream Bloody Gore" tour there was so few people at the show all of us were on the stage and they played for us live. It was like a personal jam for friends. I know its hard to believe but a 100% true story. Nobody heard of them at that point. I went to the show cause of their flyer I seen on wall of the club a week prier during another show. Death was so fucking incredible and so nice and down to earth and so fucking loud omg. they gave all of us their Scream Bloody Gore Cd's. I still have it to this day. The next time they came was the "Leprosy" tour and that place was fucking jammed packed as you can get it and had the biggest pit I've ever seen in such a club. I MISS THOSE DAYS. Miss my youth :( Rest In Peace Chuck Thank you so much.

Not ONLY one of the best metal albums ever recorded, but also one of my favorite pieces of album art ever. Like look at that: skeleton dudes in cultish robes hanging out in a dark, dank tomb. Cozy lighting. And I love the purple shade the one in the throne is wearing. You just don't see this type of nice scene anymore on albums these days.
The sound, the technicality, atmosphere, and thematic style is just superb. I thoroughly enjoy death metal which treads equally in grotesque gore, occult mysticism, and instrumentation which is at once ferocious, yet intricate and still preserving some good sense of chord progression and melody. This delivers just that.

One of the best OG Death Metal albums. Without Chucks influence (Possessed also), albums like slowly we rot by Obituary, Legion by Deicide or Eaten back to Life by Cannibal Corpse would have never exhisted to help create the Death Metal we all love today, past and present.
RIP Chuck, the King of Death Metal straight up in my humble opinion.

I still can't get over how the man went through so many different styles of vocals with all of them sounding so different but none of them sounding anything short of amazing. I still don't know how he did that style on The Sound of Perseverance. I don't think I've ever heard anyone come close to mimicking it, either. Well, maybe Vektor, but that's it. And that's just his singing! The dude was also tearing it up on guitar while doing that! Some of the most influential stuff in the metal world. Chuck was wild.

      A. Od-Reszki Morbid angel is crucial, especially the first 4 albums IMO. Also highly rate Edge Of Sanity, they're very underrated. If you want to try something more technical Cynic, Obscura and Atheist are all amazing. Sort of a different genre all together but some amazing melodic death metal bands are In Flames (first 5 albums), insomnium, children of bodom, dark tranquillity and the first Wintersun album which is in my top 10 albums of all time :)

I remember first hearing this on Cobra Records in Winter 1987 in Canada. What a great album! I read in a magazine how good this album would be and it was - just look at the cover and read the song titles alone! Every song on this album is killer, so it's hard to pick favorites, but i'll go with 'Evil Dead'. Awesome times and awesome memories - SBG was sure a huge influence to me musically, no doubt!
