One thing I’ve never seen in reviews that I would really love to point out is how much the inconsistency bothered me throughout all the books. Like the characters personalities motives and just everything about them changes in every book and one thing that’s always stuck with me is how (I think it was Tamlin who said that) mates were rare yet Rhys and Feyre are mates and Cassian and Nesta and Lucian and Elain. I just don’t understand why people say she’s an amazing author

And how SJM is bad at scaling power is SO true.
Olay I just got to the part about planks and I gotta say A 30 SECOND PLANK IS NOTHING (or at least for me)
What I’m saying is that when Feyre turned into a fae she mentioned she was stronger, faster, more keen (aka powerful)
So Nesta must have been the same way right? So how the hell does she struggle with a 30 second plank?😑

i wouldn't mind if she was just a bad author but her characters have no personality, take away their "tragic past and trauma" there's nothing left that's why whenever you point out that SJM can't write good characters her stans always say BUT FEYRE HAS PTSD,she uses very real and serious mental health issues as fcking plot devices and that pisses me off
for eg. Kaz from six of crows, his trauma is a part of him, but he's still the smartest, ambitious character, has a very real story and character development

also, the fact that it was supposed to take faeries decades to have children but feyre and vivian (however her name's spelt) are pregnant at the same time. conveniently lazy plot placement. and they could have just shipped nesta to therapy to "heal". sarah loves using the word heal. I find it funny how feyre spends so much time helping her people heal in acofas, and then proceeds to neglect her sister's trauma. sarah made her heroes the villains.

But there was chemistry there and I would have loved to see Nesta go to the Autumn Court with all her power and make all of Prythian bow at her feet! Even the dumb high Lord Rhysand.

  • @lv834

Honestly, what the inner circle did to Nesta is exactly what people do to severe alcoholics (like Nesta) in real life: take that person out of a toxic environment, have them sober up while keeping her busy while they have a chance to restructure their life and learn coping strategies.
The only thing that bothered me so much that I wanted to throw my book across the room was the pregnancy. The couple that wanted to wait a couple of centuries. The couple is just beginning to heal from their traumas. The couple, which values safety and consent, got Feyre pregnant in the most absurd, dangerous way possible. Like wtf. That's pure projection. Just because Sarah j Maas is happy with her son, doesn't mean Rhys and Feyre need to have the same life story to be happy.

Look at Aelin from ToG. She has been through worse, yet never once treated the people who love and cared for her like shit. I’m saying this because Nesta’s trauma is never and excuse for how she treat others. Yet people make it seem like it is. The first four books (the novella included) were silly and illogical but it was a guilty pleasure read. But this book was awful. I hated how people in the fandom blindly defended Nesta’s behaviour under the veil of “trauma” even though EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has more trauma than her. There was no plot and all the characters were assassinated for the sake of a poorly-written Nesta redemption story. The book felt like SJM was writing fan fiction. My entire good reads review of this book was a rant on why I hate Nesta and the book. Honestly, it was a painful read.

By letting her make her own decisions which was to drink and f*ck the trauma away the inner circle realized they had to intervene and make a decision for her. Yes they handled it horribly but what were they supposed to do? Get her a therapist? Like Nesta would even sit to have one therapy session 🙄. Nesta on the other hand…an abusive bitch who blamed Feyre for every bad thing she did. And I’m gonna be honest, Nesta doesn’t deserve Gwyn or Emerie, bc she’s so willing to treat them way better than she treats Feyre. Nesta is the victim.
Like half the time when people are calling her bitch it's actually for something they either: would applaud as badass if Feyre/Rhysand did it, or just straight up didn't happen. Just bc her trauma isn't pretty so many people hate on her. Seeing people justifying the actions/words of inner circle makes me loose faith in humanity. No empathy. Those are the same people who probably think homeless people/drug users did it to themselfs and don't deserve to be helped. SJM's brainwashed people into thinkingthe inner circle (and feysand especially) is the best, while they all are the most obnoxious, evil people I've ever read about. Tamlin is a saint compared to them. They did to Nesta what Tamlin did to Feyre, but this time it's worse bc it comes from her family, her blood.
If Rhysand showed up in acomaf and treated Feyre's trauma this way, what would they think?
Hating her just stinks like internalized misogyny.
People just swallow whatever SJM/Feyre says without thinking too much about it, bc they are horny for the bat guys. In SJM's world, every trauma can be cured by sex. It's disgusting and she should not be writing about "deep stuff" if she knows nothing. She did her character so dirty. She stripped Nesta of her power bc poor baby Rhysand was feeling threatened.
At this point, it's so clear that Feyre is Sarah, Rhysand is her husband and their child is SJM's child. The moment she had a child she added it to the series too.
There is so much wrong with this book/series. Talk about lost potential. Like Feyre and Nesta changing their bodies into a different species/ethnicity? Excuse me what.

I think one of the sisters should have died in ACOWAR. Sarah would never kill Feyre and I like Nesta so I would have killed Elaine. I don’t care anything about her character and I doubt making her mates to Lucien (someone I also don’t really care about, but slightly more than Elaine) will change that.
I like Nesta because she’s a hot mess and not a “perfect” character. Sarah writes Feyre/Rhys like “perfect” characters when they are both far from it. The audience is supposed to pretend they aren’t. Feyre reminds me of Elaina Gilbert in the Vampire Diaries. If you kno you kno 😂

She’s such a bad character…it’s just so annoying the way everyone marvels over her at the begging…Nesta this Nesta that you’re so powerful you’re Cauldron blessed you’re MVP ok boi
Then i absolutely expected to arrive in Velaris and be put into her place by ANYONE-Mor,Amren,Azriel,Rhys,but no,they just fed into this shitty raised 12 years old boy with hormonal issues who just can’t behave like a human being for once trope☠️
I just cannot forget the way Amren said sth like “okay boss bitch” in the third book when Nesta just acted DESPICABLY
Maas just creates an idiotic character(good Lord, her family was fucking starving and she woudnt even bother to cut some wood, let alone hunt or do something for her FAMILY) and paints an unrealistic image for young readers-that surely if you behave like a fucking wild animal and an idiotic bad behaved moody “queen” you’ll get your calm, tempered extremely good looking man to heal you and your immense amount of trauma
From the very first book, from exactly that paragraph with the wood i just HOPED i would never get to see her again…

In nesta character she is a bitch but people are justifying her behavior with her trauma by playing a victim card. Mor suffered so much than nesta, cassian did, rhys did, feyre did but they don't act like a bitch always. And about the whole feyre pregnancy thing when nesta tells about feyre is not bcz she loves her or cares for her if she did she would have told feyre when she knew about it. She used that sensitive information to win a argument over feyre i really hated her for that. And about feyre pregnancy issue mor, rhys, cassian, azriel, amren all knew it but they didn't tell her bcz they don't want to ruin her happeniess and plan to tell her when the timing was right . And at the end of the book when it's mentioned that rhys was shaken up after the birth I think it was going to be a turning point for him. We don't know what was happening in his mind when he did those things because the books wasn't in his POV.
And finally Rhys hatered of nesta stems from how she generally treats feyre. And given feyres pregnant his overprotectiveness is amplified.

Me just reading the books for the sex scenes👀. I read the throne of glass series and I loved them and thought ' oh well the rest of this author's books must be good too'. Oh how wrong I was...
