Luckily I didn't have to carry a taser. No wonder my back is screwed up.

Another use for a USB flash drive: if you're at a crime scene, you're looking at some store CCTV and you known that the guy on morning shift at the store won't give a crap about preserving the footage so it will probably be over-written before a detective can get to it, it's useful to download the footage to a flash drive just in case. I would always carry at least 2 flashlights on top of a WML and a pen light in my IFAK, I personally like extended mags in the TACO pouch mounted to the vest and a spare standard proprietary mag on the belt. This way you're not giving up a 3rd mag and it's fairly unobtrusive and not a lot of extra weight on the belt at all, then relegate the 3rd TACO pouch to something like a flashlight. I will say, if your agency allows it to grab a Safariland Hardwire which is rifle rated soft armor with years of data behind it. When it comes to Safariland, always get the concealed carrier because you can stick the entire thing into any overt carrier and use it with any rifle plate. I have the same radio at my agency. I got tired of the large antenna getting in the way while on my vest. There are aftermarket shorty antennas that work with these radios very well. I haven't had any issues with it since I swapped them 6 months ago.
I gotta say, I wore a duty belt for a long time. And I wish there was a better option. Anyone who uses these should be very careful and look at either using suspension systems or if your Department allows, use a vest instead. We have nerves and blood vessels that run down the anterior part of the hip bone that the heavy duty belts compress and overtime can lead to damage to both the nerves and blood vessels. But the nerves damage is what is most painful. I personally have a constant burning sensation on my thigh that does not go away EVER! Its numb on the outside of my skin and blow torch burning on the inside. All from wearing a very heavy belt. Keep it as light as possible if you can. The wider the belt the better. But it still applies pressure where you don’t want it. Stay safe!
Definitely try out the n-ear 360 flexo earpiece. It’s GLORIOUS and the wire is Kevlar. The only issue I’ve ever had with one is while scanning on my radio, asshole firefighters who talk on the radio with the mic down their throat blew out the earpieces speaker. I have since removed the fire channel from scan on my portable and have had no more issues :) The first night I wore it I had to keep checking it was still in my ear because I thought it had fallen out. It was still there
For your radio I think Motorola makes a bluetooth speaker mic that you can plug into the radio that would solve the fraying, worn out wire issue you have. And would be one less thing to snag or get grabbed at work.
9:08 run the radio with the antenna just behind your armpit at your aprox 8 o’clock I’d also recommend looking into a flexible/foldable antenna if the antenna is removable
The mic has a velcro square attached to the back by 4 small screws and the furry part was the same color of our shirt and sewed to our shirt. Very secure but on and off easy.
I want to be a Police Officer and I would pick the Vest Carrier when I become a cop and the things that I would put on the Vest are Handcuffs Pepper Spray,Magazines,Flashlight and Asp on the Vest and I would put the Firearm,Taser,Radio and Tourniquet on the Belt Also I would do the Cord around the Back and over the Shoulder with the Mic on the Chest
Talking about police equipment and gear back when you first started or before would be interesting. I would love to see what police duty belts looked like back when maglites and revolvers were carried.
Though not directed towards me figured I would chime in. When I first started though it was after they stopped using revolvers the only duty belts authorized in most depts in my area were real leather, though if i remember correctly Uncle Mike's did have a nylon belt system but unless you worked in a special unit and even than I knew bike patrol guys that used leather for so long they weren't comfortable switching. I forget brands but one of the best I used had padding on the inside which made my back and legs happier. Also alot of depts mandated basket weave pattern and assume even though a lot have changed or allow other belts they still require that pattern. Also worth noting another big difference between now and than was besides SRT/SWAT bullet resistant vests were worn under uniform shirts vs many use outer carriers now which can still be warm but are alot cooler than the internal ones. Another thing I will note of things that really doesn't happen anymore my dad started in a small town late 70's he went to a selectman's meeting he was voted in given his badges, the next day(day 1) he was issued his 5 shot 38 with 2 spare speed loaders full leather belt, uniform pants, few polos as they were out of uniform shirts no body armor, also issued 2 wooden batons on riot sized and a smaller one usually called a billy club & on day 3 he started with an fto till academy class opened, thought process was get most of it out of way so when you finish academy you do min time then on your own. After 4yrs be transferred to a bigger city and he was mainly same stuff but also issued/given a blackjack which fit perfectly in the small pockets on the pants almost like it was meant to be there.
