Death's quick rant in Spanish (¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?!?) roughly translates into English "WHY THE HELL DID I PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?", likely showing his disappointment in toying with Puss over the course of his journey instead of killing him when given the chance.

That makes a lot of sense since Death is a wolf in this movie's universe. I also wonder if part of it is because Death can't just claim a life without giving it a chance. He can claim lives at their moment of passing, but when it comes to taking one himself it has to be done in a straight up fight and if that life has cheated Death in some way. But the twist being is that the chance to win against Death isn't to beat him but rather to accept him.

He is lying in bed, too old to do much, can't really get up, and his multiple sons and daughters help him with everyday actions. This is a sunny morning. The birds are chirping. His family are laughing happily. Someone is singing a song, somewhere in the house. His wife is baking some cookies in the kitchen, and the scent is overwhelming the house. Outside, there are multiple voices, games being played, laughter and just everyday conversations. Suddenly, all sound turns silent. Everything just becomes quiet. Puss wonders: "What is going on?" And then he hears, a vaguely familiar whistle... The world becomes dark. Death appears in his room. "We meet again." Puss smiles. Scene cuts to black.

Seriously, they were hilarious to see and very relatable with how I reacted to the film and Lobo. It makes sense though, death is a real thing that especially adults can relate to because there's a time where everyone has thought about it. The Wolf/Lobo isn't just a fairy tale 'villain' with little chance to impact people and show in their everyday lives with the lesson they teach, because he's the personification of death, basically the grim reaper and the whole film Puss is intimidated by and terrified of him and dying, even having a panic attack and a bit of an existential crisis. It's relatable and real and can send chills down even mature audiences and not just children. That's how you know that he was a wonderfully written antagonist with an amazing lesson to be learned, that Death is natural despite how it can be scary and very impactful to everyone and everything and you can't fight against it. But that doesn't mean nothing matters, that means that everything matters even more *BECAUSE* you only live once, and you have to fight for it, you have to value and cherish those you have, and I truly admire this film for showcasing that lesson and panic attacks to all audiences and age groups in an easy to digest way, it's wonderful! It's a family film that truly has something for everyone in the family no matter their age

Little known detail, the animation of this film was inspired by Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. That's why there were moments where the colors became more extreme and for this film it worked perfectly. I geniune believe it's going to be a long time in cinema to bring an antagonist as insanely written as Death/Lobo, he was the definiton of bringing in the smoke and delivering it.

i love that even though they play with the viewers when the bears visit the cat lady's house for the first time, making us think its the wolf at first and then showing papa bear busting down the door, the switch isnt played for comedy at all.
they straight up show you how terrifying it would be to have an aggressive full grown male grizzly suddenly bust in your door. the way they animate him so much more realistically there and use actual grizzly growls and roars vs the bears' more cartoonish antics/looks during the rest of the film means they knew what they were doing with that specific shot of him. one of the only sequences in the movie that actually had my heart speed up

Ik I'm 8 months late to this video, but there are many hints as to Death's true nature/identity throughout the film that I along with many others missed the first time through:
    - You can spot Death in the crowd at one point when he's fighting the giant, he's just observing.
    - Death is in the corner of the taro card's with the symbols representing Puss's 8 lives/deaths.
    - When Puss is drinking his milk shots, there are 8 empty glasses, and he's sipping from his 9th, representing further how his last life isn't up yet.
    - One of his first line's in the movie is, "Everyone thinks they're going to be the one to defeat me...", hinting to the time old saying that "No one escapes Death".
    - His fighting stance is a reference to Anubis, God of the underworld in Ancient Egyptian Mythology.
    - The coins on the eyes is a reference to Charon, Ferryman of the Underworld in Ancient Greek Mythology.
I love these details so much

41:30 One thing to add on. I am a huge Bruce Lee fan and he has a lesson on death so to speak, and a way to triumph over it in a way.
"Like everyone else. You want to learn a way to win, but never accept a way to lose! To accept defeat! To learn to die is to be liberated from it! So when tomorrow comes, you must free your ambitious mind, and learn the art of dying!"
I've always understood the lesson as even death may defeat you, if you're blinded by ambition; you will never fight like this will cost you everything, because you're not prepared that perhaps 'today is the day I die.'. Puss only triumphed over death after realizing he's not above death, he's not above defeat; and so accepting potential defeat; he triumphed over death at least that day.
