i think we LOVED rhys in ACOTAR series because we were reading from feyre's POV and therefore falling in love with him and now we were reading from Nesta's POV (who DOESNT like rhysand, at least in the beginning) and we're seeing him from a new light!

Rhys and Amren pissed me off in this book. But I know why they did. Usually we see from Feyre’s POV and we see Rhys as this amazing person (and he is) but after getting all of Nesta’s POV and what she’s been through and was going through it made me think Rhys and Amren were being too harsh on her. Like when they didn’t want to tell her she Made those weapons. Also I found Rhys being really harsh with Cassian (and Azriel in the bonus chapter). Like I get it he is their high lord but he is ALSO THEIR BROTHER???? So he needs to calm down. And the way he treated Feyre with the shield it was cute at first but it got old fast.

SJM writes about depression and PTSD so well. I hated Nesta in the first few books and this book really made me turn around on her. I really liked that she found her own IC and can’t wait to read more about The Valkyrie. I think the next book will be about Azriel.

Great review, love your videos! My reading experience was also a five stars. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy and assimilate to Nesta’s journey especially because I was one of those people who could not stand her personality. I knew she had things going on but the way she was portrayed in the past was so unlikeable that I wasn’t able to excuse her behavior especially with allowing her younger sister to go out in the world to basically provide for the entire family (you can say this was pre main Cauldron trauma and fathers death) so I didn’t really understand what she could have been going through to allow that to happen. However I like how they brought in the issues with her mom, it just makes so much sense for Nesta to be the way she is because she was brought up by someone who lacked that compassion for her daughters. With that said I absolutely loved her journey, it made me cry in a way that I haven’t cried in other books, like raw emotional tears that just touched my own life experiences and I am forever thankful for that and have a lot of respect for her character and journey now.
Now, Rhysand! Trust me when I say Rhys is one of my most beloved characters in the series, mainly because he allows Feyre to make her own choices and just loves her wholeheartedly. However, I relate 100% that he was portrayed like an alpha male ass throughout this book! I couldn’t understand why he was being a jerk the entire time...UNTIL I realized for the first time we were reading about him through a character who is not only not his mate...but also really dislikes him. I think Sarah also mentioned in an interview how interesting it was to write Rhys as not the main star in someone’s life. So that leaves us with maybe Rhys isn’t the perfect guy (like he is portrayed with Feyre) or maybe he was just being a bit more fae male protective because of the baby? I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt for now and see how he is portrayed in the next books. He didn’t sound any better in the additional exclusive chapters with Azriel though...and even with Cassian so I am a little worried that my perception was skewed through Feyre. Again, hope that’s not the case but it explains a lot of why he seemed so different to us. Regardless I still love all of these characters with my whole heart and will forever reread this series.
Love your videos thanks for allowing the space to get my thoughts out 😊❤️

I loved knowing how much this book meant to you. SJM blew my mind with how she wrote Nesta's book, (the hate over her doesn't matter lmao) because this book and the emotional rollercoaster it had me on was the best I've had this year. I never thought from hating Nesta, I'd come to love her as I knew her story even more~ LOL Rhysie annoyed me A LOT but when that last moment happened, I forgave him because he never knelt for anyone but Feyre and he just did in that scene! The smut in this book, since I read a lot of smut (>_>), it was normal for me, actually almost just the right amount. But I understand for non-smut readers it could be a bit too much. Great review! 100% agree with what you said. Things I really enjoyed other than Nesta's progression:
-THE HOUSE! (omg I need that)
    -Squad goals (Nesta, Gwen, Emerie)
    -Nesta's dancing scenes
-Cassian's personality (he definitely has my fav personality out of the 3 brothers)
    - Killian and Vivian are expecting!
    - Red shooting star (Aelin falling through the sky LOL)
Things I hope to see more of:
    - Nesta and Elain's powers
    - What really happened with Eris and Mor
    - Potential Az/Gwyn and Emerie/Mor 👀
    - I know people hate Tamlin but I feel like he's a lot like what Nesta was in the beginning and he just doesn't know how to deal with all his rage and hatred. Same with Eris.
    - That 4th Trove item seen vaguely by Nesta
    - More Valkyrie history
    - Az's mom and his hatred towards the Illryians (sort that out)
I could go on but these are the main ones for now.