I want to be a Police Officer and I would pick the Vest Carrier when I become a cop and the things that I would put on the Vest are Handcuffs Pepper Spray,Magazines,Flashlight Asp and Radio on the Vest and I would put the Firearm,Taser,Tourniquet and Glove Pouch on the Belt
My duty belt consisted of a Glock model. 22 pistol carry 3 15 round magazines. 2 on the belt, one in the gun pepper spray on the right front side of your duty belt, a flashlight and a radio on your left hand side as well as a Baton. One pair of handcuffs front left 1 pair of handcuffs right rear. Are uniforms for b d u's and webgear we didn't have the leather belt.
I carry an APX6000, and our mics have the antenna on them. Most of our guys have removed the antenna from the radio itself with no change in coverage. Might be worth looking into at your agency.
Do the handcuffs come in pink? I love using pink handcuffs, easily identifiable as mine, easy to find if dropped and it creates conversation with the community I serve. I wear a breast cancer pin as well and initially had a pair of pink handcuffs that were Breast cancer awareness labeled. I have many female family members currently or that have defeated breast cancer and so do alot of people in the community I serve. It helps humanize me and helps me relate to those I serve in the community Side note- I have gotten a complaint from a guy I arrested who claimed me using pink handcuffs "belittled" him. My SGT laughed him off and so did the Chief when he filed a formal complaint.
I’m a Motorola dealer and I’d have your agency look into those mics. Motorola was sending new mics out for the ones that were fraying like that. Due to an issue in the plastic when they were made.
Tommy, just wanted to let you know that Motorola had an issue with the old revisions of those speaker mics. Hence the fraying of the cord. It's a common issue and they recently put out a new revision of mics that replaces the old plastic used on those. Look for part number PMMN4050AL. The "L" at the end of the part number means it uses the new plastic and is far stretchier and less susceptible to fraying and tearing.
Unless you are in an extreme rural area, they make way smaller antennas for your radio (we use same radio). I work in a city of 300,000 in a pretty large surrounding county with a sizable sheriff’s dept. The SO uses the same channels as us because we will often mutual aid with them and they are our coroners. I always give them crap because of their huge ass antennas which are I. Some cases poking them in the neck. You can get pretty remote in the county and still have just fine connection with a little guy In my experience. I’ve had to go into the county about as remote as you can get. At the very least, pick one up as they are pretty cheap, and test it out.
if your antenna is removable i would recomend a flex antenna and running it through one of the shoulder straps on your carrier if your department allows it. pro is no eye pokes con is that its a pain to charge it
Change the antenna. I got the little antenna from Amazon 5 years ago and have never experienced any difference even in very remote places. Ps. Thanks for all the videos and reviews. Stay safe man! Stubby Antenna for Motorola APX 764-870MHz Signal Band and 7-800 GPS (NAR6595A Short Antenna) by KCTIN
Being a fan of first person shooter games I know it’s important to have plenty of Ammo and during pvp I know about using gun safety in game to not point it ingame until I am ready to shoot hence I would be ready when the game begins I utilize gun safety when playing Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 and Wii
I’d keep the light if it’s comfortable. You already have 3 mags (if you count the one in the gun) and if you need the extra mag you’ll likely already have other officers with you (I’d think, not a police officer yet)
For your radio antenna maybe look into getting a non rigid antenna and running it in a grid fashion inside the back of your vest. This way there is no antenna in your way and you will most likely have a little bit better reception due to having a longer antenna that has more surface area. They sell antenna relocation kits on line.
Placing handcuffs on your back is a great way to get a back injury when slipping and falling on ice walking around a building on an alarm call at 2am. Ask me how I know.
Also I'd take a third mag every day and twice on sunday. A light is handy sure, but it will likely never save your life or someone else's when you run out of rounds in a gun fight. It only takes that one encounter
I'd honestly take the third mag over the backup light. If anything I'd get a smaller light to just go in the pocket of your pants that runs off of batteries so if for whatever reason the rechargeable light dies you could grab that back up and worse comes to worse you could keep spare batteries on you as well.
