  • I met with Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson on the transformation of Air India since the TATA group takeover. We discussed about new aircraft orders, existing aircraft retrofit, all the changes and challenges to revive Air India.
    Mr Wilson gave the latest update on project Vihaan.AI. (Air India Transformation). The airline is in the process of consolidating four airlines (Air India, Air India Express, Air Asia India and Vistara) into one full-service and one low-cost airline. The CEO reacted to some skepticism about the changes.
    Then, I attended an Air India cabin crew training class to see it first hand about recruitment. Air India has over 100 batches of new cabin crew recruitment to support the unprecedented growth.

      Either way, Air india (just one airline in India) given orders worth 65 billion to companies in USA, France and UK, So jobless Americans and Brits can finally pay their rent! 65 billion is like the GDP of some European countries like Lithuania.
      Just a different perspective to the story!

    • @OG_Aviation
      @OG_Aviation Год назад +1

      @@AROMAL1123 You don't realize do you? Aircraft manufacturers are having difficulties with aircrafts right now, even if there is a demand they're struggling to meet that demand due to lack supplies for multiple reasons. For example, shortage of aircraft engines, due to engine manufacturers having same issues with meeting demands. Then there is issues and flaws within the aircrafts that are being produced that are forcing aircrafts being grounded. Then finally another important issue is the workers leaving the companies because of being treated unfairly and un-equally. So, even if there is a huge 65 billion or even 200 billion dollars worth demand manufacturers are still struggling. It's not always about the customers prospective but the sellers prospective as well.

    • @AROMAL1123

      @@OG_Aviation The industry that I work for (power grids -electrification) is facing the same problem, high demand and less supply. I’m yet to meet someone who is not excited about new market scenario. 100 years back automotive manufacturers faced same issues, people are giving up on horse carriages and shifting to cars, Henry Ford discovered assembly line then! Almost all commodities that we use have same stories behind it.
      If there are supply and production constraints, then supply and production will move to new locations. Last year my organisation recruited more than 1000 engineers, planning to open new factories and they are in new locations. So it’s not just about supply and demand, its more than that! You will agree that current supply constraints are temporary and no one will stop flying, won’t you? The whole supply chain system is rebalancing now!
      There will be more air travellers, new pilots, new airports, new aircraft types, new airlines in coming years, You and me will continue our discussions after five years here & we will see what happens next!

    Campbell Wilson comes across as an excellent appointment. No chest-thumping nonsense nor any wild predictions but focused on step by step improvements which are already being felt. As an Indian in NYC, I cannot wait to have a world-class option to visit friends & family. AI has already upped their frequency to 4 daily flights - EWR/JFK to DEL and EWR/JFK to BOM, some of which are on new-interior ex-DL 777Ls. Keep it up!

    What an opening glimpse into Air India. The CEO came off as legitimately positive that the new investors plans as not only possible, but already seeing the fruits of their labor. As he was listing the various phases of development, once he said a new IT system I knew it was set and match. I haven't had much face-to-face interactions with people from India, but spoken to many of my Indian colleges through work and they are the smartest and kindest people I have ever worked with. Very genuine. AI should have zero problems finding solid IT personnel. Lastly, the stewardess training program looks legit. And those women in training were not only absolutely beautiful, but smart and dedicated to becoming successful. Excellent video. Can't wait for the next one. Take care and blessings to you.