Although you won't see this on such and old post, I agree with you on everything you spoke of. I just finished this book 10 minutes ago. Actually, I read all 5 in the last 7 days. I didn't even know I could read 3000 pages in a week. Beyond the sex coming at inappropriate times, and it sometimes and it seemingly feeling cut and pasted in the previous books. I found I could look past that annoyance for the bigger picture. I have already began to miss these people who have pulled me into their lives and maybe even their family. Thank you for this review.

Ahhh while I really didn't like this book (this baby got a 2* from me) it's always nice to hear your thoughts and to hear a book described from someone who loved it. It's always funny to me how we can all recognize very similar positives and negatives to a book and then our personal taste/how much the book personally impacts us ends up determining how much we love something. I'm like this with Ilona Andrews'/Joe Abercrombie books. Do they have problems? Yes, but I don't care and will always LOVE them with my soul lol.
SJM has been disappointing to me lately, but I'm giving the Throne of Glass series another shot! I dnfed the first book a long time back and gave up on the series, but hear from so many people that the 2nd book is much better and ACOTAR was my childhood so I'm excited to retry the series from the 2nd book I have a feeling I'll like it!
I also hated Rhysand in this book the entire way through was thinking ugh my guy WHYY what're you DOING. Also even though I didn't like this book, I still am so down to read an Azriel book he's a fav!! Anyways, loved that I discovered your channel and I've really been enjoying your videos. I think I've had a pretty similar reading experience to you; I pretty much agree with all of your points 😅.
I found it very confronting to read about some of the destructive things Nesta does to deal with her pain and see that I do some of them as well. I particularly relate to the feeling that those around her would never understand all the pain running through her; and because of that it's easier to push everyone away and even lash out at them. I think SJM did such a wonderful job showing how much effort it takes for you to break through those patterns.
The scenes with Nesta and Cassian hiking in silence were probably my favorite. I like to go run/hike when everything gets too much and completely dissapear in silence sometimes too 😅And then the eventual breakdown that follows - think we've all had some of those 😅
Anyway, like you I can't stop gushing about this book. I think it's such an empowering read for any woman who hasn't been able to walk the easy path in life. And while I love SJM's romances - I thinks Nesta and Cassian's relationship is really well done. It's so inspiring to see her rescue herself rather than depend on him to do it for her.
Can't wait to see what's next! Thanks for this amazing book review Brittany!

I had a very similar reading experience. I loved this book so much. I also related to it quite a lot. I read it at the same time as some of my friends, which made the experience even better. I feel the same about Azriel and Elain. (Elain has always bored me, so I would like to see what she could turn out to be. Azriel is very interesting, and I think I am leaning toward the new potential romance there from ACOSF.) I’m SO glad you mentioned Rhys. I don’t know how unpopular it is, but I felt the SAME way! He annoyed me so much in this book. I was so impressed by what SJM did in this book. It really blew me away (there were some things with the plot I wish had been more fine-tuned, but I can see how much she has improved as a writer, and this is my favorite book by her). I really liked Nesta from the other books, so I was happy to see her arc, especially her healing and her power. If I had a checklist for my favorite things in fantasy, SJM hit them all with this. I’m so happy you loved it too and we could gush about it!

The end annoys me in KoA we get Rhysand and Feyre which was awesome but with the harp they didn't get a Fae healer from Aelin's world which would be a good crossover as Aelin owes him for slowing her down but it doesn't wasted opportunity and Rhysands account of the red star was contractive
I liked and understood Nesta and related to how she felt from thorn and roses which to me was a twisted version of beauty and the beast like literally I was half way through and then it changed and I was like ok that's good

@@BookswithBrittany its a theory that has been alluded to for awhile now and SJM has kinda hinted at it - especially if you have read the bonus chapters from Feyre and Azriel. But the theory is that Elain turns evil and goes rogue. I think she will take down Tamlin and probs take Lucien with her or Azriel. Lucien will follow her in hopes that she will honour the mating bond and Az actually likes her. But if Azriel goes, he will have to be the one to take her down and will resent the night court and maybe leave. Also, on page 311 Elain randomly disappears and no one knows where she is - i think she was out looking for the 4th item that Nesta saw in her vision but it was blurry and we dont know what it is. Again, this is all a theory, but in the bonus chapter from Feyre's perspective , Rhys does say we don't really know Elain and she has never had to prove herself to us but she will surprise everyone. I am here for this though and want to see Elain finally do something interesting.