Coiled mic cords suck. The Motorola public safety mic with the squared head, flat face, volume switch, and stubby antenna with the ball on the end is the only way to go. Has a heavy straight cord.
i would say get the extra mag as i heard a situation where a trooper used over 100 rounds including all his 3 pistol mags and 1 already in and 2 duty rifle mags and had 1 bullet left at the end. so i would carry an extra mag encase it comes up where u have the same situation!
I mount my radio on my carrier, and use a stubby antenna. As long as Im not working rural i don't have any issues with dead zones, dunno if that helps any.
First thing: What holster are you carrying your PDP in?!?! I really admire your armor layering setup! Your idea of putting the 10x12 FRAS up in front of some issued IIA armor inside a uniform carrier is something I want to try out myself now. Regarding the spare light vs. 3rd mag question… I would carry whichever one is the lightest weight because ounces become pounds very easily. My opinion is I think a much smaller light such as a mini flashlight or pen task sized light would suffice as a backup light, but that’s just me. I use a cheap, adjustable beam aluminum Coast light with a hat clip on it and a rechargeable AA battery for a secondary light because it goes right into my pants pocket easily, weighs nothing, and I can clip it to my hat bill for hands free use. Primary light is a good ole Streamlight Stinger DS HL and I take the longer Ultrastinger with me tucked in the passenger seat. Streamlight TLR-1 HL on my G19 Gen 3 with a few doodads as a duty carry gun in a Safariland 7TS level I duty retention holster. I want to go back to a 6000 Series level II Safariland holster after trying the level I 7TS from them… isn’t secure enough by my standards. If money wasn’t a precious thing, I would go buy an Alien Gear Rapid Force level III holster.

Its numb on the outside of my skin and blow torch burning on the inside. All from wearing a very heavy belt. Keep it as light as possible if you can. The wider the belt the better. But it still applies pressure where you don’t want it. Stay safe!
Getting the redundant or heavier items off the belt and onto the vest helps. Moving mags, lights, and medical onto my vest was a huge help.
We wear all the same stuff at the post office 😊
for the antennae you can use an antennae relocator to move it to a less annoying position
It was still there
Coppers that wear ear pieces lmao😂
I second this. They’re expensive, but maybe the best piece of gear I’ve purchased. They’re magical.
Thank you for your and for everything you do to help keep the public safe I actually want to become a police officer with the GPD in Texas
For your radio I think Motorola makes a bluetooth speaker mic that you can plug into the radio that would solve the fraying, worn out wire issue you have. And would be one less thing to snag or get grabbed at work.
I want to say ty for ur service as a police officer. God bless u and ur family and all policemen/women
I want to be a Police Officer and I would pick the Vest Carrier when I become a cop and the things that I would put on the Vest are Handcuffs Pepper Spray,Magazines,Flashlight and Asp on the Vest and I would put the Firearm,Taser,Radio and Tourniquet on the Belt
Also I would do the Cord around the Back and over the Shoulder with the Mic on the Chest
It helps humanize me and helps me relate to those I serve in the community
Side note- I have gotten a complaint from a guy I arrested who claimed me using pink handcuffs "belittled" him. My SGT laughed him off and so did the Chief when he filed a formal complaint.
I’m a Motorola dealer and I’d have your agency look into those mics. Motorola was sending new mics out for the ones that were fraying like that. Due to an issue in the plastic when they were made.
3rd mag for sure instead of the backup light up front.
You can get short antennas for the apx series radios. I use them when I where my radio strap at work.
Can you do a video on the hiring process now of 2024
I just graduated from the police academy two weeks ago
Where is that handcuff pouch from?
Your duty pistol is awesome. 99% of officers I see all carry a Glock 17. I knew a local officer that carried a 1911 lol
if your antenna is removable i would recomend a flex antenna and running it through one of the shoulder straps on your carrier if your department allows it. pro is no eye pokes con is that its a pain to charge it
Good video brother i'm gonna start incorporating what you have on yours to my stuff
I have the S&W black handcuffs on my kit. Looks heaps cleaner on the black gear.
