I love the way you walk us through the thought process to get that image, but your clients never know that you are working your way through a problem! The entire time, you are reassuring, positive, and confident while you move your clients to get the perfect image!!!

Katelyn, this is (yet another!) amazing video and an amazing explanation of your thought process. Thank you for sharing your expertise and experience so generously! I will be shooting my first ever wedding in a week, and l’m so happy that l’ve found your channel with all these treasures (because your videos are treasures!). Thank you! And btw: you’re amazing ❤

As I was watching you shoot, I was thinking to myself, "I wonder if she shoots this vertical because those rocks are cool, but too much for me" and then BAM! THAT was your favorite shot! I love when my thought process matches the teacher. Beautifully done, Katelyn, as always!

Great video! Loved how you broke everything down! I also loved how you addressed the people who feel like they have to throw in their negative comments. 😂
It takes a lot to put yourself out there, so you do you, Katelyn! You rock!

Totally agree with allowing the background to overexpose in order to simplify it and it's also more dreamy which I love for weddings and I do it as well.
I'm not sure how much space you had behind you, but you also could have brough both yourself and the couple further away from the stairs to get more separation/blur but those rocks would have still been there :)

This is a great video and love how you talk about walking yourself into the right composition. This is so helpful. And thank you for talking about your editing style. I know when I first saw your videos I was thinking what is this? And you kindly responded to my message explaining the style. Agreed that bringing the background into prominence would take away from the couple.

Love this so much! Great advice and I’ll use it with my families and seniors (I just don’t love weddings and only do them if I’m emotionally invested in the couple 😂). Thank you, KJ!

I agree, I think the distraction of having the background in focus would have taken away from the shot. It’s beautiful how it is!
I wonder how this would have looked shooting from the top of the stairs down where they stood 🤔

I love overexpose! And its sooo much easier to light the cuple in Edition up, because if you overexpose background they are not to dark.

I certainly agree with your comment about having the background blownout. It also adds to focus your attention on your subjects: the bride & groom. However, I feel all of your shots have the bride & groom washed out.

I'll give you two thumbs up. I think I would have placed them at the base of the stairway or in front of one of the rocks, Depending on lighting. Love your work.

There is a technique called the Brenizer Method that you use a 85mm to take a wide angle photo stitch them all together in Photoshop and it gives you this crazy medium format look. Ryan Brenizer came up with it. So you get that compression but with a 85mm.

Love your hair , it looks so nice and your pretty blue top. Its nice to see your videos, because I am feeling down about all of comments regarding artificial intelligence photography and the fact I her so many losing respect for the hard work that photographers have invested into the craft. I'm curious if you wore shorts under your cute black babydoll dress? I love how you keep the couple inspired as you photographed them . Three hours of shooting without a break sounds stressful , but I love the fact you mentioned shooting close to the stairs and I was thinking the same about the light distractions in the image. It just shows your human side , that you aren't perfect and you utilized this as a teaching tool. If I could shoot all day, I would . Love your videos.

Love it. I do have to comment on your elephant in the room, I didn’t realize hot toxic photography community can be. I’m a portrait and second shooter for weddings but also a travel physical therapist assistant. I join ever FB group I can find based on the cities I work in as a travel worker and when I read post/comments in peoples work or even my own it’s nasty. When people post for post for “CC” it’s like people are out for blood. They don’t try to help they are try to teach as if rules or creativity are limited or they just straight up degrade the photographer or the subject. Sucks to see.

Great video and the thought process that went into creating the image. On a side note, using over-the-ear headphones to listen to your video and it sounded like there was a rumble every now and then, just a little distracting.

    1) 5:16 actually, you didn’t move around, you were standing literally in the same spot. At least what we saw in that short clip.
    2) you’re an extreme over shooter lol I think I counted 20 shots for the same forehead pose 😂
    3) 8:36 before you said anything about that photo, I thought it looked like she was wearing a cape, or that her veil was flowing. But it is a decent shot overall
    4) 11:37 I appreciate the Clase Azul reposado tequila bottle design sure you’re wearing. It’s 🔥

The background is better blurred, no doubt about that. But the price to crop out the rock is losing about half her body (exactly half if her center of mass is on the bottom frame line).

Hi Katelyn I love your videos I just ran into your page. I have a legit question... How you you ACTUALLY WITH DETAILS get your absolute very first engagement or wedding job WHEN YOU NEVER DONE IT. This is is a discussion that has never once been explained without someone trying t plug their coaching plans in and telling me to subscribe to some nonsense that does not really teach you exactly how nor gets to the point. I'm a professional by trade photographer but I'm tired of shooting models and I know I'm worth a lot more than "TFP". Can you please guide me in the right direction that won't lead me to spend $550 on a consulting package to only be told "you have to keep going and stay at it". Thanks