I really enjoy your channel. The new intro is amazing. Nesta was always my favourite character and with this book SJM only confirmed this for me. I also liked the way we saw the inner circle from other point of view. Showing us that not always they are so "perfect" and loving, as they did treat Nesta like trash, Rhys especially. Another interesting character I thought was Eris actually. I would like to learn more about him and what did indeed happened with Mor. As he did hint many times that there is more to the story what it's known actually. Also the chapter from Az's point of view got me a vibe that we all think Az to be a different person than he really is(always composed and well behaved). So I would also love to see his journey. As for Elain, I still don't care about her....Hehe

*spoiler talk* I remember absolutely hating Nesta in the original trilogy. I was two chapters into the book and had a moment where I thought “Oh sh*t she’s me”. It was a bit uncomfortable for a minute seeing her in this book and how close it was to looking into a mirror. Like when the Illyrians were watching her reject Cassian training her and she KNEW that she should get up and take his hand and she wanted to but she didn’t. I was so mad at her but I understood exactly where she was in that moment. Also when she had that big confrontation with Amren and Feyre and she said those absolutely nasty things to her just to hurt her only because she was so hurt I had to stop reading. Because I remember doing that exact same thing and it was so ugly to look at from a better mental place. This book broke my heart, there were so many moments where it just felt so raw and real and honest. I’m a character driven reader, so while I recognized the plot was not the strongest it was a five star for me too. Also I want Az and Gywn to be a thing so bad but I feel like I’m the only person who wants that? 😂 Overall I went in to this book not expecting too much and had no expectations but ended up loving it so much

@@BookswithBrittany yes, it felt so rushed to tie all the plots lines together that logic just was not there at times which I know SJM had done with ACOWAR. I would have rather not had the plot lines. Even though Nesta did get a bit of a redemption I would have loved to see her struggle morally with her new found power when she had to use the mask, raising the dead, and being seduced with that power. Just like she is seduced with music. The part where she came out of the water with such power was where even Cassian and Az bowed to her gave me chills.
Struggling with her darkness from pull of the troves would have been so interesting to see. From the title of the book I thought she would have branched out and created her own Court with her being the Supreme Queen of Death with Cassian and an army of bad ass women of valkyries. Nesta is a fascinating character for me because of her pull to that dark side. I could go on forever but I love the trope where the good turns bad or when morally Grey characters struggle with becoming dark.

I concur with the incredible way SJM portrayed Nesta's inner turmoil. And I definitely agree about the smut! Contrary to you, I love romances so I never say no to a little bit of smut, but there was just too much in this particular book.... It got so repetitive, I couldn't help roll my eyes. It's a bummer because the smut scenes in the other books were just right for me.
Totally agree that Rhys was acting like an overbearing bastard. If Rhys from ACOMAF and ACOWAR saw Rhys from ACOSF he would have a heart attack. Even if it can be explained by Feyre's pregnancy and with them being mates it was just too much. I also didn't like how the Inner Circle acted towards Nesta and this book made it obvious that they are not so perfect as we thought them to be.
I loved the friendship between the girls as well and the fact that Nesta made her own group of friends separate from the Inner Circle.

@@BookswithBrittany same ♥️♥️🔥🔥🔥......U are the one who understands and very correct that SJM gets too much negative views when the stuff she writes about hope and freedom and not yielding speaks volumes 😭💯

Books don't make me cry. I ha e never cried in a book until this one. I cried so many different times in this book. Like ugly bawling tears for over an hour after finishing. I want to hug nessta and go.live in her magic house and go kick some asshole men in the face.
Iseriously have all the exact same thoughts as you on everything you said. I didn't mind the plot either snd I knew it wasn't the main reason for this book.
I'm starting a retread right now. I can't stop thinking about it.

Do you need to read the original trilogy to read this one ?

I definitely would because the relationships won’t be as meaningful and you won’t know the history of the world and plot