For your radio - they make shorter antennas
Being a fan of first person shooter games I know it’s important to have plenty of Ammo and during pvp I know about using gun safety in game to not point it ingame until I am ready to shoot hence I would be ready when the game begins I utilize gun safety when playing Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 and Wii
I love we still get issued basic level 2 armor instead of 3a standard
Being a cop is one thing being a cop in Chicago you need big balls stay safe out there
I’d keep the light if it’s comfortable. You already have 3 mags (if you count the one in the gun) and if you need the extra mag you’ll likely already have other officers with you (I’d think, not a police officer yet)
Always watch your 6 sir.God bless
For your radio antenna maybe look into getting a non rigid antenna and running it in a grid fashion inside the back of your vest. This way there is no antenna in your way and you will most likely have a little bit better reception due to having a longer antenna that has more surface area. They sell antenna relocation kits on line.
You should put one set of handcuffs in the back. It's wiser to carry one set in front and one set in back vs having both sets up front
Placing handcuffs on your back is a great way to get a back injury when slipping and falling on ice walking around a building on an alarm call at 2am. Ask me how I know.
Nice one, but honestly I prefer the first one you've made. Always you present good stuff🤜🤛
Hate the buckle. The original chrome that was lined up with the Gig line.
Great set up! I'd highly suggest picking up a Mic Loop to replace the hair tie. Its a game changer, far more reliable
Also I'd take a third mag every day and twice on sunday. A light is handy sure, but it will likely never save your life or someone else's when you run out of rounds in a gun fight. It only takes that one encounter
I'd honestly take the third mag over the backup light. If anything I'd get a smaller light to just go in the pocket of your pants that runs off of batteries so if for whatever reason the rechargeable light dies you could grab that back up and worse comes to worse you could keep spare batteries on you as well.
omg your back
That Guardian Angel is so cool
Apparently, it is “January” in Chicago Land currently. Impressive, as It is only October everywhere else.
Cool setup! Would be interesting to know what the total weight of your gear is.
Also, I hope your agency eventually moves on to a new Taser model!
From what we’ve seen in the video probably around 30 or 35 pounds.
3rd mag definitely
I wanted to know the same thing. I have a pdp and I’m looking for a good duty holster. I’m pretty sure it’s a dara holster
it is@@tizdizzley
@@tizdizzleyI know U.S duty gear website has holsters for the walther pdp for the 4.5 and 5inch I seen
@@tizdizzleyyou sure it’s a Dara? I just contacted their customer service and they said they can’t fit the Steiner optic in their holster because the hood is too low
@@caselawcop7229 no just a guess
You should do a series with a game warden and compare and contrast equipment. It would be really interesting!
Thx for the video, you rule Tommy!
Why do you have your baton behind your gun in the US? I’m a security guard in Sweden and standard here is that if you are right handed you have your baton left side front for easy access. We are not aloud (as far as i know) to have it along the leg even.
Need to get one of them fancy level 3 retention holsters so nobody can yank your gun out of your belt
I knew I remembered that gun brand James Bond used a Walther ppk, pp, p5 and p99
I absolutely hate that holster. Safariland is a holster standard for a reason.
Most agencies have rules on what they can carry and how it is placed. It is scary that many will not allow flashlights on their duty pistol.
Might want to carry a Stop the Bleed kit.
I'm surprised you don't use the MicLoop instead of hair ties for your microphone. Any reason why?
Yo that back up pistol pouch on vest is pretty money
I wear 8 pieces on my duty belt as an Auxiliary, Iam looking forward to our new Chief letting us wear Molly vests, thank God
Get rid of one of the torches on your vest and replace it with the baton. Taking more weight off your belt.
I wear the radio on the vest and use the city sized antenna, only a couple inches tall. Also x26p? We just swapped to taser 7 I thought we were behind lol
If you are interested in a different first aid kit that is I feel is better It's the same size as on your vest, but it's completely sealed and it has an inner pouch and outer pouch. It is made by a company out of Oklahoma called refuge medicand they are guaranteed for life. The one that you have would be called an s o b kit I have one and it's great all American made. Thanks
Can u do a video on the evolution of police uniforms from 1929-1997
On a side note here, that crown royal bag really threw me off. Imagine you’re bleeding out and the officer pulls out some booze 😂
I did not think police actually used that guardian angel device. I see ads for it all the time and thought it was gimmicky
Have you heard of the Bluetooth mics for the Motorola radios? There’s a little more to it but from what I’ve seen they work really well
